The station attendant at the Broadway/Lafayette subway stop is the cutest lady ever (totally blowing up her spot!). The whiteboard in her cubicle displays pertinent train information, but I noticed recently that she also writes inspiring messages and aphorisms that make even a tired, black-hearted, cranky commuting jerkface like me smile. As a kid, I never really understood the appeal of paper dolls. I needed a toy that could survive my rough and tumble antics at playtime, and the wispy slips of people-paper just couldn't keep up. In my tiny yet destructive hands, paper dolls easily (and often) became confetti.

Ugh, all the shop windows are reminding me that Valentine's day is coming up soon. It's the stupidest holiday ever except for the fact that it provides the perfect excuse to order a heart-shaped pizza for one and buy yourself a present.
