Participating comedian Meg Cupernall

With the popularity of women like Amy Poehler and Tina Fey blowing up in recent years, it’s clear that ladies have been taking the comedy world by storm.  And thank goodness for that!  They shine sunlight on the gloom in our lives and make us LOL through all of life’s ups and downs.

Well, if you like funny ladies and want to LYAO you can check out the She-Devil Comedy festival this October 24 through 28 in New York.  The festival will consist of over 70 funny gals competing at the Laughing Devil Comedy Club in Long Island City to win over $2000 in prizes and paid gigs in clubs.

The She-Devil Comedy Festival is an extension of the Laughing Skull and Laughing Devil festivals.  The point of the fest is to celebrate women in the comedy world and to promote aspiring women comics.  So, in addition to the competition, the festival will be five days of comedy headliner shows, seminars, panel discussions, networking, and parties to get the names of these comedians out there.  Because WE NEED MORE FUNNY LADIES.

These 70 comedians were chosen out of 250 from Europe and North America that applied to compete. These ladies will have a shot at making it big as they perform in front of a crowd consisting of agents, managers, bookers, and casting directors.

While all the competitive shows will be held at the Laughing Devil Comedy Club in Long Island City, 18 shows will be held at five venues throughout New York City, including Gotham and Broadway Comedy Clubs.

You can check out a list of the comedians performing and the events of the festival here.

It will be money well spent for this laugh fest, since a portion of all proceeds go towards FORCE, an organization that focuses on educating and supporting women who suffer from issues like breast cancer and ovarian cancer.

Tickets for the festival are $20 plus a minimum of two drinks or food items, and according to Laughing Devil, they’ve got some good local draft brews on tap at the club in Long Island City.  You can buy tickets online here or at the box office by calling 347-913-3845.
