The Who Tribute Concert- NYC (8:00 PM - 11:00 PM)
Michael Dorf announced today the first artists confirmed to play a special tribute concert to take place March 2, 2010, at Carnegie Hall, celebrating the anthemic, insurgent music of The Who. The initial group of artists honoring the group's unparalleled repertoire include: Frank Black (of the Pixies), Bobby McFerrin, Bob Mould (of Husker Du), Gaslight Anthem, Matt Nathanson, Sondre Lerche, The Postelles, Warren Haynes & Govt. Mule, Living Colour, Robyn Hitchcock, The Smithereens and Mose Allison (author of The Who hit "Young Man Blues"). As many as ten more artists will be added to the line-up in the coming weeks. This will be the sixth concert in a series to raise crucially needed funds benefiting music education programs for underprivileged youth. Previous sold-out concerts presented by Dorf have honored the music of such timeless artists as Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John and R.E.M. 100% of the net proceeds from the March 2 concert will be given to six music education non-profits: The American Symphony Orchestra Music Notes, Church Street School of Music, Young Audiences , Music Unites All-Youth Choir, The Pinwheel Project, and FIKS (Fixing Instruments for Kids in Schools). "I grew up listening to The Who," said Dorf, "and while the artists we're bringing together to honor them are incredibly diverse, they share a certain authenticity that has also defined music of The Who. This series has produced some unforgettable moments - including seeing Bruce Springsteen and REM make surprise appearances at their own tributes - and I expect the Who night to be one of the most memorable shows yet." Fans will have a number of ticket options for The Who tribute concert, including a VIP package that guarantees the best seats in the house plus an after-party hosted by City Winery (155 Varick St. New York, NY) to be attended by all the performing artists.

Artists: Christine da Cruz, Pamela-Cleo Godard, Giana Gonzalez, Willa Goldthwaite, Anjelika Krishna, Lizette Louis, Roxana Marroquin, Holly Pitre, Sonali Sridhar, Agnieszka Wszolkowski
Curated by Doris Cacoilo and Renata Moreira
New Jersey City University is pleased to host WW5: Ah, Motherland!, the culminating exhibition of the Wonder Women Residency Project presented by _gaia. The residency invited artists and curators from the New Jersey/New York area to participate in a six week program that would engage them in discussions about their work, feminism, (im)migration, identity construction, human rights, and culture.
WW5: Ah, Motherland! created a collective dialogue and artwork that explored the dynamic issues of emigration and (im)migration into the United States. As the projects came into focus, it became clear that notions of home, family, culture, and heritage are as as fluid and rich as the work being created. The exhibition illustrates a collective journey to determine the participants' knowledge of (im)migration, as well as to set a new standard of living with cultural relatedness and awareness. Each project represents a personal struggle with (im)migration and it’s effect on identity. Anjelika Krishna drapes her heirloom saris to create new representations of self and identity that includes a merger of east and west. Sonali Sridhar explores technology, tradition and design in "Odhni," a traditional Indian textile that harnesses solar energy.
Other artists explore notions of body and memory. Holly Pitre uses essential elements of salt and water to illustrate change, erosion and a personal typography of identity. Roxana Marroquin's "In my Skin" uses photography to merge her body with landscapes of memory. Giana Gonzalez and Christina da Cruz both approach a revisiting and reframing of their cultures with their work exploring Portuguese Fado and Panamanian Carnavale. In the exploration of Motherland many of the artists focused on mothers and the inheritance of culture and identity through family. Willa Goldwaithe reinvents the japanese noren inspired by her grandmother. Lizette Louis and Pamela Godard both create portraits of mothers via woodburning and video productions, respectively, and Agnieska Wszolkowski collaborates with her mother in "Gobelin" in order to explore her own Polish culture and traditions of craft and artmaking.
WW5 coincides with the Feminist Art Project. The purpose of the Feminist Art Project is to bring public attention to the significant and continuing impact of women and their art on all aspects of contemporary art practice, highlighting their international influence, and guaranteeing their inclusion in the cultural record, past, present, and future.
_gaia is a collective of women, for women, for the making of textiles, clothing, printmaking, painting, architecture, music, film, photography, science, the performing arts, writing, environmental, social and political activism: all things which color the lives of the women involved. We actively promote and support the work of local women artists while developing programming to reach out to and help emerging artists in need of studio space, facilities and resources. In our pursuit of awareness we also concentrate on activism, from issues in the local community to global issues affecting the lives of women.

