Avocado is super high in fat. So high in fat, that restaurants like to exclude it from the nutritional info because the caloric and fat content is just that high. But the fat content in avocados is strictly monosaturated fat - which turbo charges your bodies ability to absorb vitamins and boosts your metabolism. A small avocado averages 45 grams of fat. But, don't let this number deter you from consuming this super healthy food. Instead, try to eat an ... Read More

I’m a wanna-be foodie; absolutely love reading food blogs and cookbooks. But as a college student I never really have the time nor the ingredients to make much of anything. That and I have a horrible habit of making things and never eating them myself. I just feed them to everyone else.So I mostly just content myself with drooling over the scrumptious food photos and recipes. Here are some of my favorite foodie blogs that are just chock full of pictures and ... Read More

Well, there's no pool. But there are the Murder City Devils, who I can't be more happy to see playing a FREE show after five years of not touring at all (they broke this back in Feb). And there's also tons of lawn chilling, dodge ball and swarms of sweaty, happy people. And its free, so you don't have much of an excuse for not going if you happen to be in New York.
East River State Park, 90 Kent Ave at North 9th St, Williamsburg, Brooklyn (thepoolparties.com). Sun ... Read More

Made in Dagenham, the new film coming out this fall starring Sally Hawkins, Bob Hoskins and Miranda Richardson is so amazingly feminizle, I guarantee you are going to love it. Based on a true story about a group of female factory workers in England in 1968 who fight for equal pay, it's full of inspiring moments, not to mention death defying bouffants and to-die-for outfits. Look for coverage from us in the fall, and check out the trailer here:

The New York Times has a blog post up today about how exercise science has ignored women. The piece cites New Zealand researcher Dr. David Rowlands, who did a study on male cyclists in 2008 that found they exhibited a 4% performance gain if they ate protein and carbs after workouts, as opposed to just carbs. He theorized that the protein repair muscle damage and aided in processing the carbs as fuel. The study aligned with other similar studies and the word went ... Read More

I freaking love Twitter. I love that you can randomly type something on your phone and send it out into the ether and strangers read it. (Kind of like how I used to feel when I did a zine! But without a post office or stapling things!) I love that you can keep up with your friends, various pop cultural and political figures, and also keep an eye on trending topics to get a feel for what the online world is chitchatting about. But I especially love it because it ... Read More

Last night was the kick off party for the NYC Food Film Festival, and boy was I in heaven. (Don't I look happy?) The "Shuck 'n Suck" event took place at the Seaport and guests were treated to an endless array of raw oysters (6500 to be precise) , broiled oysters (w bacon) and even oysters w grits– along with the prerequisite beer, wine and specialty cocktails. The idea of the festival is to pair several short movies about the particular food while the ... Read More

Tonight debuts the fourth annual New York City Food Film Festival. The NYC Food Film Fest is the delicious brainchild of documentary filmmaker George Motz, director of the documentary Hamburger America. Motz wanted us to be able to explore a multi-dimensional method of tasting food - by learning about it at the same time! So what exactly is this food and film fest? The best answer is that its an exploration of an overall sensory experience of food. You watch a ... Read More
