Once again, women’s rights are under attack. The Medicaid Women’s Health Program, a health-care program for low-income women in Texas, is in danger of losing $35 million dollars of federal funding because Governor Rick Perry won't allow any of it to go to Planned Parenthood.
This program, which funds preventative care (including cancer screenings and contraception), currently serves 130,000 women by donating to many clinics in Texas--including ... Read More

On Monday night, comedian/actress Jane Lynch tried her hand at celebrity-interviewing when she filled in on Piers Morgan Tonight. Aside from making me wish she hosted a talk show on CNN instead of panders-to-women Piers Morgan, she interviewed Joan Rivers, and together (after Rivers admitted, of politicians, that she “hates them all”) they touched on certain issues in politics today. Specifically, the egregious amount of time politicians spend ... Read More

2012 has been a tough year so far for women’s rights, and it’s only March. With legislation cropping up across the nation that seeks to limit our access to birth control and to put hurdle after hurdle between a woman and a legal abortion, it seems only fair that female legislators are turning the tables. Democrat Nina Turner of the Ohio State Senate has introduced Senate Bill 307, which aims to regulate men’s access to erectile dysfunction drugs ... Read More

Yesterday, the Senate narrowly avoided another political attack on women's health when they voted 51 to 48 against the Blunt Amendment. Even though Republicans tried to assure everyone that this bill wasn't actually contributing to their war on women, (just their war on citizens who believe in the separation between church and state), it would have allowed employers to refuse to cover any health care service for their employees, and only have to cite "moral ... At this point, dealing with the shit that spews from Rush Limbaugh’s mouth becomes physically exhausting. I don’t know how he manages to keep topping himself, but he’s done it again – this time in the form of a horribly misogynistic (and just plain creepy) radio rant against Georgetown Law School student Sandra Fluke.
Fluke testified during an unofficial hearing headed by Nancy Pelosi, giving a personal account about the health ... Read More

The federal government has until tomorrow, December 7th, to decide whether it'll allow the sales of Plan B One-Step emergency contraceptive directly on store shelves. Teva Pharmaceuticals, the manufacturer of the pill, petitioned the FDA to make it available on store shelves alongside condoms and other contraceptives. While technically Plan B is already an over-the-counter product for women 17 and older, it's still sold only at pharmacies and health clinics. ... Read More
