Here's another reason why I worry about Clindamycin. This is a reply to a message that I posted at another forum. Cleocin=oral clindamycin. But I'm sure you already know that.

QUOTE
You need to try one treatment at a time. After each treatment, go to your doctor and get checked and have a culture to make sure that you are clean. It will take some time for the BV to disappear. I was taking Cleocin for 2 weeks straight and then, I started incorporating yogurt and acidophilus w/ bifidus. Since then, I've been clean since November 2006.

The only battle I have now is with the rare yeast infection. No OTC drugs has effect on it. Diflucan doesn't work. My infection has grown resistant to all the treatments. I've tried terazol and the boric acid. Currently, I'm being treated with gentian violet. I go to my doctor for 12 days and have them administer the purple dye in my vagina. So, I'm hoping this will work. I was also told to do a douche of vinegar with water and salt, only to be sprayed on the outside and not inside like a "regular" douche and rub some cornstarch.

I firmly believe that the Cleocin is what assisted her in getting this rare strain of yeast and that the yeast just replaced the bv. There was a battle in her vagina and the yeast won. She said in another post that she has the Candida Glabrata form. That shit is damn near impossible to kill.

I told her that the Cleocin will be my last resort.

Also, read this woman's story. I did read this entire thread but can't remember if what she dealt with was mentioned here or not.

http://hpvsupport.com/viewtopic.php?t=6953...erial+vaginosis

Also, do a search for bacterial vaginosis on that board. Apparently its pretty common with those with HPV.

Sorry ladies. We had storms here last night and I lost my internet service until now. I didn't ask my doctor about the Clindamycin. I know a lot of you are worried about that...maybe someone else with an appointment soon could ask? Sorry again.
As for me, she told me that the "wiff test" came out good...no smell. She then looked under the microscope and said that she could see what might be the beginning of a BV infection, but not serious yet...well, the fact is it never really went away in the last year, but she seems to think I'm dealing with normal discharge...it's NOT normal!
Anyway, she wrote me a prescription for MetroGel. Gave me 3 refills and told me to use it just once a week for 2 or 3 months, instead of the normal full week of 5 to 7 days in a row. I told her the MetroGel hasn't worked for me since the first time I used it, but she seems to think using it this way will keep me in balance. She also told me I could use probiotics, but by the time they get to where they need to be, it's not as helpful as you might wish because a lot of it is destroyed in the stomach acid (even though they claim to have coating to prevent that).
She told me that the HP washes are ok to do, not harmful, but they could dry me out (haven't had that problem) and not to do it too often because too much could throw me off balance as well. She said that she doesn't reccomend using Rephresh because that can dry you out too. She also told me the usual, not staying in a wet bathing suit, no baths, no soap down there...same old same old...nothing new. Sorry I can't be more help.

Arj75: Has your town ever heard of HIPPA? Damn, people are soooo insensitive these days. Not only do you have to worry about the damn discharge but now you have to worry about folks thinking you have HIV. People think this shit is funny but it's honestly not. I had a rumor started about me like that and I wanted die but after a while I just said fuck it. Who cares!

Same here girlfriend! Especially since I lost weight dramatically after having my son. Via C-section...I wonder, would my BV be worse if i had given birth vaginally?

I have a new BV treatment option that I like. I thought I could share it with you ladies. I was talking to a friend who is very fond of the lemon juice/cayenne/maple syrup fasts for flushing out the system, and I thought the acidity of the lemon juice may be of help to me(of course nix the sugar because that wouldn't help at all).
So, I'm not fasting, but I have been eating no/low sugar diet....and I am drinking lots of very lemony water, which I find quite yummy, and I feel better!! I was itchy and uncomfortable 2 days ago, and a few bucks worth of lemons and I swear I feel a difference. I can see how the vitamin c plus the acidity are both helpful in fighting BV. I am traveling in asia so my treatment options are really limited. But when life gives you lemons!!

I also am using garlic clove suppositories, which is another way of reducing symptoms. So, anyway, if people are looking for non-antibiotic remedies this might be one of them worth trying. It's cheap and natural: Garlic and lemons. I am going to add some hot pepper to the lemon juice if I can tolerate it, because that is supposed to also really help. I will give an update on how well it works in the longer term.

