Oooh, how did I miss this???

1. Where were you 5 years ago?

Just back from Scotland, living in my crappy old apartment, working same place.

2. 5 years ago, what did you think you'd be doing now?

I don't make plans or think that far ahead.

3. How close or far did you come to that mark?

N/A

4. Where do you think you'll be 5 years from now?

Working same place unless I get independently wealthy. Or fired.

5. When you were a little kid, what did you want to do for a living?

Paleontologist, psychologist, rock star

6. What was the last book you read all the way through?

Pursuit, by Thomas Perry, a really well-done thriller.

7. What was the last movie you saw in a theater?

Eastern Promises

8. Did you like it as much as you thought you would?

It was a good deal gorier than I expected but really good.

9. What is your favourite piece of furniture in your home?

either my rocking chair or The Celestial Desk, which started its life as a school desk until it was painted bright colors and collaged with hand-painted sun, star, moon, comet images.

10. What is your favourite piece of clothing from your teenage years?

I don't still own any of it, but I had a batik shirt that I loved to pieces. Literally.

11. What was the first record you ever bought with your own money?

?? "with my own money" - my first record was Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, which I probably bought with gift money.

12. What was the worst thing about your first paying job?

The low pay - otherwise I loved it (working in a florist shop.)

13. What's the best thing about your current job?

The cause (I work in women's health.)

14. Which long lost friend do you wish would find you on MySpace?

Don't do MySpace.

15. What physical trait do the bulk of your exes share?

Dark hair/eyes.

16. What does your hair look like right now?

Asymmetrical - shorter on the left than the right, smooth and sort of modified Betty Boop if I take the time to straighten it, wavy-curly if I don't.

17. What is your favourite insult?

Fuckwit, asshat, moron, dickweed, an enthusiastic "SUCK IT!" to people who piss me off (thank you, Kathy Griffin.)

9. What is your favourite piece of furniture in your home?
My grandfather's bookcase. Oh, and the bunny has his own little sofa which I adore.

oh oh oh! can I change my answer to #9 ? <said in best faux beatle-esque>

raisin's answer totally jogged my brain & I am much ashamed that I forgot the 'other man in my life.'
Bing Bong.
he is my German antique Grandfather clock.
he is tall & dark & has original brass workings and fragile swing arm & original leaded glass and is absolutely Magnificent in his simplicity. I'm still trying to research his exact origins but have narrowed it down to the Black Forest area and believe him to be one of only a few made by that artisan as he is numbered and signed.
frecklette & mr freckle mock him, but I know they are just jealous of the great bond he & I share.
I was so drawn to him that I dumbfounded the mr by not only producing the money (in cash euro's) for him from a hidden spot, but to then admit I had been saving it to pay for a suprise trip to ireland but this was more important to me.
I don't even like clocks like that as an overall rule, but he & I have a sort of kismet to fulfill I am sure.

1. Where were you 5 years ago?
Abroad, in school (again).

2. 5 years ago, what did you think you'd be doing now?
I thought if I was lucky to be done with school, I'd be working as an interpreter for the UN.

3. How close or far did you come to that mark?
I went in a completely different direction.

4. Where do you think you'll be 5 years from now?
Ooh, I have some big ideas up my sleeve and I'd rather not jinx it by spilling it. (Sorry, Busty)

5. When you were a little kid, what did you want to do for a living?
Writer. That was the only thing I ever imagined myself doing.

6. What was the last book you read all the way through?
(I've read so many half-books in the meantime) Eat, Pray, Love. I have conflicted opinions about the book (I really wanted to 100% love it) and how the author had enough $ from Coyote Ugly to go around the world for a year. Loved the Italian section for the pure pleasure-seeking goodness; couldn't relate to the meditation stuff.

7. What was the last movie you saw in a theater?
I honestly don't remember. It's been at least 2 years since I was in a theater. I hate how people are so rude, so I avoid the theater most of the time now -- I make exceptions on special occasions. But movies don't really do anything for me anyway, unless they are the old classics (which I totally swoon over... mmm, Cary Grant).

8. Did you like it as much as you thought you would?
N/A

9. What is your favourite piece of furniture in your home?
My grandfather's bookcase. Oh, and the bunny has his own little sofa which I adore.

10. What is your favourite piece of clothing from your teenage years?
My Guess? denim jacket that I turned into wearable art, and all of the Esprit clothes I "modified" as well.

11. What was the first record you ever bought with your own money?
I am ashamed to say that THIS IS SO SAD THAT I DON'T REMEMBER! My own money? It may have been Duran Duran, but I can't confirm it. It may have been Heart.

