“Yes means yes” will soon be the rule of thumb on California college campuses, thanks to California Senate Bill 967, which passed in the state senate Thursday. SB-967 mandates that California colleges adopt “an affirmative consent standard in the determination of whether consent was given by both parties to sexual activity.” The bill defines affirmative consent as “affirmative, conscious, and voluntary agreement to engage in sexual ... Miranda July is at it again. The director, artist, writer, and overall creative powerhouse just launched a new messaging service in collaboration with Miu Miu, and it's awesome—though anything involving both Miranda and Miuccia Prada is enough to turn my eyes into giant cartoon hearts.
The app, titled Somebody, was created to explore the chaotic opposite of the efficient and concise communication we enjoy today. As July told AnOther, Somebody is the ... Read More

The Modern Man is the Internet’s latest mangled bits of thirsty, quasi-Men’s Right Activist dating advice coming from Dan Bacon, a self-appointed “dating and relationship expert.” Needless to say, Bacon is only concerned with heterosexual, cisgender dudes. Obviously.
Promising men the ultimate advice for scoring a gal, Bacon flaunts his “expertise” with women via a cheekily [seemingly photoshopped] image of a ... Read More

New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is accomplished, hard-working, and handles the idiocy she faces constantly with a grace that is unparalleled. She’s done so much to try and better our nation, and that is why we should care about her. Why, then, is “weight loss” the first suggestion that comes up when you type her name into Google? In an excerpt from her upcoming memoir, Gillibrand goes into detail about the kind of sexist nonsense she ... Read More

I love this. The other day, Shea Strauss, a writer for Playboy, shared a flowchart she created on the magazine’s website—a handy guide to find out whether or not you should catcall a woman.
Turns out, the only time catcalling is okay is if A) she is literally a cat or B) you know her and have “both consensually agreed to shout sexually suggestive comments to each other in public.” AMEN.
Having women on the writing staff at ... Read More

In June, Hobby Lobby became the world’s most infamous craft store after the Supreme Court ruled that the company could deny employees' birth control based on religious objections. Of course, this landmark decision has open up a stream of terrible implications regarding birth control rights for other employees across America, potentially limiting access for those who cannot afford expensive, out-of-pocket prescriptions. This past weekend, the Obama ... Read More

It’s really frustrating that it sometimes takes super depressing PSAs to make us address our unsafe behavior and do something about it, but you should watch this one, even though it will make you cry your eyeballs out.DON’T TEXT AND DRIVE BUSTETTES! Not that I’m accusing anyone of doing it, but I know firsthand that if you live in an area where you have to drive, you will most likely text and drive in your lifetime, and we're asking you ... Working out shouldn’t have to feel like a chore. I am a firm believer that if you’re not getting an emotional boost from exercising, or if it leaves you feeling tired and blah rather than proud and pumped, you’re doing something wrong. As a kid, I could spend hours (yes, hours) in the ocean or running around with my friends in the school yard. I was always on. Now that I’m older, I have to make a conscious effort to get a decent amount ... Read More

Meow! It’s Friday! It’s been a long week, and you deserve something for all the hard work you’ve done. You’re awesome. And because you're so awesome, what better reward than a bunch of photos of cats standing on their hind legs? Believe me, you don’t know how important these are. These photos sure do raise a lot of questions. For example, why are they standing up?? That's actually the only question, the answer to ... Read More
