According to an article in the Sydney Morning Herald: “During the trial the jury sent a note to the judge asking for more information about 'how exactly [the accused] took off her jeans’. 'I doubt those kind of jeans can be removed without any sort of collaboration,’ the note read.” That is, apparently, all it took for the jury to acquit. Even after testimony from the victim stating that she had no trouble getting her jeans off herself, the ... Read More

The UN has launched a campaign to raise awareness about and prevent rape all around the globe. The campaign, called Stop Rape Now, focuses on rape as a part of conflicts. The website, StopRapeNow.org, is filled with news and ways to get involved. It also features a novel idea: you can, with your webcam, take a picture of yourself holding your arms in front of you in the shape of an X, which is then uploaded and added to a map to show the supporters of the ... Monday, for the first time in NYC, federal prosecutors utilized the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act to convict two men with blocking the entrance of a Planned Parenthood in Manhattan.
Both men will be sentenced June 10th. They will face a maximum of six months and a maximum $10,000 fine.
In light of the circus in Oklahoma, it's nice to know that some government folks are working to make access to abortions easier.

The most shocking of the bills would require doctors performing ultrasounds on women seeking abortions to use vaginal probes if the picture would be clearer—and then for the doctor to describe the image in detail to the patient.
According to the Huffington Post, “The other abortion measures would ... Read More

Something about the Material Girl’s spirit really translated in the show, making for a female-empowering hour of song and dance. It managed to, in its fun way, touch on some serious societal issues, including the way (high school aged) men treat women.
One of my favorite things about the ... Read More
