Tuesday, August 28 @ 7PM – $5 Suggested Reading: Vanessa Huang and Cheryl Clarke “Our Poembody Selves” Join Vanessa Huang and Cheryl Clarke as we share work from our poembody selves in conversation with each other, and you and yours. Poets, activists, mentors to each other in many ways, Cheryl Clarke and Vanessa Huang met in 2011 through a National Queer Arts Festival experiment testing how artistic relationships support and sustain poets as they write as a means of political re-imagination and reclamation. Vanessa Huang is a poet, cultural worker and activist from Oakland whose practice inherits teachings from the prison abolition, migrant justice, gender liberation, transformative justice, disability justice, and reproductive justice movements. Cheryl Clarke is the author of four books of poetry, including “Experimental Love,” which was nominated for a 1994 Lambda Literary Award.
