Corsets: only 10 years ago, the term conjured up images of uncomfortable Victorian women squeezed into difficult contraptions. But it’s 2012, and that means that corsets are now a fun and sexy option for any lady’s lingerie wardrobe. They’re everywhere, from popular webstores to specialty lingerie boutiques and even common mall shops. And apparently a lot of women are taking advantage of the corset craze. eBay has seen a 185% increase in corset ... Read More

Super comfy and chic, caftans are not only the perfect bathing suit cover, but they can also be easily dressed up for a night on the town.  Making your own custom caftan is a breeze. Get a breathable, cotton fabric that’s 60" wide, and measure from your shoulder down to your desired caftan length; double this measurement, adding 1/2" for the hem. Cut the ... Read More
At the age of 17, Katie Halchishick entered the world of plus-size modeling. Though the industry approved of the weight she gained during her first year of college (the notorious “freshman 20”), Halchishick made a pledge to herself to eat healthier, and, in turn, lost a total of 50 pounds—along with a ton of clients. The formerly plus-size model's new size put her into a category that virtually didn't exist in the modeling industry--sizes 6, 8, ... Read More

Recently, a few friends and I decided to create a short film. We wanted it to be colorful, fun, and sugary sweet. We filmed on a 1960's Super 8 and I made sure to include all of my favorite things such as cupcakes, picnics, polaroids, and macaroons. There's even a mini wardrobe montage and a twee pop tune by Afternoon Naps!  Initially the project was just for fun, but I'm excited to announce that this Thursday, our short film, 'fetti, will be featured as part ...    The relationship between women and fashion is complicated, or at the very least, layered. We all need to buy clothes. That one’s obvious, or like the first layer. The second level of this cake (I’ve made it a cake) is the clothes that we buy reflect how we are judged. Teen girls all over the internet are counseling each on how to dress like a certain persona (i.e. Wear hemp bracelets if you want to be a surfer). At the top of our cake ... Read More
It's finally hot enough to hit the beaches, and it's got me dreaming about the old-timey Coney Island-- when girls' bathing suits looked like complicated costumes and the rides were terribly unsafe, but terribly fun. Maybe I'm just idealizing things, but the old Coney Island is something extra special that now only exists in history. I love the idea of beaches flooded with straw boater hats, bathing costumes, swimming caps, rosy cheeks, sheer Edwardian dresses, ... Read More
Have you ever thought about what future civilizations (or alien invaders) will think of us when they inevitably discover the remnants of our society? Yeah me neither. But while we’re on the topic, I think most of us would agree that if our new alien overlords happen to flip through the pages of today's glossy fashion magazines, they may very well paint a picture of us that is a lot skinnier, a little whiter, and a lot more pore-less than most of us actually ...