Hypergender Burlesque Presents: BROADS WITH BALLS, NYC (10:00 PM - 11:00 PM)
Once upon a time in this great country of ours women were considered second class citizens, they could not own property, hold most jobs or vote. They were taught to be obedient to their fathers and husbands and were often punished for misbehaving. Yet, many of them rebelled, often at great risks. Many of them were leaders and warriors, thinkers and artists and many of them were hidden in the dungeons of history only to be unearthed in recent years by feminist scholars. In "Broads with Balls" HyperGender brings some these (in)famous ladies as burlesque meets women history month. Fear not, men will not be hurt as they join us in this raucous celebration of "fairer sex" and while no bras will be burned due to New York City fire laws, many will fly off to expose brave bosoms of bawdy burlesque broads!

Prison Freaks: A Talent Show (One Woman Show UCBT) NY, NY (9:30 PM - 10:30 PM)
Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre Presents PRISON FREAKS: A TALENT SHOW Written and Performed by Shannon O’Neill The Charlie Sheen Prison for the Criminally Retarded and Insane is hosting it’s annual talent show, and you are invited. Enjoy the talents of four inmates who have committed acts of violence far worse than Dahmer, Bundy or Leno. Who would have thought a group of filth could also be gifted entertainers? Performed by UCBT veteran Shannon O'Neill, the inmates are shamelessly homicidal, depraved and possibly supernatural. They are also eager to play Casio keyboards, tell stand-up and draw caricatures. The show is so dangerous that it can only be hosted by a computer, who routinely warns the audience of the danger they are in -- both psychological and physical -- by attending the show. Directed by Will Hines Featuring Polo Tate and Kat Toledo Graphics by Matt Mayer “I wanted to write and perform a show that truly expressed what I think is funny. And an incarcerated Cyclops that both destroys the lives of children, but also enjoys the same pop songs as today’s youth, pretty much sums up my sense of humor.” –Shannon O’Neill
Mondays March 8th & 29th @ 9:30PM
UCB Theatre, 307 West 26th Street, NY NY
Reservations can be made by calling 212.366.9176 or visiting http://newyork.ucbtheatre.com/shows/2240

The Op-Ed Project - NYC (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM)
The op-ed pages of our nation’s newspapers are overwhelmingly dominated by men, and because op-ed is a feeder of other media, the lack of women on these pages perpetuates and exacerbates the under-representation of women in larger ways. Started by Katie Orenstein, the OpEd Project is an initiative to expand public debate by expanding the pool of women who are accessing (and accessible to) news editors. Learn about the project’s mission to get more women’s voices in the op-ed pages of major print and online forums of public discourse.

Wonder Bread: A Comedic Show On The Coming To America Of A Polish Farmer's Daughter, NYC (8:00 PM)
So that one of his daughters could see the world, the father of Polish-born actress Danusia Trevino had to work hard, save and borrow. To get Danusia her first airline ticket to New York, he bribed the ticket clerk (a lady with a purple beehive and a golden tooth) with a pig. The first time Danusia arrived here to visit relatives in Valley Stream, NY, she ate a peck of fresh fruit and drank a gallon of Tropicana (no pulp). She couldn't sleep wondering if she would put her Wonder Bread in the toaster the next morning, or eat it soft. Her story of coming to America, and coming into herself here, is "Wonder Bread," a solo show. Theater for the New City will present the premiere of the piece March 11 to 28, directed by Aleksey Burago. "Wonder Bread" is a fairytale-like odyssey about a farmer¹s daughter from behind the Iron Curtain. Escaping her poor village in Poland, where she helped her family grow tomatoes, she flew here first for a three week vacation and subsequently came back to stay. Eventually she achieved the secure married life in America that her parents had wanted for her, but realized that it was not exactly what she desired. At 28, she met Iggy Pop and experienced teenage rebellion. She rejected her past, painfully tried to reinvent herself over and over, only to realize one truth: there is no hope for happiness without the acceptance of one¹s roots.
March 11 to 28
Theater for the New City, 155 First Avenue (at E. 10th Street) Presented by Theater for the New City Thursdays through Saturdays at 8:00 pm, Sundays at 3:00 pm $10; Box office (212) 254-1109

