What was that herbal antidepressant pill everyone was talking about here?

Are you talking about St. Johns's Wart? - supposedly helps with mood regulation
Flaxseed oil - same claim
Someone else mentioned Chasteberry - for hormone balance...I've never tried it..

These here..not sure if considered "herbal"

L-tyrosine - alleviates stress by boosting production of adrenaline. It raises dopamine levels which influence moods - can't take if on other MAO inhibotor drugs. Suggests to take on an empty stomach with 50 mg of B-6 and 100-500 mg of vitamin C for better absorbtion, best taken at bedtime

S-adenosylmethionine - works as an antidepressant - DO NOT use if you have manic depressive dissorder or taking other anti-depressants

Vitamin B complex injections 2 cc once weekly or as prescribed by physician (if depression is severe)

follic acid 400 mcg daily - found to be deficient in people with depression

Neverending- was your doctor concerned about your low oxygen levels? Do you suffer from kidney stones as well? They hurt like a bitch! Been several years since I have had those....

Does anyone know this...I thought b-complex was basically only B-12? What all is in B-complex? I'm guessing it's called complex for a reason as just one vitamin really can't be considered "complex"...my doctor mentioned that I could try this...but he doesn't think I'm depressed, just a stressed out sally attitude which has caught up with me.

Anyways, I'm back to seeing to my doctor that I liked, he has another year before retirement, but he isn't a gyno now, once was however, but he does what ever I ask, now I need to know what to ask for. He wanted to do a stress test on my heart, because my T-waves were abnormal (influenced by oxygen levels) on the ECG, but it's expensive, time consuming, and you gotta exercise. I can't run around the block, much less last 3 minutes on the tread mill. I promised him that after the first frost, (don't want the allergy and smokers film cough doubled up on me) that I would quit smoking AGAIN, and we have a bet riding on it. I joined the YMCA a year ago, and have been paying, but only have I went one time. Who has the time to do all of this crap? I'm on a boycott from vitamins, probiotics, and shoving anything up my snatch. I think my cervix are infected again...someone asked about gritty blood....I have that for about 4 or five days after intercourse. What's that all about, and how is that considered normal???

Yeah its the same peroxide you buy for about $1/bottle at the drug store or grocery. I don't use it every day. I use it for about 3 days in a row when I shower and then stop for about a week or so or until i notice something funky (no pun intended) going on down there. I noticed my urine smells a lot stronger for a couple of days afterward. almost like metallic or something. I didn't notice any discharge. I did have a warm sensation with foaming coming out of my vagina one time. i think that's when i had some baceteria up there but haven't noticed it since. i think almost immediately the smell went away. hope it works for you!

FC

One more question please: I know that you said that you use a child's syringe. How many syringes full of peroxide to you "flush" with at a time?

Thanks,
Stacy

Hi Everybody!

I have not posted here before, but I have read this forum when I found it for hours and hours on end and just want to thank everybody on here for their bravery in sharing their stories. There is so little information out there, and no doctor has any answers and I too was taking flagyll over and over and over again. Thank god I live in Canada and I don't have to pay for the visits, but the time and money spent on the refills and just feeling like a freak show was really getting to me emotionally. A few times I just broke down and cried in the doctors office and they said "It is obviously affecting you emotionally" No kidding!!

I am 33 (just turned) years old and have been suffering from the re-occuring BV for 3 years. The first time I had it was when I was about 21. One prescription cured it then, until age 30. Then along with a new boyfriend came BV. I have been very lucky with him because he has been great. But treatment, after treatment, it just kept coming back almost quicker and worse than before everytime we had sex. (I have had a minimum of 30 refills and that's a low estimate) At first a condom seemed to help, but then after a while even the condom didn't work. Then even (ahem) oral and absolutely no sex was triggering it. I was nearing the end of my rope. I am not kidding. I researched as much as possible and started taking the acidophilus with bifidus capsuls with 500mgs of vitamin C orally. Maybe a small difference. But then the same. It was on here I read about the guy with the Vitamin B6. I ran out and got it about a month ago. Since then Nada. I have had sex with him at least 10 times so far, (with a condom though) knock on wood, and it hasn't come back yet. I just had to share that with everybody in case that can help one person. It is worth a try. The relief I feel even with a condom is amazing. I will eventually try without, but I am just enjoying this freedom for now. And I don't want to jinx it. Also the longer I can stay away from the flagyll the better.

I will keep you posted if there are any changes, but I have a great feeling with this Vitamin B6. 100 mg in the morning and 100 mg at night. I still take a 500 mg vitamin C when I think about it, and the Acidophilus, but it is random. Just the B6. I don't know if that is a cure or not or exactly what it does (balance your hormones?) but it works. And I have read that drinking alcohol leaches Vitamin B6 out of your system, so if you have drinks, make sure to take an extra. I do.
I have also taken one flagyll pill after sex, (doc's recommendation) I'm sure a few of you won't like that, but I'd rather that to keep the invaders away then a full blown infection.

