The number one reason I wish I lived in NYC, from this past weekend, was SlutWalk NYC! I really wish I could have made it. I even had a poster I wanted to make, inspired by (stolen from) another sign I'd seen online: "When a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist and a round thing in your face YOU TREAT HER WITH RESPECT!" Slut Walk NYC is a grassroots mission doing its part to end sexual and domestic violence to women all around the globe. The movement grew from a comment by a police officer who told women the best way to protect themselves against sexual violence would be to stop dressing like sluts. On January 24th ,2011 at an information on campus safety at York University, a Toronto police officer put his foot in his mouth. He advised that "women should avoid dressing likes sluts in order not to be victimized."