Generosi-titties - A Comedy Benefit For The Young Survival Coalition, NYC (7:00 PM)
On March 14, 2010, for the first time ever, jokes will be told topless in the name of breast cancer at GENEROSI-TITTIES! What is GENEROSI-TITTIES? It’s full-frontal philanthropy: A topless comedy show to benefit the Young Survival Coalition. Presented by Comix, produced by Leah Dubie (Tru TV, LOGO) and Amy Beckerman (HBO, MTV) and headlined by internationally renowned comedian Elvira Kurt (The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Montreal’s Just for Laughs Comedy Festival), GENEROSI-TITTIES will donate 100 percent of the proceeds to The Young Survival Coalition (YSC). YSC is an international organization dedicated to the critical issues unique to young women with breast cancer. To date, YSC has helped tens of thousands of young women across the United States. Beckerman is personally affected by the disease. “I met my friend Meghan when she was going through cancer treatment. I was shocked that she was so young. Nobody thinks that women our age get breast cancer. YSC is working to change that and we are happy to help. But this is how we help…partially nude,” joked Beckerman.
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 the day of the performance. They can be purchased online at www.comixny.com com> or by calling the box office at 212.524.2500 For more information on the benefit please visit www.generosititties.org For more information on the Young Survival Coalition please visit www.youngsurvival.org vival.org>

Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci, aka Garfunkel and Oates, are an adorably bizarre comedy-folk duo that have been making waves everywhere lately. You’ve heard them on the show Scrubs and seen them perform on The Jay Leno Show, now you can see them live when they headline Comix this March.
Often called “the female Flight of the Conchords”, the ladies of Garfunkel and Oates have been performing separately for years. Riki has been seen in movies like Million Dollar Baby, The Last House on the Left, Changeling, and TV shows like The Big Bang Theory and Pushing Daisies. Kate grew up playing classical piano and studying art before she tried her hand in comedy, appearing in TV shows like Scrubs, Rules of Engagement, Cory in the House and the upcoming movie When in Rome. The two met while both were performing at the UCB Theater in LA, and were a huge hit locally. Then their song “Screw You” was featured on an episode of Scrubs, and now they’re a huge hit everywhere.
We can’t wait for these two quirky songstresses to hit our stage, and we bet you can’t either!

The All-American Genderf*ck Cabaret - NY, NY (7:00 PM)
Rapscallion Theatre Collective proudly presents the world premiere of the all-american genderf*ck cabaret, a new play by Mariah MacCarthy. Krystal Banzon directs the limited engagement at the East Village’s UNDER St. Marks, March 25 – April 3, 2010.
In this intimately outrageous cabaret, eight gender stereotypes are plucked straight from pop culture: a Girly Girl, a Manly Man, a Nice Guy, a Gay Best Friend, a Slut, a Feminist Lesbian, and a Tomboy. Guided by an androgynous, omnipotent MC intent on their redemption, they embark on eight sexy, hilarious journeys from stereotypes to Human Beings. Along the way, hearts are broken, Pomeranians are purchased, the Pussies of America make their stand, and everyone does the “Single Ladies” dance. Biting yet compassionate, this epic ensemble piece skewers everything from feminism to sexting; from acquaintance rape to infidelity; from homophobia and assault, to loneliness and the bass-ackwards ways we seek affection--just to name a few. The sharp edges of caricature soften; connection replaces spectacle; and men, women, and none-of-the-aboves discover that in a polarized world of pink versus blue, everyone deserves Technicolor.
Rapscallion Theatre Collective’s the all-american genderf*ck cabaret opens Thursday, March 25 and continues Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7pm through April 4th. All performances take place at UNDER St. Marks, located at 94 St. Marks Place (between First Avenue and Avenue A – Basement Theater, not wheelchair accessible) New York, NY 10003. Take the F train to 2nd Avenue/Lower East Side, 6 to Astor Place, L to First Avenue.
Tickets to the all-american genderf*ck cabaret are $18 and are available by calling SmartTix at 212-868-4444, or online at www.rapscalliontheatrecollective.com.

