In conjunction with the exhibition Pilgrimage and Faith: Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam, the Rubin Museum of Art presents The Road that Teaches, an on-stage conversation series exploring faith and pilgrimage from a variety of perspectives.

Guests from different walks of life and spiritual experiences, including feminist icon Gloria Steinem, artist Hughie O'Donoghue, and poet Eliza Griswold, will reflect on questions like: What is sacred in this largely secular age? How do we honor other belief systems? What is it about pilgrimage that lends it abiding power to transform?

“All of us in life wonder where we are headed,” says Rubin Museum Producer Tim McHenry. “The pilgrimage towards a sacred destination becomes a metaphor for life’s journey and so is a powerful way to test our tenacity, to engage with community, and learn something of ourselves. It is the road that teaches. In this series we hope to learn something from others’ experience.”
Gloria Steinem + Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo
Wednesday, June 1; 6:00pm
$35
Feminist icon and writer Gloria Steinem and British-born Tibetan Buddhist nun Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo will engage on questions of faith, the wellspring of belief, and Tenzin Palmo's pilgrimage to India that led her to sequester herself in a "Cave in the Snow" for twelve years.