12. What was the worst thing about your first paying job?
No complaints, I was a kid and Pa Raisin was my boss and on the weekends when I worked, for a special treat we'd actually leave the office to get lunch from McDonald's. Hahah! Such a novelty. Chicken nuggets and french fries and a root beer, I lived for that shit. Livin' large.

13. What's the best thing about your current job?
I have to speak in very general terms here and say being an influence to colleagues who dream of someday doing my job, wanting to know what I did to get there and encouraging them and cheering them on.

14. Which long lost friend do you wish would find you on MySpace?
NOBODY. I fucking hate MySpace, even though I'm on it. I have long lost friends that I know would find me through other ways, like through our parents or schools or mutual friends. I kind of wonder from time to time what Audrey is doing, she was a girl in elementary school whose father was a diplomat and they moved all around the world every year.

15. What physical trait do the bulk of your exes share?
Inferiority complexes. I can't think of a shared physical trait except...... no tattoos?

16. What does your hair look like right now?
Long layers, curly, its natural color. I'm trying to grow it longer and haven't had it cut in about 8 months.

17. What is your favourite insult?
It's a tie between asshole and fucktard.

Bwahahaha!! I'm lovin' hearing about everyone's first albums and first jobs!!! There were so many responses that cracked me up that I can't even post em all!! Shit. I love that all of FJ's former loves share a "broken heart!!" Damn!!

Zoya, I love that your first album was Journey's "Escape!!" Did you buy it on vinyl? Just so ya know, original Escape tour t-shirts sell for buttloads on ebay. I'm sure early Escape vinyl presses would do very well, too, but only for the diehards. Check the press number. /music nerdiness.

I love all of the Madonna-related posts!! Culture wanted to be Madonna!! That's so cute!!

Okay.

1. Where were you 5 years ago?
Graduated from college, moved into poodlepad, adopted kitties, already working at lameass appraisal job that I'm still doing.

2. 5 years ago, what did you think you'd be doing now?
Graduate school for urban design or urban planning, in some other part of the country besides Minnesota.

3. How close or far did you come to that mark?
Completely opposite!! I'm still in Minnesota and I looove it!! No plans for grad school, either.

4. Where do you think you'll be 5 years from now?
Still living in the new Poodlepalace, maybe with a special man friend

5. When you were a little kid, what did you want to do for a living?
Architect. I even went to school for it, but then I decided that I didn't want to design office buildings for the rest of my life. Now I just appraise them.

6. What was the last book you read all the way through?
Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs: A Low Culture Manifesto by Chuck Klosterman. Pretty funny. I loved the Saved by the Bell chapter.

7. What was the last movie you saw in a theater?
Knocked Up...with my mom.

8. Did you like it as much as you thought you would?
No. It probably didn't help that my mom was there.

9. What is your favourite piece of furniture in your home?
50's formica table with green felt gambling table underneath--perfect for making apple pies and then playing bridge with the neighborhood housewives afterwards.

10. What is your favourite piece of clothing from your teenage years?
Puke green, holey cardigan sweater

11. What was the first record you ever bought with your own money? Indigo Girls "Rites of Passage"

13. What's the best thing about your current job?
My own office with two 18-foot windows

14. Which long lost friend do you wish would find you on MySpace?
I've found most of the long-lost highschool friends I care about on MySpace, but I'd love to come across a couple college friends.

1. Where were you 5 years ago?
Living in Germany, pre-packing to return to the States: taking last minute trips to France & Poland and Ireland, so I could shop shop shop & get it all included w/ our household goods shipment on the boat back.

2. 5 years ago, what did you think you'd be doing now?
I think I honestly thought I'd be saving the world in small increments, helping one woman at a time.

3. How close or far did you come to that mark?
umm, I burned out BIGTIME about 2 years ago and have done little "good" sinse then, but am beginning to reorganize myself. into what I'm still not sure.

4. Where do you think you'll be 5 years from now?
Looking at the mr's retirement from the Army & the infinite possibilites of true freedom to live where WE want (as opposed to the needs of the Army) which is anywhere from KY to somewhere on the coast (beach side) or maybe we/I'll open up that quaint little book store on the shores of Lake Michigan I've always dreamed about...
I really dig the "we"- ness of being married lately and kinda dig the idea that he & I might open up some sort of business together in the future.

5. When you were a little kid, what did you want to do for a living?
at 5 it was a toss up between nurse & ballerina, bc I dug the cute little hat & the tutu. by age 8 it was a classical flutist.

6. What was the last book you read all the way through?
'Eva Moves the Furniture.' kinda spooky in the way of that movie w/ nicole kidman ' the Others' a good read!