I just had to share because this is the best I have felt in 3 years and I owe it to this forum. When I was here last I was desperate and close to breakdown and all of you women (and man) actually made me crack a smile and god-forbid even laugh out loud. I am praying for you all. Good-Luck!! I am sure they will come up with a cure someday, hopefully sooner than later!

Ok, you know me, Ms. Guinny Pig..... hahaha... so, anyways, I'm still waiting on the 500MG Flagyl to get here, so until then, my B.V. has been back with a vengeance. I did some research on the B6 vitamins, and said to my self, "Self, I wonder what would happen if I inserted this vaginally". Now remember, I had a hysterectomy, and I have NO CERVIX NO UTERUS, just my ovaries.

While reading, it seems that they use B6 for abortions, vaginally. WHY? I couldn't tell you, but thats some info I found. So, because I am unable to have any more children, I put the B6, just 1 tablet which was 50mg, in vaginally. Smell is gone today. I had alot of runny discharge this morning, like it was coming out, but, there was no odor to it. No other side effects, no itching, burning, anything from using the B6. I am also taking 100mg by mouth, and 1 Folic Acid, 800mg by mouth every night as well.

I think I will do 1 more tonight, since the pills are small, and it's a low dose. I will keep you all posted!!

Firecrotch,
Thanks for your reply. I have a couple of more questions for you, if you don't mind. Are you continuously using the peroxide douche? Is the peroxide just the kind that you can buy at the drug store? Are there any other side effects? Thanks a bunch.

Stacy

virgin4life: I've had BV off and on for the past 8 years since I was 14. I didn't lose my virginity until I was 18 so for 4 of those years, I had BV without ever having had sex or any sexual contact. It usually does affect women who are sexually active, but I've talked to other virgins who had it and it really can affect anyone. I wish I could say more as to why a girl who has never had sexual contact or introduced someone else's bacteria into her vagina could get BV but I'm not really sure why it happens that way.

Hey all,

Haven't been on here in a while but still suffering with BV off and on. Quick question, a few months ago I read replies stating that Vitamin B6 was helping people in the search for their cure of BV. Is anyone still finding that successful? unsure.gif

I have been taking 100 mg of B6, a super B complex, and 1200 mg of folic acid. I am still having symptoms so I am not sure that it's working.

Hi Stacy
I've been using the hydrogen peroxide douche for about a month now. I started using 50% water 50% peroxide. then I just started using 100% peroxide. I use a baby oral syringe to insert it. it fits perfectly and easy to clean. But I found a reusable douche in one of the adult movie stores . dh bought me in there. i was wondering why it had a douche-anyway. I notice a much better feeling down there. like my vagina just gargled with mouth wash. I don't really have the smell or the discharge, just the irritation and burning like you. i used it for about every other 3 days and after we have sex. which i've only been feeling comfortable with since i started using the peroxide. i don't feel as self conscious.
i hope this helps you

Hello Ladies!!

seriously one of you guys should write a book on this! u all are plain genius!!!

Okay so i've had BV for 3 or so years. its neverrr gone away. i tried the folic acid--zip. nada no change what-so-ever. sad.gif then i tried the acidophilus--it def improved for a day or two, then an ammonia smell and back to hell. peroxide douche--so very annoying and smell always comes back. so i just have a few questions:

1.) Metronidazole--flagyl-- if i buy this off the internet is the generic just as good?? how much do i use, (vaginally or oral??), for how long?

2.) I've not had sex, hence the name, and fear i never will if this doesnt go away. so how did i contract this?? ugh. from what i've read it seems to be caused or irritated by having sex.

ANY MORE TIPS WOULD BE SO SO SO APPRECIATED!!! thankyou smile.gif

Morphia: When I go to the gyno, I always see a nurse practioner because I like her better than my doctor. She does pretty much everything the doctor does with the exception of surgical procedures (such as doing a LEEP procedure on your cervix, or delivering babies...). I find that nurse practioners are usually nicer and I can talk to them easier because some doctors I've been too have had that "Don't ask me any questions" type attitude.

Hello Everyone,
I am so frustrated and just want to cry! I was diagnosed with BV approximately 2 months ago and have had nothing but problems since. I have been on all the prescription meds that the doctors prescribed. Then I came onto a forum and started reading about probiotics. I tried the yogurt/probiotic mixture for about 1 1/2 weeks and symptoms stilled continued. Then I ordered Fem Dophilis. That helped and I actually tested Gardnerella/Candidas free shortly thereafter. But the burning around the vaginal opening continued, the discharge continued and the itching continued.

Now after a week of those symptoms, I have full blown irritation, discharge and a funky smell coming back. UGH!!!! I posted on the prior Forum site and nobody responded. So here I am.

