A small grove of mango trees lies at the edge of the village of Katra, offering shelter from the harsh sun of the north Indian plains. For for two young girls, found repeatedly raped and hanged with their own headscarves in the early morning hours of May 30th, that sanctuary offered only isolation for their brutal assault.

Elliot Rodger, 22, killed seven people - including himself - this past Friday, during a drive-by shooting (in addition to killing his roommates while they were in their apartment). It all took place in Isla Vista, Calif.; a nearby neighborhood of UC Santa Barbara. Most victims were students of the university.
Now, in the wake of this tragedy, it is important to ask why this happened.

The English branch of international clothing store River Island recently came under fire for selling this shockingly inappropriate item. Consumers were outraged when they saw the gag pop up on the brand’s website; among those offended was actor Jenny Bede, who promptly shared her ... Read More

It grieved us to discover, that 16-year-old high school junior, Maren Sanchez, was fatally stabbed in Milford, Connecticut this morning, because she simply exercised her human right to say "no."
Just hours before prom night, Maren was stabbed by an angered ex-boyfriend, after she declined to go to the prom with him. The police reports are abhorrent; witnesses said that the suspect shoved Maren down the stairs, attempted to choke her, and then ... Read More
The answer to the question “If women knew how to behave, there would be less rape: agree or disagree?” seems painfully obvious, but in a world dominated in part by victim-blaming and rampant rape culture, a tragic number or global citizens are inclined to select “agree.” A recent survey by the Institute of Applied Economic Research in Brazil revealed that 58.5% percent of those interviewed (both male and female) agreed with the ... In a campaign to stop violence against women, a new PSA is placing the onus on men to step up and step in when they see lines being crossed by their peers.
Titled "Be That Guy," the 30-second animation was first played at a NASCAR race in mid-November. It shows a race, one of our great American pastimes, where a lot of people are crammed together in a loud public arena to cheer as slightly larger Hot Wheels careen around in circles (growing up in the land of ... Oh hell to the naw! These men went there, so the backlash they are about to receive will not be pretty.
Maybe not so surprisingly, comic creators Todd McFarlane (Spawn), Mark Millar (Kick-Ass) and Gerry Conway (The Punisher) have unabashedly inferred that it doesn’t matter how they portray women in their comic creations, because comic books are not for women, anyway.
Right. Because if boys and men enjoy reading unadulterated rape scenes, that’s ... Read More
