Cro-Mags in NY

BY Ali C in Music Stuff |

One of my favorite bands ever has a show coming up, and I can't wait! The hardcore legends and New York natives, Cro-Mags, will be playing at Santos Party House on Tuesday, December 29th. Anyone who has seen this band live knows what a great show they put on, and considering this is a hometown jam for them, I'm betting it's going to be bananas. So get ready to sing along and get sweaty! photo courtesy of ... Read More
Finally!  A teaser trailer for The Runaways starring Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett and Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie. Emphasis on the word 'teaser' -- it's less than a minute long. But you get to see 1) Dakota wearing some amazing '70s red streak blush and 2) K-Stew smash a chair. I've already watched it 3 times in the past 10 minutes. It seems Brooklyn is the place to be tonight -- in addition to the Beauty Bar vodka party, BUST's own Susan Juvet is hosting a release party for her new Free Danger record at Death By Audio in Williamsburg. There will be performances by Pictureplane, Javelin, Jones, and Moss of Aura -- and after all that, the Free Danger DJs will be spinnin' till the wee hours. So bring $7 and a little extra cash for cheap beer -- we promise you'll have a good time. Photo courtesy ... Read More
I have been going sort of nuts over Hidden, the new These New Puritans album, which is set to be released by Domino on March 2nd. I wasn't familiar with the band until recently, but now I'm hooked and will be forced to sniff out their first release, Beat Pyramid, as well.  The first single off of Hidden is called "We Want War," and happens to be my favorite song off of the album. I usually hate when that happens, but luckily the rest of the CD is just as ... Read More
Even though I was sick as a dog and filled with green boogers from the shoulders up, I ran-skipped all the way to the BUST office when I got word that my Joey Roth Ceramic Speakers had arrived. "I hope you don't have to send these back; the box is huge," my editor informed me. And I'm glad that I don't have to send them back too because at this point, I would put on a onesie and wrestle someone to the ground to be able to keep these things.  Joey Roth lives in ... I don’t know about you but there is only one record I reach for at this time of year – Phil Spector’s ‘A Christmas Gift for You.' From the ‘ringadingadingdongding’ of Sleigh Ride to the multi layered Frostie the Snowman, it’s the only soundtrack you’ll ever need for wrapping, baking and decorating. Now I don’t want to dwell on the distinctly un-festive things which have happened to Phil since he produced the ... Read More
That's right, folks.  Tonight, New York's own Les Savy Fav will be on IFC's "Dinner with the Band" at 8pm.  So check your local listings!  And if you don't have cable, go to a friend's house.    Check out the video from their song "Shoes" on Yo Gabba Gabba...   You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this video     Photo courtesy of The Village ... Thanks to a good friend who had a spare ticket, I was fortunate enough to spend last Friday evening at Webster Hall here in NYC with indie/art/prog/whatever you want to call them-rockers, Mew. Having no experience seeing the Danish band live, I was pretty excited to see what they had in store. The evening opened with the Brooklyn-based band, Bear in Heaven. I try to stay open-minded when it comes to opening bands, especially when they are preceding highly known ... Read More
We've been fans of Rachel Trachtenburg since she was but a wee lass, bangin' the drums for her family's band, the Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players. So it's a little hard to believe that she's turning 16. What's not hard to believe though, is how many awesome people will be helping her celebrate on December 13th at the House of Yes in Brooklyn! With performances by Murray Hill, Care Bears on Fire, and Rachel's new band SUPERCUTE, this is a sweet 16 party you ... Read More