Thats something i never heard of! But it sounds like it's worth a try. Besides what could we possibly lose? I'm a little confused though because I thought lemon is alkaline once it enters the body not acidic. Can you explain this better to me?

sorry if someone already posted this but i found a site that ships the fem-dophilus in an iced package. this is the link:

http://www.iherb.com/store/ProductDetails....p;pid=JRW-03005

it's also cheaper than what you posted as the price on your blog, lori. and thanks for your answers about the refrigerater stuff. smile.gif i'll probably just buy it from here though.

That is awesome, anitsirhc! I've been looking for something like that. The best I found online was at www.n101.com (they also stored it in the fridge and shipped it in a cold-pack) which I posted in this board, but for some reason I left it out of my blog. Brain fart.

The price here is even better. I think I will buy mine from here in the future, too. Thanks!

Has anyone tried oatstraw tea?

No. Do I drink it, or douche with it? (One can never tell tongue.gif )

STOP THINKING ABOUT YOUR VAGINA. I know it's hard because it's burning and everything, but just don't think about it before the appointment. The more you think about it, the more you obsess, and the more you go on crazy freak-outs. It's totally useless, because there's nothing you can do until you see your doctor.

Think about shopping. Or watch a good movie. Give yourself a makeover. I don't know what relaxes you, but you know what I mean.

If you absolutely can't stop thinking about it, as bvgirl suggested, type out all your concerns and questions so you can bring it with you when you go to your dr's appointment.

Most definately! I couldn't agree more with this answer. The best thing to do is avoid thinking about BV at all costs. The only thing stress does is make matters worse. Tell me about it i've been taking Zoloft. & I owe it all to BV...Atleast it helps me cope with this shit!

I still can't stop my paranoid thoughts! Last night I went to a party with my boyfriend, and I felt so humiliated and disgusted with myself. The minute I walked in there everyone turned the other way. I got that feeling you get when you're in school and go sit in someone elses table and everyone rejects you. OR better yet when you get on the school bus and none of the kids want you to sit next to them. I was so ASHAMED! sad.gif *tears*

Q:Can anyone please tell me if I can use tampons? I can't stop the odor while using pads and this is bringing me down!

I also read somewhere else on the site that it shouldn't be prescribed for a first time diagnosis. Well my doctor prescribed it to me for my first time diagnosis! I could have had this beat with Flagyl the first time around and I'm so angry with my doctor. He's supposed to be one of the best where I live. I may not be here right now if it weren't for that God forsaken Clindesse!

Oh... why is it that this isn't shocking news to me? huh.gif Oh I know!... Maybe it's because Godamned doctors don't give a hoot about us! But i'll tell you what they really care about: MONEY! Come on, we all know he was aware of what medication to use! For crying out loud when are doctors going to stop being so fucking selfish! He knew that he was going to cause more problems than he would be solving. They just want us to keep coming back to them, desperate, seeking answers and obviously a decent cure. But that's not what they're giving us. We are their victims mad.gif !

anitsirhc, thanks for your kind words and support. I really needed that. As an update. I'm trying to be more positive and I hate to retract my statement earlier "I think the flagyl worked." Well, now I know it didn't work. The burning has returned and so has the discharge. The smell isn't so nice either. Can we say cheesy? lol. I'm all white and smelly down there. I know the Flagyl helped a great deal. But did it actually work. No. But I still want to hear it from my doctor. You think that maybe a longer course of the Flagyl will knock it out since it seemed to help so much in the first place?

And anitsirhc, about that site you posted, I'm pissed! lol. I just ordered over 45 bucks worth of Femdophilus from Vitacost and by the time they finally got to me the bottles were hot! I doubt this shit will work for me now.

Hi Morphia,
did you take the flagyl orally or vaginally, just wondering...

Good evening everyone,

maybe I'm just seeing things, but it looked as if he was offering to answer any questions or concerns that we may have, and he listed his info at the site. www.vaginosis.com

Good Night everyone.

Glad your feeling better ilovehim!

