When you break up with someone, how does it make you feel? What do you do to help yourself cope? In the music video for her song “Dresser Drawer,” singer sami.the.great deals with this situation in a gentle, honest, and even somewhat funny way. Her voice is lovely, the concept for the video is creative, and the song? Catchy! (I especially love all the unusual sounds she uses in the synth-y percussive beat that runs throughout the track.) But enough ... Read More
Every teacher I’ve had since I was about ten years old has been giving me the plagiarism speech. It’s ingrained in my brain. Never steal someone’s words without giving them credit. In print the rules seem clear, but what if it’s something like a dance move? It seems like copyright gets a little more difficult to define. When it was brought to everyone’s attention that ... Rockabilly sweetheart Nikki Lane pays homage to old school country in a new video for her song, "Gone, Gone, Gone." The track is off her recently-released EP of the same name, which was co-written and produced by Lewis Pesacov of Fool’s Gold. A little Loretta Lynn and a little Holly Golightly, Nikki brings a cool, modern edge to classic country without the sugary popness of today's country (step aside, Taylor Swift). Nikki's debut LP, Walk of Shame, is set ... Read More
Drew Barrymore in the director's chair, Maeby Fünke as a gang member, and an epic romance between young, troubled lovers. By way of movie magic, all of this was made a reality in Best Coast's new music video for their hit song, "Our Deal." Though just four minutes long, the ultra-mini film is packed with action, tears, forbidden love, and hair worth pushing your lover off a building for. The video keeps the romantic, dreamy tones of Best Coast's song, but ... Read More
In our June/July Music issue, we interviewed TV On The Radio's Tunde Adebimpe, who talked about the bands newly released album, "Nine Types of Light". They released the short film/ music video for their newest single "You" yesterday.  Check out Tunde Adebimpe getting dressed up in Prince gear, and grandly gesturing on jetties in what looks like Sheepshead Bay. Also check out the bands "reunion" where they discuss LARPing and "Cool Snoopy- you know the one ... Read More
GIRLS RUN THE WORLD! Beyonce, you are a beautiful Queen and I love watching you break it down in post apocalyptic dance offs, chanting girl power lyrics over Major Lazer's "Pon De Floor". Beyonce, what more can I say? You're on a rearing black stallion in an all white suit. You're dancing in heels on sand. (A feat that I am sure is impossible, further convincing me that you are not in fact human, but some kind of amazonian deity of my dreams.)I love the way the ... Read More

Gaga Almighty

BY Eileen Milman in Music Stuff |

The Music Video for Lady Gaga's new single has leaked! Thank God for the internet. This song, is like some bizarre fan-fiction that Stefani Germanotta wrote while she was in her bible studies class at Catholic School. It's real weird.  In the video Gaga plays Mary Magdalene, one of Jesus's homegirls. Now, I have no religious upbringing (thank you, overeducated, liberal parents!) but I learned about this repentant prostitute in an Art History ... Read More
We all know that Peaches likes to get down and dirty, but in this music video "Mud" she's literally getting drenched in dirty water, mud and other crazy gross stuff. Most of the music video features Peaches with mud flying at her face, and when Peaches isn't being barraged by debris, muddy dancers booty shake to the synth heavy beat. Apparently the mud they used for the video, was actually fertilizer. Peaches tells Spinner.com about her collaboration with ... Read More

Look for more MNDR in our June/July ... Read More
