Planned Parenthood has had its fair share of criticism this year, with conservative pundits and politicians alike throwing stones. Last night, however, a critic of the organization took it a step further and threw a bomb.
A homemade explosive device was set off at a Planned Parenthood location in Grand Chute, Wisconsin around 7:30 p.m. Sunday night. No one was injured, and the facility only sustained minimal damage to an exam room. As of now, no ... Read More

Before you read this, I need you to do something. Go to Rick Perry’s Facebook page and read the comments on the top photo on his wall. Go on, it’s right here. I’ll wait.
Yes, that’s correct: in an inspiring and hilarious show of solidarity, women have taken to Republican Governor Rick Perry’s Facebook page to describe (in full detail) their menstrual cycles, use of birth control, and general vajayjay status reports. Because he’s ... Read More

Once again, women’s rights are under attack. The Medicaid Women’s Health Program, a health-care program for low-income women in Texas, is in danger of losing $35 million dollars of federal funding because Governor Rick Perry won't allow any of it to go to Planned Parenthood.
This program, which funds preventative care (including cancer screenings and contraception), currently serves 130,000 women by donating to many clinics in Texas--including ... Read More

Late last month, 800 battleground state voters were asked how they felt about Congress's war on women, and the results are in: they're pissed off!
Among those polled in 8 battleground states, a near consensus exists that women should have access to birth control, that insurers should cover it, and that the decision to use birth control is a private one. Kind of a no brainer, considering nearly every woman will use some form of contraceptive in her ... Read More

On the website for Planned Parenthood's new action fund, the answer to "Why We're Watching" reads: "This past year, we have been witnessing the most aggressive legislative attacks on women’s health and rights in a generation." Year. It's been a year. I remember blogging about the beginnings of the right-wing attack on Planned Parenthood a year ago. I remember going to the rally that was the first response to those attacks a year ago. It seemed like ... Read More

You know the kind of apology where the person is like, "Sorry you're so sensitive you got mad at me?" Those are the worst kind!
Nancy Brinker, CEO of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, released a statement apologizing for her foundation's controversial decision earlier this week to end its long-standing partnership with Planned Parenthood. Sounds like they're walking it back on this one, which is the best possible news for women everywhere.

Today is a victorious day for the supporters of Planned Parenthood. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has put into effect the new guidelines requiring health insurance plans beginning on or after August 1, 2012 to cover birth control, among other preventive services. The list of services that will now be covered includes free screenings for conditions such as gestational diabetes and the human papillomavirus (HPV), support for breastfeeding ... Read More