7. What was the last movie you saw in a theater?
Pirates #2.

8. Did you like it as much as you thought you would?
not as good as #1 I didn't think, but I'd watch jonny depp on screen doing absolutely no-thing and still be utterly happy

9. What is your favourite piece of furniture in your home?
too tough, I'm a furniture freak; my antique rocker maybe? every stick in my home is meaningful, so I'll have to go w/ my wall colors, which are vibrant green and white & yellow and blue- so far!

10. What is your favourite piece of clothing from your teenage years?
vintage men's fedora & short gloves; I wore those everywhere & looked damned cute.

11. What was the first record you ever bought with your own money?
probably something by James Galway the flutist; I recently replaced my old albums of his for cd's.

12. What was the worst thing about your first paying job?
sticky pennies and nickles and dimes dropped onto the candy counter at the old movie theater; that & having to take the money upstairs to the projection room in the dark when the flickery reel to reel movie was running.. the owner collected stuffed pheasants & they were *everywhere* * I'd bump into them & want to scream every time I went up there.

13. What's the best thing about your current job?
ha. I guess I'd have to say 'the hours & the ability to fart around whenever I want.'

14. Which long lost friend do you wish would find you on MySpace?
I don't have a MySpace page.

15. What do all your exes have in common?
I've been married a zillion years now, but I'd have to say intelliegence, esp the mr. ( or maybe he's just the biggest smart-Ass? wink.gif )

16. What does your hair look like right now?
between chin & shoulder legnth smooth bob, brown w/ growing out platinum & reddish highlights .everyone says it still looks great but I'm soon to get several inches lobbed off and then reconsider the coloring again, maybe red? auburn? totally platinum? depends on my mood in the moment.

17. What is your favourite insult?
fucker. (said w. a sneer)

Mmmm, yeah, I suppose.

9. What is your favourite piece of furniture in your home?

My butter-yellow colored leather sofa. It fits me perfectly.

10. What is your favourite piece of clothing from your teenage years?

I have no idea. Maybe my stiletto boots.

11. What was the first record you ever bought with your own money?

Blondie..can't remember the album name but it had "the tide is high" and "rapture" on it.

12. What was the worst thing about your first paying job?

Working in a sweater/textile mill for piece rate. You had to work your fingers to the bone, practically, to make minimum wage. And it was so hot my fingernail polish would melt if it were applied within 24 hours of a shift.

13. What's the best thing about your current job?

Freedom, I float all over campus without a boss watching me. Money. Instant gratification. Not having to dress up. Being able to have a nose piercing. Looking at all the hottie college aged boys. Using skills that I worked hard to develop.

14. Which long lost friend do you wish would find you on MySpace?

L.L.

15. What do all your exes have in common?

Um...they all had both eyes, still?

16. What does your hair look like right now?

Badly in need of a cut/color, brown roots appearing in red-dyed hair. Money's tight right now. Ponytails are the rule of the day.

17. What is your favourite insult?

One of them's long but worth it: "He's so full of himself he cries out his own name when he's masturbating" The other one is simply, "shitbag"

Let the procrastination continue...

1. Where were you 5 years ago?

Same city, freelancing and madly in love with the mister.

2. 5 years ago, what did you think you'd be doing now?

Ideally making a decent living from features writing online and in print.

3. How close or far did you come to that mark?

Still do the freelancing but have made a swerve back into academia.

4. Where do you think you'll be 5 years from now?

Hopefully in another city, writing and researching, with the mister and my doctorate! If I could produce/present my own arts show on the radio that would be a bonus.

5. When you were a little kid, what did you want to do for a living?

A writer and/or an actor.

6. What was the last book you read all the way through?

Re-read The Long Falling by Keith Ridgway, set in Dublin.

7. What was the last movie you saw in a theater?

Michael Clayton, for reviewing.

Yes. Smart film.

9. What is your favourite piece of furniture in your home?

My stereo, my Tivoli radio and my laptop.

10. What is your favourite piece of clothing from your teenage years?

Yikes. Where to start? I had a great little secondhand army jacket I wore for years.

11. What was the first record you ever bought with your own money?

Um. Xanadu. I was very young.

12. What was the worst thing about your first paying job?

I didn't yet hate working in customer service, so not too much. My boyfriends/flings used to track me down at work though.

13. What's the best thing about your current job?

Fluidity. Genuinely enjoying the work itself.

14. Which long lost friend do you wish would find you on MySpace?

Probably an ex or two.

15. What physical trait do the bulk of your exes share?

Brainy, thinnish and creative.

