I just wanted to add this information which I found on a website: Oral Contraceptives "Some research shows that women who use oral contraceptives may be at a higher risk for developing cervical dysplasia. However, it is not clear if the risk is directly attributable to the contraceptives themselves. One reason may be that oral contraceptives interfere with folic acid metabolism in the cells around the cervix, and folic acid may help prevent or improve cervical dysplasia. Another reason may be that women using this method of birth control may have increased exposure to sexually transmitted diseases, compared to those who rely on a barrier method such as a condom." http://www.womenshealthchannel.com/cervica...sia/index.shtml I dont know if any of you ladies where also diagnosed with cervical dyplasia / HPV..I know I was.. |

Sorry to hear about that Piano Girl. I don't want to say that Folic Acid is working as of yet. The Boric Acid is really the only thing that works. I do the Boric twice a week with Folic and B-6 everyday. I had sex two nights ago and I didn't smell a thing, however, he said he did but very faintly. (I THINK HE WAS SMELLING HIS OWN ASS!!) LOL hahahahahha! Don't you just hate when men do that?! Anyway as I suspected the smell was there, my BF and I had sex. Thanks again Ladies.. PG Hey Ladies, Haven't been on in a while. School has consumed my life. Anyways, Can anyone let me in on wut the deal is with the folic acid? One of the ladies on this board recommeded this...perhaps recurring BV is a vitamin deficency.....also some of these ladies including myself started to get BV when on BC pils and BC pills might actually strip away that vitamin....I guess you know how doctors recommend pregnant women take folic acid, perhaps when on BC pills we lost alot of it...or if you werent on BC pills it could just be something random that happened, in any event for some its working...I just started on friday with an extra strength Foic Acid Pill ( vitamin Good Luck! PG PS Also the other lady whom used to post here alot "chachaheels" or something recommened that we visit holistic doctors and I did and spent almost $300..I would suggest that niether of you waste your money or your time... Here is the link of the place I went to: http://gawain.membrane.com/naturopathic_medicine/index.html |

The folic acid is working for me. I used to have so much discharge that I would change my panty liner twice during the day and now I don't even have to wear one. I'm not sure why it works, but I'm very happy about it!

Hey girls. My doctor said I was BV free. But I am awaiting its return. I have started taking folic acid and B 12. Is it the B6 that I am supposed to be taking?
Yea for those of you who are getting a handle on it! Has anyone tried the Vagisil Screening Kit? I keep seeing ads for it and it’s a screening kit you can use at home to determine if you have a yeast infection, BV or something else. I have been to about 10 different stores looking for it. The last commercial I saw gave the web site www.vagisilkit.com On the site it says it’s in limited release in a few cities including Jacksonville, FL which I am near. I am going to go to Jax tomorrow and look for it. Just wondering if anyone else has tried it and how it was. If I get my hands on one, I will report back my findings. I am so annoyed with my doctor. I don't think he gives a crap about BV and he thinks I am a weirdo for still having a problem with it. If I get any hint that it is on its way back I am going to do the Peroxide douche. I have never done a douche before and would really appreciate if someone would tell me *exactly* how to do it. Also, what is not good about a multivitamin? Thanks in advance, Sara |

Well I have been off the boric for about 5 days and just inserting the vaginal probiotic 2 x a day as recommended but a faint smell has returned. I think this "holistic doctor" was a load of crap....I am so disappointed with this....any way I am going to start the folic acid since I hear it is working pretty good.
I just wanted to share this and I went to a holistic doctor and spent close to $300 on crap.....they are just like our gyns, they know s%&t.. I think they like to ask alot of questions, like what do you eat etc so they blame it on something b/c they dont know themselves... Thanks PS I have not been having sex.. |

The only I could find was this...It discusses cervical dyplasia and how folic acid and vitamin B can help it. I was diagnosed withcervical dyplasia after I go off BC pills, however I do not believe that everyone here has cervical dyplasia.. http://www.thenutritionreporter.com/womans...lth_primer.html |

I take one 800mcg of folic acid in the morning. Yes, the boric acid is nice but it doesn't work forever, at least not for me, and its kind of annoying to do all the time because it gives a really bad water-like discharge as it cleans things out. It might work for matinence, though. I think we're on to something here with the supplements. I mean, how could taking folic acid for a week clear up BV? It doesn't make sense to me...why wouldn't the doctors not know if BV was linked to a lack of a certain vitamin in your body? Anyone have any ideas as to why it helps?

