I might be one of the few millennials still paying for cable instead of Hulu-ing all my faves, but if you are a part of my so yesterday cable club, you might have also noticed that smart girls seem to be appearing in commercials with increasing frequency. I noticed this trend after seeing this commercial for Coffee-mate creamer. This little lady shames a grown-ass man.

You have probably been told in the last few days to stop using the word "bossy" as a part of the Ban Bossy campaign, the product of a partnership between Lean In and Girl Scouts of America, and headed by none other than our not-so-favorite but oh-so-prominent mainstream feminist and Facebook COO, Sheryl Sandberg.
You do you Sandberg, but we at BUST are going to keep on keeping on with our bossy selves because we like our bossy just fine, thank you. We believe ... Read More

Our prayers must have been answered because last night during the most boring Super Bowl of a lifetime, empowered women and girls everywhere got some much needed relief from a myriad of sexually objectifying Super Bowl commercials. RETWEET if the sole reason you are watching the #SuperBowl is so you can tweet about sexist commercials. #feminism #Portlandia #NotBuyingIt

I was a little girl when TLC came on the scene, and I wish someone had introduced my childhood self to the unbelievable R&B girl band. Sadly, I didn’t discover them until last year (while watching The Real Housewives of Atlanta, I’m embarrassed to admit). Band members Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, and Kandi Buruss are so talented; together, they create saucy, ... Read More

Yemen’s recent revolution posed many problems for the citizens of the country for many reasons, but one big problem was electricity. On some days, communities had only an hour's worth! In this darkness, people had to continue with regular life - and for some that meant studying for exams. A group of 16-year-old girls from Sanaa decided to take matters into their own hands, and find new ways to live in the light.
This group of young women joined an ... Read More

Clear your freezer: Girl Scout cookie season is nearly upon us. And you’ll need to strengthen your resolve this year, because Scouts aren’t just adorably shilling their addictive treats on a sidewalk near you: they’re also using social media to network with potential customers.
Girl Scouts are now using texts, emails, Facebook, and even mobile credit card readers to widen their customer base—and their strategy is working! Despite the ... Read More

The big day has arrived, and I think this year we need it more than ever. In light of the recent anti-woman three ring circus that is our political system, it's important that we celebrate all the wonderful things about being female (in all its glorious shapes and forms.)Check out this hilarious statement on slut-shaming through the art of .gifs over at Ann Friedman's blog. Gifs are my absolute favorite way to express myself on the Internet. Thanks, ... Read More

Everyone and their mothers have an opinion, it seems, on Lana Del Rey. We here at BUST have blogged about her twice in the last month alone. (That’s actually a small number if you consider how many times her name has come up in conversation around the office.) The controversy over her is passionate, fascinating—and completely unnecessary. When I hear people getting up in arms about her sex appeal, her body modifications (lip injections, anyone?), or ... Read More
