Les Femmes Folles: VOICE Feminist Exhibit (8:00 PM)
Les Femmes Folles: Voice, presents eleven “wild women’s” moving, provocative work that showcases the feelings and experiences of womanhood in our own worlds. Our work engages with a range of subjects, from sweet to seduction, from political to domestic. Addressing such complex matters in a variety of mediums, we aim to challenge the status quo and politics of power and give light and enhance positive communication about this ever-important subject of feminism to complement such worldwide feminist-inspired projects.
Feminism and feminist art is not a new idea, however it is now somewhat of an overlooked or derogatory area of discussion in popular and youth culture, perhaps especially in conservative places like Omaha. With VOICE, we eleven midwestern artists, hope to perhaps re-enlighten feminism and feminist art’s original intent, while also communicating the continued contemporary purpose to our Omaha community. Our female perspective and voice becomes the foundation for a fantastical, exotic extrapolation that could be appreciated across the globe. Change begins with illumination — attention, pointing, identifying and generally shining lights in dark places. News organizations play a role in this. So, increasingly, does social technology communication. And so does art. Artists of VOICE: …. Sally Deskins, Marcia Joffe-Bouska, Wanda Ewing, Kristin Lubbert, Amy Quinn, Jewel Noll, Melanie Pruitt, Megan Loudon Sanders, Trudie Teijink, Trilety Wade and Ella Weber Les Femmes Folles: Voice is the third Les Femmes Folles visual exhibition; the original Les Femmes Folles was curated by Wanda Ewing in April 2011, featuring visual art by five regional artists who were women in conjunction with Lit Undressed Presents: The Spirit of the Female Beats at RNG Gallery with the focus on the use of female body in art. The show was nominated for an Omaha Arts and Entertainment Award for Best Group Show 2012. In July 2011, Peerless Gallery in Omaha hosted Les Femmes Folles Presents: A Curated Show Featuring Wanda Ewing and Kim Reid Kuhn, a pop-up exhibition featuring over a dozen regional visual artists who were women. The original show also inspired Les Femmes Folles: a blog celebrating women in art created and still maintained by Sally Deskins in April 2011 featuring interviews and stories with women doing creative work. Sally also hosts other events with her blog like panel discussions, filming, performances and readings celebrating women in art. She hopes to continue the now tradition of collaborating with women artists and coordinating events and exhibits celebrating women’s experience with VOICE and more.

Chelsea Knight's Currents At Saint Louis Art Museum (All Day)
This spring, the Museum's ongoing series devoted to contemporary art, Currents, features multi-media artist and current Freund Fellow Chelsea Knight, who investigates various concepts of labor, class, and gender through installation, video, and photography. In this exhibition, Knight creates the semblance of a construction site, a reference to the Museum itself as a place of physical labor with the ongoing expansion project. Knight's photographs of the East Building site will be presented alongside Frame (2012), a video featuring actual construction workers reciting feminist writings and poetry about desire, language, and labor.
Concurrently screening in the New Media Series gallery will be Knight's The End of All Resistance (2010), in which the artist transfers US Army interrogation techniques to a domestic setting. Knight examines the crucial role language plays in everyday life—how it shapes human relationships and affects our understanding, as well as misunderstanding, of others. Most significantly, Knight interrogates language itself, revealing its performative nature and role in the construction of power.
Curated by Tricia Y. Paik, assistant curator of modern and contemporary art, Currents 106: Chelsea Knight will be on view in Galleries 338 and 301 from April 6 through July 1, 2012. This presentation is supported by the Henry L. and Natalie E. Freund Endowment Fund.

Overlooked/Looked Over (8:00 AM)
Featuring art by eight women veterans, Overlooked / Looked Overshines a light on the unique experiences of women during service, in war, and as veterans.
Mae West, the late American actress and sex symbol, once said, "I'd rather be looked over than overlooked." With Overlooked / Looked Over, curator Erica Slone responds to this false dichotomy of attitudes about women and the way these polar attitudes toward women are exacerbated within our armed forces.
The show’s opening reception on March 10, 2012 was timed to coincide with the centenary anniversary of International Women’s Day. Annually on March 8, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements. All around the world, women are connected by activities ranging from business conferences and networking events to local women's craft markets and theatric performances. Hundreds of guests enjoyed the opening, with artist and curator talks and a musical performance.
Overlooked / Looked Over will be open to the public from Wednesday, February 29, 2012 through Memorial Day 2012.
National Veteran's Art Museum, Chicago, Illinois.