The Jim Thorpe Burlesque Festival - Jim Thorpe, PA (10:00 AM)
Dragontown Corsets Presents: The Jim Thorpe Burlesque Festival March 27-28, 2010, Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania Burlesque has finally come home to roost at one of America's oldest operating Vaudeville theaters! On March 27 and 28, 2010, Dragontown Corsets will host the First Annual Jim Thorpe Burlesque Festival, which is a weekend-long gathering of performers, pastie enthusiasts, and spectators whom will converge on gorgeous, historic downtown Jim Thorpe, PA for classes, lectures, dance workshops, and the Burlesque Bazaar. The highlight of the JTBF will be The Big Reveal; a Saturday evening Burlesque show and competition at the 1881 Mauch Chunk Opera House. The Big Reveal will feature some of Burlesque's most seasoned performers, as well as numbers by up-and-coming entertainers. The best performer, as evaluated by our panel of guest judges, will receive the Crystal Corset award, as well as a cash prize of $500.00. The Jim Thorpe Burlesque Festival's "Big Reveal" is slated to include an eye-popping array of locally and nationally recognized burlesque performers. The roster includes Jacqueline Hyde of Seattle's "Tempest Burlesque," Eva Valentine of San Francisco, Bella Sin of "Le Femme Mystique Burlesque," and Philadelphia's own "Peek-A-Boo Revue," who were awarded "Best Troupe" by the Miss Exotic World Convention of 2008. Adding to the excitement is a variety of Neo-Vaudeville acts, including sword and fire swallower Riley Schillaci, bellydancer Morgana Perezada, and "The Human Floor," who will attempt to break his own Guinness World Record by allowing 3,000 pounds to be placed upon his body. The Jim Thorpe Burlesque Festival stands to be one of Eastern Pennsylvania's most anticipated events of the year. But more importantly, it has been designed as a fundraiser. Ticket sales raise much needed funds for the restoration and ongoing preservation of the Mauch Chunk Opera House; a landmark theater that was a regular stop on the Vaudeville circuit. It has held performances by Al Jolson, The Dorsey Brothers, Eddie Foy, and the immortal Mae West. Funds raised will contribute greatly to its return as the crowing jewel of a town that remains true to its Victorian era architecture. The Jim Thorpe Burlesque Festival is now accepting applications for performers and vendors, and is actively seeking event volunteers as well as instructors of all-things-burlesque! Visit us at http://www.jimthorpeburlesque.com to see what all the excitement is about!

Prison Freaks: A Talent Show (One Woman Show UCBT) NY, NY (9:30 PM - 10:30 PM)
Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre Presents PRISON FREAKS: A TALENT SHOW Written and Performed by Shannon O’Neill
The Charlie Sheen Prison for the Criminally Retarded and Insane is hosting it’s annual talent show, and you are invited.
Directed by Will Hines Featuring Polo Tate and Kat Toledo Graphics by Matt Mayer
“I wanted to write and perform a show that truly expressed what I think is funny. And an incarcerated Cyclops that both destroys the lives of children, but also enjoys the same pop songs as today’s youth, pretty much sums up my sense of humor.” –Shannon O’Neill
Performance Dates:
Mondays March 8th & 29th, 9:30pm

"In Shannon O'Neill's "Prison Freaks: A Talent Show," the veteran UCB improviser and teacher has compiled a cavalcade of prison misfits so freakish in looks and behavior that they come full circle to funny." –The Apiary
