"In the Family", features 27 year old filmmaker Joanna Rudnick who tested positive for the BRCA genetic mutation, which means that she has an extremly high chance of developing breast, and, or ovarian cancer. Through a critical lens, she examines the impact of genetic research on a personal level, following other women who have tested positive for BCRA and for whom cancer runs in their family, as well as the problems testing for BRCA present.