No, you're not just "seeing things", actually a few months ago, out pof desperation, I emailed him. I told him about my problems with b.v. Very nice of him, he replied. But like usual didn't give me much of a valid answer. I sent him a second e-mail and asked him if it would be of any benefit to me to insert yogurt vaginally. (At the time I had been doing this), but to my dismay he never replied to this question. It hurts me to recognize that even specialists in this disease are as clueless as we are! =(

they have this one too, Nature's Way Primadophilus Reuteri, i think someone talked about it on here before but not sure, i read about it somewhere else online.

http://www.iherb.com/store/ProductDetails....p;pid=NWY-15024

the site is http://www.iherb.com/store/ and they ship everything that needs to be refrigerated in an iced package so you should check it out if you can't find it like that in a store.

lori - in your blog you talk about buying things at whole foods refrigerated. i went to my whole foods today and i can't find anything like that refrigerated. i know since we don't go to the same one you can't really help me but do you have any idea where in the store it would be? maybe mine just doesn't have it. dry.gif

or does anyone know?

I looked for the product that I was interested in trying, and did a search online for a store closest to me that carried it. Then I called to see if they had it and if it was kept in cooler....

Where I shop, it is near the vitamins section - they also keep flax seed oil and other stuff in the fridge. Mine has a big sign that says "probiotics."

Ask someone who works there.

ok well i called my doctor to make an appointment hoping i could go in today or tomorrow cause i'm itching and burning like crazyyyy. i did have sex last night though like a stupid idiot so that could be why it's worse today. well anyway, they didn't have anything till monday so i just said screw it i'm not waiting and i went and bought yeast arrest. i was hesitant to try that cause i don't want to deal with it leaking out in the summer cause it's beach time but i figure if i'm going to the beach i just won't use it in the morning and wait till after instead. so i just started it now. i figure if i have a yeast infection or bv or both this will help anyway so what's the harm. if it doesn't start to go away then i will go to the doctor. i was going to use the flagyl vaginally but since i'm burning/itching i thought it probably wasn't a good idea. so i'll keep updating and let everyone know how the yeast arrest works for me. i've also been taking azo yeast and i think i will start to take garlic cause it's recommended on the yeast arrest instructions.

morphia, i can't believe how much you've been through. that's horrible. i know how you feel though freaking out about the bv. i've had mine since august and when i finally decided to take matters into my own hands instead of listening to the doctors and did some research online i found this. i started at the beginning and read almost all of it and i cried every time i read it (it took me a few days to get through all of it) because i was so scared reading that people have had this for years and still haven't found a way to get rid of it (when i read it nobody really had found anything that worked very well yet.) so i understand how scary it is to realize that it could be something permanent that you'll always have to deal with and that doctors screwed you over. but now, since i've been dealing with it for about 10 months i just kind of calmed down cause i realized there are ways to deal with it and keep it away even if i have to do something for the rest of my life to keep it gone (i know that doesn't sound so good either but it's better than having bv all the time.) so i'm sure you'll realize that eventually too, just keep reminding yourself you have to find what works for you. and you will find something eventually. i think when you start getting emotional and freaking out just try and think you will figure it out eventually, it's just taking time. maybe that can help you to calm down. hope this helps a little bit, hang in there.

Lori-
In regards to your BV blog, one thing I read on one of the many posts here was that Tetrasil ointment was recommended by several members. Having BV for 28 years myself, and willing to try anything, and have tried many many things, I tried this one. I bought it online, $26 with shipping. I tried it for the first time Monday. Inserted it several times monday and tues. Today, I think I am getting a raging yeast infection now. mad.gif
Now I will spend more money on an over the counter yeast cream, and then in a few days, be back to where I started, just minus approx $40 between the Tetrasil and the OTC yeast cream. (sigh) So......if you want to add this info to your blog, it may save another BV sufferer from the expense. My recommendation is: I DONT recommend it. So, I will continue to read the blogs and try things that seem promising to all of you, and hope and pray that something works. I just read an article in a health magazine that BV is THE MOST COMMON vaginal problem in women. Then why....WHY can't the Medical community find something that works other than the antibiotics? Ok, sorry to go on and on. But, I wanted to pass this on to you for your blog.
