Blogger Amy Bursch frequently writes about female contraception and the politics surrounding it. Although she does a lot to promote female contraception, she also “…keeps an eye on what the other side is up to, crazy videos included.” And as far as crazy videos go, this one is pretty fricken crazy.
Pro-life organization “Come Unity in Truth” recently released a video titled “You Deserve to Know the Truth: ... Read More

In case you haven’t heard (after the uproar stirred by the Post this past week), a handful of New York City public schools have been testing out a program that dispenses oral and, more recently, injectable contraceptives, as well as the morning after pill or Plan B, to female students in need. Dubbed “CATCH” or Connecting Adolescents to Comprehensive Healthcare, the pilot program launched in January of 2011 and managed to fly under the ... Read More

Though he's one of the leading critics of conservative politicians, comedy news anchor Stephen Colbert is a devout Catholic--and he "loves his Church, warts and all."
This past Friday, Colbert met with the Archbishop of New York, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, to engage in a dialogue on “Humor, Joy, and the Spiritual Life" at Fordham University. Father James Martin, a Jesuit Catholic priest and author, moderated the conversation.

We know that hormonal birth control doesn’t protect against STDs, but now it turns out it might actually increase the risk of infection. Whoa.
According to the Guttmacher Institute, a group of researchers at the University of Washington accidentally discovered a link between hormonal contraceptives and an increased risk of contracting HIV during sex with an infected partner.
In conducting a trial testing the effectiveness of a drug in preventing the ... Read More

Today might mark the summer solstice, but for presumptive Republican Party nominee Mitt Romney, the date might borrow from a different holiday, Halloween, more than is usual for summertime campaign stops. That is to say that Romney should be planning for the predicted appearance of Pillamina, Planned Parenthood's costumed avenger, at his Troy, Michigan, fundraiser tonight. According to the Planned Parenthood blog, Pillamina is making her ‘triumphant ... Read More
It wasn’t enough for us to be pregnant all the time in Arizona. Now, we can’t get birth control in Kansas. Kansas Governor Sam Brownback just signed a bill into law that allows pharmacists and doctors to deny women contraception. Even more, the Heath Care Rights of Conscience Act allows them to do so on religious grounds, as long as they believe the birth control might “result in the terminating of a pregnancy.”
So, basically, any woman ... Read More

Being a woman in the United States looking at the legislation and political climate regarding women’s bodies, it’s fairly easy to lose faith. It would be an understatement to say that the government’s relationship with women is not pretty.
It’s refreshing, then, to see people in positions of power who actually think of women as more than baby incubators. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon stated last week to the Commission of Population and ... Read More

If there’s one thing I’ve ever learned from watching The Daily Show (or just being a decent human being with some form of common sense) is that you never, ever compare anything to Hitler, the Nazis, or the Holocaust. Ever. Unless you are, in fact, discussing Hitler, the Nazis, or the Holocaust, nothing should ever be compared to them. Never. It’s the number one way to lose credibility in a discussion, come off as an insensitive ass with little ... Read More

According to the state of Arizona, it does.
The state passed a bill on Thursday called the “Women’s Health and Safety Act,” a name so hilariously (and infuriatingly) inaccurate that I can’t begin to wonder how they got away with it. To go along with its all-kinds-of-wrong title are some all-kinds-of-wrong stipulations of the bill:Any sexual education must focus on and prioritize birth and adoption (sex ed is not mandatory in Arizona)

Before you read this, I need you to do something. Go to Rick Perry’s Facebook page and read the comments on the top photo on his wall. Go on, it’s right here. I’ll wait.
Yes, that’s correct: in an inspiring and hilarious show of solidarity, women have taken to Republican Governor Rick Perry’s Facebook page to describe (in full detail) their menstrual cycles, use of birth control, and general vajayjay status reports. Because he’s ... Read More
