It didn't help that I saw the ironically titled Celeste and Jesse Forever post break-up, so consider that a warning. If the humor hadn't consisted of jacking off with a piece of baby corn and a gay Elijah Wood, I would have desperately sought out the theater's nearest exit to escape the sweaty interior of the on-screen friendship. Thank goddess some people are just as perverted as I am.
Celeste (Rashida Jones) and Jesse (Andy Samberg) are a couple in the process ... Read More

It's the summer for international sports, but how about international filmmaking? I had the pleasure of attending this year's Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, an international genre film experience that is now in its sixteenth year, running from July 19 to August 9th. While the festival screens 160 films, ranging from anime to horror to exploitation, and more, I still had to sift through the collection to find my lady directors. There were only a ... Read More

When it comes to werewolves, there are a few words you can usually expect to hear. 'Taylor Lautner,' 'teen wolf' and 'chiseled abs' are a few of the usual suspects. 'Lesbians' and--hell--even 'girls' are far more rare. The most high profile werechick on TV right now is Rikki (Kelly Overton) on True Blood, the girl Alcide is trying to sexercise with while practicing for his impending pack leader battle. But, that’s about to change with June ... Read More

Queen of Versailles follows the lives of the billionaire Siegel family, documenting its journey from riches to rags, but the movie reaches further than the confines of the Siegel's massive home. The affecting film ultimately examines the American Dream, and reveals the outcomes and consequences of blindly chasing success.
Originally meant to chronicle the construction of the Siegels' 90,000 square-foot home (the largest house in America) in Florida, the ... Read More

Scarlett Johansson has officially entered the Hollywood big leagues. Although she’s won BAFTAs and been nominated for a number of Golden Globes in the past, it looks like 2012 is really Scarlett’s year. After starring in The Avengers, the third biggest box office hit ever, she’s set up for a huge payday.
Disney and Marvel studios are reportedly offering the 27 year-old actress $20 million to reprise her role as super-spy Black Widow for ... Read More

It’s not exactly the popcorn action flick you think of when you hear the phrase “summer movie,” but Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom may be one of the most evocative portrayals of that season that I’ve seen. It takes place in summer 1965 on a craggy New England island, and you can practically smell the salty sea air through the screen. The film centers on two unlikely lovebirds: preteens Sam Shakusky (an orphan and a dedicated ... Read More

If you are a human with access to the internet, you are probably aware that Magic Mike premiered this weekend. You are probably also aware that it involved mostly naked men, several of whom are very, very good-looking, and one of whom is a very excellent dancer. But here's the thing--did you also know that there's a thing called pornography? Because that exists, too, and if you're into naked dudes, you should probably just watch that instead.
Never in my ... Read More

Animated movies usually revolve around cute talking animals and macho heroes, but lately, ladies seem to be taking over the genre. Brave knocked fellow animated film Madagascar 3 off its pedestal at the top of box office last week--the former earned $66.3 million in the USA alone. This week, the international trailer for Epic (the 2013 animated flick from the creators of Ice Age) was released, and it looks like the movie may live up to its title. With voice-acting ... Read More

You may already know that beloved essayist, author, journalist and filmmaker Nora Ephron died Tuesday night of leukemia. She was 71 years old. Ephron died a three-time Academy Award nominee for the films "Silkwood," ''When Harry Met Sally ..." and "Sleepless in Seattle." She was the boss in two very male dominated fields of her time: journalism and film. A graduate of Wellsley College, she was determined to become a journalist, and caught her big break ... Read More

If you've ever been on the internet or watched TV past 10 PM, you know there are sexy, hot singles in your area just itching to talk to you...for a price. Have you ever wondered who the person on the other end of the advertisement is? Are they actually hot or sexy? Are they even single? Are they robots?
According to the new hilarious movie For a Good Time, Call... out in September, they are indeed hot, but sometimes reluctant. The flick follows the ... Read More