I don't know what to do. Does anybody else have any other ideas of what to try. I've heard about Boric Acid...is that just for the smell or does it really treat the BV? At my wits end....
Claire

Ok. I NEED YOU GUYS TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS! Please? biggrin.gif Basically, I know that my bv is not gone. I also know that my strep is still around even though I cultured negative for it last time. I tried to make an appt. with my doc as soon as possible while my symptoms are at their worst and the soonest I could get in is on Thursday...with a Nurse Practitioner. The thing is I've never seen an NP before. Can anyone tell me what to expect? Do any of them know what they're doing? Can they take swabs to send off to be cultured in a lab or can they only take swabs for wetpreps? Thanks guys!

QUOTE(SSDPrice @ Sep 30 2007, 10:50 AM) *
Hello ladies,

I am new to this forum and I am very glad that I found it. I was diagnosed with my first case of BV in June. I have had 2 other bouts (the last one being about 2 weeks ago and I thought that I had it under control). I have taken Flagyl (had an allergic reaction), tried boric acid suppositories, Tindamax, Clindesse, and probiotics. I am at a total loss here. My husband and I have been using condoms since the beginning of August and I still seem to have an infection. (I am very concerned that I am going to have a lot of trouble when we decide to get pregnant.) My symptoms are a little different than others. I don't have the foul odor that some of you describe (I am very sorry to those that do). My symptoms are more external-burning and irritation around my vaginal entrance. My doctor had a local pharamacist compound me a vaginal relief cream (praxomine, hydrocortisone, and lidocaine) and that helps some.

I have always had a discharge and maybe all along I have always had BV; however, my now husband is the first man that I have ever had unprotected sex with (end of May), thus the BV. I realize that the issue is pH of the vagina. I have some Rephresh but haven't tried it yet, although I am not sure that it will help with an existing infection.

I read on another forum about vitamin B deficiencies causing hormone issues which could lead to vaginal issues (ex. BV). Now I am taking 100 mg of B6, a Super B Complex, and 1200 mg of folic acid along with a multivitamin per day. Oh, and I also take probiotics. (I tried Jarrow's Femdophilus and found that it didn't seem to help any better than Nature's Way Primdophilus Ruteuri). So, my last infection was diagnosed over 2 weeks ago. Used Clindesse and thought that I was on my way to BV freedom and BAM! Yesterday I started having symptoms again-external irritation, etc.

I have seen several posts about a hydrogen peroxide douche. Does this help? How do you mix the solution and what do you use to insert it? Is it safe? I have also read many places that say not to do this.

I hope that we can all keep our heads held high and not get discouraged. I hope that you all have wonderful, understanding partners like my husband. I will definitely be checking back often. Maybe we can support each other. Have a great day!

Stacy

Has anyone trued Femanol? I looked through the blog that was listed below but there uas no info on it.
It is just so expensive and I already spent the $ on Enzara not knowin it was a scam. It is wierd though because any reviews I find on line say that it works. Are those but out there by the company?

Also, I have noticed that people are saying that it sucks having to have their partner pull out. Am we the only people that do that normally? We have always done it that way even before the BV started. I mean everyonce in a while he wont but it doesn't make or break the sex for me or him. Just curious

Hey all~

eye'm back!

Italianwife88... haha! LOL. that's awesome! Sounds like you guys have a good relationship. smile.gif

Brandis... i would suggest Uva Ursi and cutting out sugar and processed food for a while. The Flagyl I don't think will
work, my doc told me it's a different type of infection. Are you using the unsweetened version of cranberry? "Just Cranberry"?
The regular stuff has loads of sugar, which feeds the infection. "Just Cranberry" is really really tart, but i make a cocktail with
orange or lemon seltzer water and it tastes better. Just gotta suck it up and suck it down. I'm used to it now.

As for me, I'm actually feeling better! (except today, but i cheated the last couple days and had wine and sugar. opps.)
But before that I was only noticing a teeny bit of bubbles and itching. I really think it has something to do with the oregano
oil/femdophilis mixture. AND of course, the diet. which is so hard to stay on. i'm going to stay on it until i feel completely better though,
it's worth it. and then hopefully ad in some treats here and there. I found an awesome bread (at least near me) that is yeast AND wheat free.
I don't eat a lot, but its deelish. Oh! And i saw my gyno today for something else and he said he didn't see anything that looked like an infection!
YEAH! First time in at least 2 years I've been to the doc and not had them say "you have BV aaand a yeast infection too. Take all these drugs. Again."

The one thing I'm noticing, as I get a LOT of UTI's (like give me 4 hours between the start of a burning sensation and peeing blood, lotsa hospital bills)
and something I'm taking is bothering my urethra. I'm thinking it's my multi though. It's super potent and maybe my body isn't processing
everything quick enough. Which is a BUMMER because otherwise it makes me feel great. sad.gif Time to find a new one I guess. Maybe something
liquid? Food based? Multiple does per day? Any suggestions?

Anybody know if the Flagyl I have ordered will help with a UTI or do I need to do something else? I have been drinking cranberry juice like crazy along with tons of water. I don't want to have to take another antibiotic, one is bad enough. Please Help!!!! ohmy.gif