16. What does your hair look like right now?

Back to what appears to be my natural colour, browny-blonde (haven't seen it in years) and layered. Needs a cut.

17. What is your favourite insult?

Asswipe. Fucker. Inbred shithead.

Ooh! Fun narcissim! wink.gif

1. Where were you 5 years ago?

Living here but rarely home: dating a woman 4 hours away, trying to build a province-wide coalition of women's organizations, running an electronic activists' network, and protesting the government at every opportunity.

2. 5 years ago, what did you think you'd be doing now?

Living under a different provincial government who would hire me to consult on women's equality issues.

3. How close or far did you come to that mark?

I'm unemployed and I hope to never have to work for a non-profit again, 'cause it almost killed me. Literally.

4. Where do you think you'll be 5 years from now?

A rock star. At least, on a local level.

5. When you were a little kid, what did you want to do for a living?

I wanted to be Wonder Woman or a singer.

6. What was the last book you read all the way through?

Just about finished re-reading The Mists of Avalon. Last one before that was...um...The Chrysalids, I think. Another re-read.

7. What was the last movie you saw in a theater?

I don't even remember - how pathetic is that?

8. Did you like it as much as you thought you would?

See above.

9. What is your favourite piece of furniture in your home?

Changes daily, depending on what weird arrangement I'm concocting. Actually, my next piece of furniture is always my favourite.

10. What is your favourite piece of clothing from your teenage years?

My Iron Maiden t-shirt from the "Piece of Mind" tour.

11. What was the first record you ever bought with your own money?

The soundtrack from the Broadway musical, Annie.

12. What was the worst thing about your first paying job?

Tie: getting up at 5:30 AM/working for an evil/crazy/dysfunctional family.

13. What's the best thing about your current job?

Not having one, my favourite thing is not having to get up early.

14. Which long lost friend do you wish would find you on MySpace?

Presuming that I were on MySpace, my best friend from grades 5 - 10, Rhonda.

15. What physical trait do the bulk of your exes share?

Androgyny.

16. What does your hair look like right now?

Overgrown, growing out fuzzy from when it was falling out, kind of wavy, dyed red and fading a bit - kind of wild and unruly. Honestly, I have no idea what my hair is doing.

17. What is your favourite insult?

Tie: "ya bastard" / "dumbass" / "fucking wanker"

1. Where were you 5 years ago? Living with my parents, had one year of working in customer service at an insurance company behind me (and another 4 years ahead of me *shudder*), dating LeBoy for a little over a year, with a disposable income (oh how I miss thee!)

2. 5 years ago, what did you think you'd be doing now? I thought I'd be not in my parent's house, married, with a job I liked

3. How close or far did you come to that mark? Not in parent's house, in a job I pretty much like, not married.

4. Where do you think you'll be 5 years from now? Married, possibly still at this job, in a real house

5. When you were a little kid, what did you want to do for a living? Teacher, something with animals or Murphy Brown

6. What was the last book you read all the way through? I *finally* finished Harry Potter 7 yesterday

7. What was the last movie you saw in a theater? Once

8. Did you like it as much as you thought you would? It was pretty good.

9. What is your favourite piece of furniture in your home? My purple-y Oriental rug

10. What is your favourite piece of clothing from your teenage years? My Hole t-shirt, Cobain-esque cardigan, Chuck Taylors

11. What was the first record you ever bought with your own money? Hungry For Stink, L7

12. What was the worst thing about your first paying job? I worked at Fannie May Candies and I was (and still am) horrible at making change. We had an old cash register that wouldn't tell you how much you needed, so I was constantly giving people the wrong change and they weren't happy about it.

13. What's the best thing about your current job? They don't care how much I'm on the internet, as long as I get my work done.

14. Which long lost friend do you wish would find you on MySpace? Mmm, I don't know if there's anyone I want to find me. Seeing as how I have almost no identifiable information on my account, they'd really have to try.

15. What physical trait do the bulk of your exes share? A good sense of humor is what they've all had in common.

16. What does your hair look like right now? Roots showing (but I'm waiting 2 more months to color it because I had a bad allergic reaction last time), bangs for the first time in 15 years that are still a work in progress.

17. What is your favourite insult? Ass-monkey, crap-weasel....some very non-P.C. ones like humanist when I'm driving.

You went to school where you were taught to fear and to obey, be cheerful, fit in, or someone might think you're weird.
Life can be perfect. People can be trusted. Someday, I will fall in love; a nice quiet home of my very own.
Free from all the pain. Happy and having fun all the time.
It never happened, did it?
