Want to keep rape fantasies off the radio? Don't tell Tyler, the Creator, unless you're ready to be called a "fucking whore dyke." That's the message he's broadcasting to the world lately. After an Australian woman named Talitha Stone criticized the rapper for rhyming about his hateful, necrophilia-inspired rape fantasies, Tyler and a slew of his fans verbally attacked and threatened her. Tyler then called her out during an (all-ages!) ... Read More

Rape culture has been all over the news lately due the horrific Steubenville rape case and subsequent trial. However, rape culture has far-reaching effects across age demographics and nationalities, as proven by Australian radio host John Laws. Laws, who Salon calls “Australia’s answer to Rush Limbaugh,” has been called out for a radio interview with a victim of sexual abuse this week in which he displayed a penchant for ... Read More

This might be the creepiest documentary ever.  An Australian documentary team has auctioned off the virginities of a man and a woman known as Alexander and Catarina. The bidding, which took place on a website called Virgins Wanted, began on September 17 and closed on October 24. Catarina had 15 bids ranging from $1 to the winning $780,000, from a Japanese man called “Natsu.” Alexander had 8 bids ranging from $1,000 to the ... Read More

In a debate earlier this week, Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard called out opposition leader Tony Abbott on his sexism and misogyny.  In what could be considered an important moment for Australian women and women all over the world, Gillard excellently declared her feelings about Abbott while standing up for women. The debate was held because of some recent remarks by Speaker of the House Peter Slipper, who sent texts demeaning ... Read More

Today (well, today in Australia), Australian Labor Senator Louise Pratt delivered one of the most eloquent arguments for marriage equality that I’ve ever seen. Senator Pratt, whose partner is transgender, gave an emotionally charged speech dissecting the logic of discriminatory marriage laws and their effect upon the nation—and truly, it doesn’t get much plainer than this: “I think it is one of the bitterest, ... She was possibly the most badass woman in the history of World War II. One of the most decorated WWII servicewomen, Nancy Wake led 7,000 maquisards - armed resistance fighters -  in battles against the Nazis. She rode a bicycle for more than 500 miles through several German checkpoints to replace codes her wireless operator had been forced to destroy in a raid. She even killed an SS sentry with her bare hands - a fatal karate chop - to ... Read More

According to an article in the Sydney Morning Herald: “During the trial the jury sent a note to the judge asking for more information about 'how exactly [the accused] took off her jeans’. 'I doubt those kind of jeans can be removed without any sort of collaboration,’ the note read.” That is, apparently, all it took for the jury to acquit. Even after testimony from the victim stating that she had no trouble getting ... Read More