Mae West, the late American actress and sex symbol, once said, "I'd rather be looked over than overlooked." Annually on March 8, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements. Hundreds of guests enjoyed the opening, with artist and curator talks and a musical performance.
Overlooked / Looked Over will be open to the public from Wednesday, February 29, 2012 through Memorial Day 2012.

Rachael Sage Releases (All Day)
New York, NY: Illustrious and riveting, Rachael Sage is a born performer. With mezmerizing vocals, a natural talent for songwriting and flair in droves, it's no surprise that the prolific songstress has garnered attention internationally. "Haunted By You", set to hit via Rachael's own MPress Records on May 22nd, is a song cycle about passion and features guest vocalistsDar Williams, Katie Costello and actor/director Joshua Leonard ("Blair Witch Project", "Humpday"). The NYC-based artist and producer explains, "I fell recklessly in and out of love multiple times while writing this record. I broke a couple hearts...and I also had my heart broken pretty badly". "Haunted By You" is a record that is immediately welcoming, pulling you in from the very first melodies and swirling effortlessly and seductively through your ears and into your heart on the very first listen.
Rachael Sage has become one of the busiest touring artists in independent music, performing 150+ dates a year throughout the US, UK, Europe and Asia. Recognized globally for her compelling work, she has seen airplay on BBC Radio 2 and has shared stages with Ani DiFranco, Sarah McLachlan, Colin Hay, Judy Collins, Marc Cohn and Shawn Colvin. Rachael has performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and New York's Fashion Night Out. She's garnered many accolades including the Grand Prize in The John Lennon Songwriting Contest as well as severalOUTmusic and Independent Music Awards. Rachael's songs have been licensed to HBO, MTV andLifetime Television and her music has also appeared in the movie and on the Lakeshore Films soundtrack of "Fame".
Sage wrote the 13 songs on the album on piano and guitar after ending a long-term relationship. Alone, reflecting on her breakup, she found herself suddenly prolific. After her breakup she had an intense affair with someone she met overseas. "I was swept off my feet...but it was an impossible situation." "Soulstice", featuring Counting Crows' David Immergluck on mandolin, "captures that moment where I was as happy as I've ever been, even though it was fleeting." The concept of soulmates reappears throughout the record. Rachael wrote the Americana-inspired "Abby Would You Wait" about someone with whom she shared one long conversation after a gig, but with whom she connected so strongly that she saw an entire future. Likewise, the lush, acoustic guitar-based "Everything"celebrates the shameless joy of a new attraction, "when all you can see is shimmering possibility."
Rachael, while an acclaimed artist in her own right, is also an accomplished business woman, running her own successful independent label MPress Records, which saw its first GRAMMY nod this year with Seth Glier's "The Next Right Thing" as well as their first Billboard charting record with Melissa Ferrick's "Still Right Here". Sage also produces her label's annual charity compilation series, "New Arrivals", whose current volume benefits homeless youth.

The show’s opening reception on March 10, 2012 was timed to coincide with the centenary anniversary of International Women’s Day. Annually on March 8, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements.

Women Of Power: A Solo Photography Exhibit By Katarzyna Majak (6:30 PM)
Katarzyna Majak explores the power of women as she searches for female wisdom and plurality of spiritual paths hidden within monoreligious Polish society. Majak's Women of Power series turns stereotypical witch imagery on its head and showcases striking images of women ranging from their 30's to 80's, wearing colorful unconventional clothes, and holding their unique objects of power. When asked what being a witch meant to one of the subjects in the series, she replied 'A witch is a woman of knowledge who takes a broom and sweeps to cleanse the world.'
Opening reception with the artist 6:30 - 8:30 at Porter / Contemporary, 548 W. 28th Street, 3rd Floor, NYC.
