Earlier this month, President Obama signed an Executive Order, creating the White House Council on Women and Girls. The Council was created 'to provide a coordinated federal response to the challenges confronted by women and girls, and to ensure that all Cabinet and Cabinet-level agencies consider how their policies and programs impact women and families, 'according to the press release from the Office of the Press Secretary of the White House. What's great ... The warm weather is a' comin'-- time for me to bust out my rad bicycle! I can only bring myself to ride it to the grocery store and back during the winter, when my neighborhood is basically a frozen tundra, but in the summer I'm all bike all the time. And I know I'm not alone: thanks to the green movement and cities becoming more bicycle friendly by the minute (for starters, New York is making good on its promise to add 200 miles of bike lanes to the city in ... Every once in a while there is a person that makes me wonder if they are seriously just waking up in the morning a thinking to themselves 'hmmmm, how can i best aggravate volatile situations, wreak havoc on the world and generally behave like a massive ass?' I'm not talking about those people who consider it some sort of aristotelian duty to annoy all they come across (ahem, Dad). I'm talking about a person who seems to want to murder basic decency. For me, today, ... Read More
The beloved, cherished children's book Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak, originally published in the 60s, is being adapted into a movie of the same title. We all remember the classic because we were just like Max as a child; being sent to bed with no supper for just being a kid and creating a world to escape to. Without eating, our mind can create some pretty vivid stuff, as Max did with by creating the Wild Things and their world. Check the trailer to ... Read More

Separated at Birth?

I saw the new Monsters v. Aliens this weekend and thought it was pretty amazing. Not just for kids, I swear! And it's in 3D. Is it just me, or does Gallaxhar (from Monsters vs. Aliens) remind you of Mojo Jo Jo (Powerpuff Girls)? I've always loved outrageously sinister villians, and they did a fun job with the squid like Gallaxhar. Even tho he is a squid, he has a monkey face, just like MJJ, and an extremely large brain. I actually loved all the characters, the ... Read More
OK young 'uns, listen up. A long, long, time ago, in a dark age before Twitter, there was an era called the '90s that fostered a kind of weird ass music called acid house, and the best acid house band was the KLF . They produced one of my favorite party songs of that decade, ' Justified and Ancient,' a totally insane club banger that featured none other than country music legend Tammy Wynette . Despite my love of this song, however, the absolutely INSANE video they ... Read More
While I bob-and-weave on the regular in New York City foot traffic, there are some fools I'd like to knock around physically (hell-o, slow-ass who made everyone miss the train!) I got to test the new Don King Boxing game for Nintendo Wii and immediately put it on my bday wishlist after, because I know it works. Instead of doing the 'scream into your pillow to get your anger out' bit (I mean, really, who does that!?), I was really able to work some steam off via ... Read More
We heart the art of former BUST boy du jour Marcel Dzama. So when I found out he was co-directing the video for one of my fave new Department of Eagles songs, 'No One Does It Like You,' I couldn't wait to see his characters come to life. The result, which I was lucky enough to see premiered at MoMA last night, is a surreal war story set in Dzama-land, a strange battle of the sexes between civil war-type soldiers and ninja-terrorist ballerinas. There's also a ghost ... Read More
