A vicious five-member gang rape was apparently filmed by the perpetrators in Nigeria and Change.org is seeking petition signers to to help bring justice to the unidentified female victim. Slut Walk NYC is a grassroots mission doing its part to end sexual and domestic violence to women all around the globe. The movement grew from a comment by a police officer who told women the best way to protect themselves against sexual violence would be to stop dressing like sluts. Did you know that up until recently there was a five year statute of limitations on a rapist in New York State? Until 2006 charges of rape had to be reported within five years or there could be no prosecution. This was one of the many facts that I learned about rape at a recent Pace University lecture.