Thank you so much for all the information.
Right now I am still doing what my holistic doctor recommended and dont have any smell. However I just gotr off the boric and am now just doing the vaginal probiotic suppositories in addition to some hormone pills and flax oil. I am hoping that this works, I will give myself a week if all fails i will do the folic...you girls are amazing and smart. Thank you for all your help and advice...hopefully we will soon all be back to normal and can advise other sufferers on treatment alternatives for this horrible, sad issue. |

Pianogirl - I take two pills to get my folic, one thats just 400mcg I got to suppliment the B-complex vitamin I also take since it only has 400 mcg and someone was saying to take 800 mcg a day. The second pill also has a varitety of b-vitamins plus C and A or E or something.
I finished all my metrogel and I bought some kiefer at whole foods the other day to hopefully counteract the antibiotics. I'm thinking I should also use a vaginal probiotic too (?). It's been about a week on the folic but I got my period on sunday so we'll see how this all plays out in the end. I hope the folic works as well for me as it has for so many others. fingers crossed! I'm happy for you sassy, hope it keeps up. The boric after sex sounds like a good idea, i've been trying to think of a good way to maintain once i get rid of this... |

The smell is almost gone now...barely there. I haven't had any discharge all day so apparently the folic acid has started to kick in after only using it for one week. I'm so excited! I hope things stay this way. Wouldn't it be really stupid if all this BV nonsense was caused by something as fixable as a deficiency of folic acid in our bodies? I know some of you have tried it without any help but it obviously has something to do with this because it's helped several girls on here. I don't really understand it myself. I'm still going to use the boric acid after sex for a little while to hopefully keep things okay. I'm being hopeful, though.

I've been taking the folic acid for about a week and I hadn't noticed any differences until this morning. My smell was definately getting a lot less noticeable and my discharge is white and sticky instead of my usual yellow, thin discharge I have with BV. I hope this means that the folic acid is going to continue to work!! I just take one folic acid pill a day when I eat breakfast. It said on my bottle to take it with food. I bought it at Walmart for less than $3.

Ladies! I came across this Lounge when my bv acted up again two weeks ago, desperately searching for answers. Thank you, you were helpful and it was great to know I wasn't alone. What's working right now for me: I think the folic acid. I've been taking it for probably a week now and my bv seems gone. And of course, since I never try new routine in a controlled sort of way to exactly pinpoint what works, I am also eating more yogurt and did a few yogurt inserts, so it could be a combination. But I've done yogurt before and the folic acid is new. Also for those who mention smoking, I have found that smoking totally affect my bv. When I quit for a few months earlier this year, it was so much better (but not gone). Now I smoke on occasion with smoking friendly, and whenever I do, I can smell it, and not just smoke in my hair. Someone mentioned coffee too which I am comtemplating cutting down on. Good luck everyone. I'll keep you posted if there are any changes. Could you ladies tell me how do you take the folic acid? How many per day etc? |

I apologize If I offended anybody. I really didn't mean it like that. I was just trying to explain "my" situation and why I have not tried the product. I totally understand how all of us feel on this thread. It's horrible and really does have an effect on our lives. I wish us all the best and hopefully we can all find a cure:)

So I kinda have to eat my words, turns out the cancer in rats thing is in the metrogel insert. Must of missed that one...
fedup - sex is dicouraged during all forms of treatment i think. I was always told that I couldn't have ANYTHING in the vag during treatment periods. I guess my last doc took pity on me when he said I could use tampons and have sex when he perscribed the 6 week thing. So i guess it's up to you. If you can hold out it can't hurt, might help. Neverending - isn't the hormone thing supposed to take a long time to work? or maybe I'm thinking probiotics... eitherway I agree with jewels. when it come to hormones I'd rely on the doc for advice. Speaking of probiotics, I want to use them again when the metrogel is gone (like 2 days). How many of you have problems with probiotics making symptoms worse? A few have mentioned it but it still just doesn't make sense to me |
