July 23rd, 2011 was the day that we lost an extraordinary musical icon. We lost Amy Winehouse to alcohol poisoning, and it shook the music industry and the world to its core. Amy Winehouse was a breath of fresh air with her introductory album Frank in 2003, named of course after legend Frank Sinatra. But this was by no means the start of her career, playing guitar and writing music since she was 15, Amy’s love for music was life long, she even held a ... Read More
In 2007, Montana teacher Stacey Dean Rambold raped one of his students. The 14-year-old girl killed herself soon afterward. Rambold was tried and sentenced for his misdeeds—to 30 days in jail.  Montana Public Radio’s Edward O’Brien reported in the proceedings: "District Judge G. Todd Baugh of Billings (seen in first image) gave Stacey Rambold just 30 days in prison after suggesting the victim also shared responsibility for the 2007 ... Read More

Two weeks ago, La Guardia airport's terminal D was the equivalent of Apocalypse Now, with D standing for Doom, Delays and Deficient A/C. I was trying to fly back to my hometown for a mini-vacation to no avail, with Tropical Storm Arthur being all sassy-like, moving up the East Coast like he owned it and canceling flight after flight. My number of failed standby attempts was matched only by the number of overpriced dirty martinis I drank in the terminal bar ... Read More
Though our nation’s tradition of beauty pageants has been hotly debated as being both pro/anti woman, one Idaho beauty queen is using her platform to de-stigmatize the insulin pump for those affected with diabetes.  Sierra Sandison rocked her insulin pump throughout the Miss Idaho pageant, but her especially visual placement of the pump during the swimsuit competition made the image and her activism go viral.   After winning the Miss Idaho crown, ... Zayn Malik’s Instagram is no longer private and my heart has burst into a thousand pieces. I’m a 21-year-old woman. I am also the biggest Directioner in existence. And while I’m a Directioner across the board, I have a very VERY special place in my heart for Zayn Malik. I’ve been basically betrothed to Zayn Malik since I first witnessed him and his buddies in their “What Makes You Beautiful” music video in 2011. I fell ... Read More
The very first photo EVER uploaded to the web has just surfaced, and it’s just as good as we always hoped.  It’s a promotional shot for an all-female comedy group, Les Horribles Cernettes, based at the Nuclear Research center in Switzerland. Yeah, pretty random.  The photo was posted 22 years ago by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the man who created the World Wide Web, according to The Guardian. They continued to play shows until 2012, and were ... Read More
The GOP is apparently trying to figure out why, oh why, they aren’t getting more of the female vote!  It is strange that a group so devoted to saving women from their heathen desire for contraception could consistently rank behind their democratic competitors in the polls. Lucky for them, they’ve got North Carolina Congresswoman Renee Ellmers to advise them in their quest to win over female voters.  On Friday, July 18, Ellmers addressed a ... Read More
On June 24th, troubled inmate Jane Doe assaulted yet another staff member and destroyed property in the Connecticut adult women’s prison where she had been detained in solitary confinement for 78 days.  After the appeals of her lawyer and supporters, she was once again relocated, this time to a psychiatric center.  Then, when she was formally accused of assault, she was relocated again, this time to Connecticut’s Juvenile Training School in ... "Local teenage girl attends a seemingly innocent high school party with no conception that later that evening, she would be drugged and subsequently raped by monstrous, morally debauched high school boys, or scorned and mocked by social-media-ridden photographs commemorating the horrific event." A tale that has become so commonplace, that it seems almost as unremarkable as the headline “Local Family Searches for Runaway Dog.” But thanks to 16 year old ... Read More
