Religious or not, many worship the Christmas tree. Within religious literature and the most personal family traditions, the tree represents birth and death; every winter, we might erect it and toss it aside weeks later, only to have it reborn next year. Sometimes we immortalize real trees with precious ornaments and family photographs that will be framed forever.
For those of us who mourn our trees after they leave our homes is Gergo ... Read More
As I dug through the vintage photo archives of various families on Ebay and Pinterest circa the early to mid 20th century, I was increasingly confounded by the persistence of dolls. Almost every photograph of little girls on Christmas also features her most prized holiday gift: a doll. Of course one would hope that girls had a few more options; after all, boys are not offered toys that underscore the importance of physical beauty or childcare in the way ... Read More
From Potpourri of Pearls, the outstanding band that describes its music as "a perversion of 90s easy listening music,"comes this magical frenzy of Christmas cheer. With the help of some troll dolls, these artists have found a way to express the universal tensions that come with this time of year. And with introducing someone special to your “unusual” family. Watch the gleefully absurd and visually arresting “Hang Me” ... Read More
Grab your candy-cane latte and get ready for some Christmas cheer: the photographer Ed Wheeler has inserted himself into all your favorite works of art... as Santa Claus himself. The gleefully silly and surprisingly earnest self-portraits situate the Santa legend within beautifully anachronistic moments in the Italian Renaissance, French Impressionism, and even early Modernism. Wheeler and his bearded alter ego impersonate everyone from Venus to Jesus to ... Read More

Annette and Sue Amendola, sisters living in Brooklyn, New York, have been putting up a nativity scene in the lot next to their home for more than ten years. The real Christmas miracle, though, is the fantastic colony of feral cats that takes over the space annually. They curl up between the figurines and cuddle on the warm hay bale that serves as a manger and, duh, it's freakin' adorable.
According to the Amendola sisters, when they lay the baby Jesus in the ... Read More

I don't know about you, but I'm super enamored of Uzo Aduba and Danielle Brooks, better known as Crazy Eyes and Taystee, the characters they play on the Netflix series, Orange is the New Black. Aduba, who has a strong background in theater, is easily one of the best actors on the show, and it doesn't hurt that her character is incredibly heartbreaking and complex. Brooks plays the perceived comic relief, but as the plot develops, her character, Taystee, is ... Read More

Carlisle based artist and designer Lydia Leith has great sense of comic timing. Printing quirky, tounge-in-cheek memorabilia, such as her infamous Royal wedding sickbags, she has tapped into the nation's favourite passtime: a spot of establishment rib tickling, particularly on occassions of National pomp and ceremony.
These punk products have taken the form of Jubilee jelly moulds in the shape of the Queen’s head and a range of ... Read More
