Sam Adams and Tara from 94.7 FM to Host 3nd Annual
Junk to Funk Recycled Fashion Show Contest.
A night of trash, fashion, art and sustainability. November
15th will mark the Third annual Junk to Funk Recycled Fashion Show Contest. The
show will feature pieces of wearable art and fashion made out of found objects,
recycled materials and things you normally might find in the trash.
Contestants will compete for prizes up to $500 and will be judged by panel of lo-
cal note worthies rightfully dubbed the “Junk Jury†comprised of representatives
from Same Underneath, The ReBuilding Center, Wieden and Kennedy, Orlo and
The Recycling Advocates. Winners will be determined based on the unique use of
materials, creativity and craftsmanship.
The event will again be hosted by Portland’s Mayor Sam Adams along with Tara
of 94.7 FM, DJ’d by Gustav of 94.7 FM and will feature a performance by the Key
Turn Project. SCRAP will once again be providing a DIY junk accessories table,
and as always, audience costumes are highly encouraged!
The Junk to Funk fashion show will be held on November 15, 2008 at the Wonder
Ballroom 128 NE Russell in Northeast Portland, and is in collaboration with ORLO;
a non-profit organization that uses the creative arts to explore and bring aware-
ness to environmental issues. Tickets are available through the Wonder Ballroom,
at www.junktofunk.org and at all Ticketmaster location: $16 for advance purchase,
$20 at the door, or $35 for preferred seating. Junk to Funk is a 21 and older event.
