While Wonder Woman's invisible plane isn't the most plausible concept, two Swedish women thought that creating an invisible bike helmet was a possibility, despite what naysayers told them. The pair wanted to design head protectors that weren't as bulky as regular helmets, which they likened to "mushroom caps." The result of seven years of research and crash tests is the Hövdin, which looks akin to a fashionable scarf before it inflates. That's right: ... Read More
I’m a big vintage photo collector, so I was pretty jazzed when I found a whole basket of late 1930s photos hidden away at a local antique store. This particular bunch of images all appear to be from the same group of friends and family--snapshots from summers together between 1936 through 1938. While the hot days keep getting hotter, these photos are a perfect source of inspiration on how to look cute and still stay cool. They’re also an adorable glimpse into ... Read More

Just because you’re on the beach, that doesn’t mean you need to dress like a bum. Super comfy and chic, caftans are not only the perfect bathing suit cover, but they can also be easily dressed up for a night on the town.
Making your own custom caftan is a breeze. Get a breathable, cotton fabric that’s 60" wide, and measure from your shoulder down to your desired caftan length; double this measurement, adding 1/2" for the hem. Cut the ... Read More
It's finally hot enough to hit the beaches, and it's got me dreaming about the old-timey Coney Island-- when girls' bathing suits looked like complicated costumes and the rides were terribly unsafe, but terribly fun. Maybe I'm just idealizing things, but the old Coney Island is something extra special that now only exists in history. I love the idea of beaches flooded with straw boater hats, bathing costumes, swimming caps, rosy cheeks, sheer Edwardian dresses, ... Read More

I'll buy any piece of clothing—socks, underwear, dress, t-shirt—if there are stripes on it. My fondness for stripes probably has something to do with my love for repetition; I find it to be very calming. Also, I think stripes make people look cool, and I like to think that my coolness (on a scale of 1=low to 10=high) goes from a 1 to a 3 when I wear stripes. Pretty impressive.
Here's a small roundup of striped dresses that I've got my eyes on.

The Colour of Beauty is a short documentary that follows aspiring model, Renee Thompson, as she attempts to take on New York City's fashion industry. The video uncovers that the fashion industry still lacks true diversity. Designers and casting agents still believe that black women won't sell magazines, products or clothing.
From casting calls where black models are told not to even bother to the horrendous scrutinization of their slightly ... Read More

Here at BUST, we are well aware that there is no feminist dress code. But others aren't so savvy on the idea that following fashion doesn't mean you are disloyal to feminist ideals. Just yesterday a headline from the UK's Independent read 'You can be beautiful and still be a feminist.' As if that is a profound statement! We figured that one out long ago.
The article was spurred after Cambridge undergrads stripped down to their skivvies for a student magazine, ... Read More
It's no secret that Project Runway hasn't been good for a while -- the designers are boring, there's zero drama since they kicked off Johnny Meth Addict, and snarky fashion cops Nina and Michael are usually MIA. But perhaps most importantly, the outfits themselves are a big yawn -- have you seen any winning designs recently that you couldn't go buy at your local Banana Republic? So if you're going through kickass fashion withdrawal like myself, check out this ... Read More
