'Push' It Real Good

BY Jenni in General |

Courtesy of Anne Marie Fox/Lionsgate The economy being what it is, I didn't really have the ducats to don some UGGs and fly to Utah for the Sundance film festival. I'm not all that bummed except I missed out on the premiere of Push, which won the Sundance Grand Jury and Audience Award. Push was snapped up by Lionsgate who was, well, pushed to acquire the flick by its main money-maker (other than the Saw movies) Tyler Perry and one-woman media juggernaut ... Read More
Check out this award winning video called The Story of Stuff . It is narrated and written by Annie Leonard who tells the story of where our stuff comes from, what happens to it when we throw it away and who really benefits from our crazy consumption obsession (THE MAN! no surprise there) It is sort of depressing but if you stick with it til the end, you're left feeling optimistic about the future. Maybe we will all think twice before we buy our tenth pair of ... Read More

Just when you thought that Sarah Palin had finally receeded into the back of our national consciousness like a bad dream, she's in the news again. This time, according to CNN , it's because her continued 'support for aerial wolf-hunting has sparked a heated cross-country war of words between the governor and an environmental ad campaign fronted by the actress Ashley Judd, with Palin calling the organization funding the ads an 'extreme fringe group.'' As a So-Cal suburban teen, I was a die-hard Sonic Youth lover. So when Kim Gordon launched X-Girl clothing in 1994 I became an insta-fan. My favorite T-shirt was electric blue and said X-Girl in neon orange and pink and wearing it immediately helped me separate the kids I'd like to know from the ones I wouldn't: every jock would say 'X-Girl, does that mean you're a dude now?' while every music nerd would give a knowing nod of alliance. I still mourn its American ... Read More
For those of you who aren't into watching the Koalas battle the Manatees this Sunday at the Stupor Bowl (I have no understanding of who is playing, or how sports work), there is a safe place to rest your eyeballs. Sarah Haskins, the brilliant comedian profiled in the December/January issue of BUST, will be hosting a show on Current called the 'Target Women Super Special.' The hour-long special, ... Read More

Blowfish balls

BY Laurie in General |

The New York Times reported today that 7 diners became seriously ill after eating blowfish testicles in Japan recently. The police said the restaurant did not have a license to serve the Japanese delicacy and are investigating. (Note to self: Do not ingest fish balls. Ever.) I'm curious if anyone has ever tried the blowfish? Is it really that good that you would risk paralysis? Enquiring minds want to know. Via ... Read More
