Very interesting discussion here about smallies in porn. You've all made some legit points. I have to say for sure I feel so much better about my breasts since I discovered this place. it's so much less of an issue for me now.
I was gymming last night and watching TV while on the treadmill (really the only time I do so) and there was yet another reality show about women getting boob jobs. Yes, they all said it was about "feeling good from the inside," and the end result made them feel so confident. But dang, I'd rather forgo the risk, expense, upkeep and all that rot and just feel good and confident in the first place. To each their own, though. |

Speaking of clothes, I think this kind of silhouette is flattering to my figure (and looks like it could be flattering to many different shapes). I don't have a dress like it, but I get the same effect from wearing a pencil skirt with a loose-ish tee or sleeveless blouse. It shows off the waist, hips, and legs and drapes nicely on top. It creates some mystery and is more flattering than a really tight top (on me at least). I also get a similar effect from a loose silk dress I have that ties at the waist.
Oh yeah, I loathe turtlenecks on myself. Maybe they're one of those things that are really best on "average" figures? I saw a really sophisticated wool turtleneck sweater dress, but I thought I'd look like too much of a stick in it. But then I thought it wouldn't really be flattering to the super-curvy ladies either. I pictured it on a classic beauty like Grace Kelly. ETA: Another reason I don't like turtlenecks is I don't really have a strong jaw. I literally look like a turtle in them. |

I dunno, but turtlenecks definitely look generally crappy on me... not my thing. I also like v-necks, and haaate scoop necks unless they are very tight, because otherwise I am showing the whole world my bra every time I lean over.
I'll keep saying till I'm blue in the face, as far as I've ever known it, confidence, intelligence, desire, good posture and good hygeine are the things guys really notice. Any body will look good in the right context and in clothes that fit.. guys want to have sex with a girl who's well, good at sex, not a girl who has a certain body type. Any guy who says or thinks otherwise is either a bit virginal, or has only had bad sex before and doesn't know the difference. Some guys may gravitate towards one type or another, but it varies.. as we can see by the variety in the porn industry! Also, my boyfriend just complained earlier today that all his friends have been accidentally mentioning how hot I am for the last few weeks. And my boobs haven't grown recently... so there just must be something other than boobs that guys like! |

Them too! T&S have strong feelings...
spot-on, a pussy-bow is a blouse with a big droopy bow in the centre of the neckline - I think they were popular the other year as part of 'secretary chic'. And T&S were against them for biggies, and for them for smallies (ditto tops that are ruffled or otherwise embellished in the booby region). I confess that in the early days of T&S I thought they were all-knowing gods and followed their rules religiously. -------------------- “Logic is the art of going wrong with confidence.”

I thought it was turtlenecks & pussybows that T&S were against?

As a bosomy lady, I stick to scoop necks and avoid v necks - v's definitely suit smallies better. And I believe that's also the official Trinny & Susannah line. *relurks* -------------------- “Logic is the art of going wrong with confidence.”

Oh I totally agree! Especially to be within an industry where it almost seems 'bigger is better' and sometimes the "faker the better". I applaud them all for not succumbing to implants in order to get ahead. I think you are right that this proves that it's not about the 'barbie look' it's about natural sex appeal, and it's nice to see that we smallies are represented, represented well, and that some smallies are successful in the industry too.
That's one reason I posted about the Pole dancing, because it tends to be the smaller boobied women that do well in that arena. Usually they are leaner, stronger, and have the gymnast/dancer bodytype which is usually small boobed. Also think about it, big boobs would get in the way so much when wrapping yourself around a pole surely? I wonder if there is a similar relationship in stripping? It's beleived that bigger boobs are better (for punters?), but I wonder really if they are? Isn't it all about confidence and sex appeal? Isn't THAT the turn on rather than just boobs, otherwise why bother with a strip club? Why not just buy a mag? So many questions.... Yep, and we've definitely gone over the smallie actress list in here before, which is great.
But I think it's a bit more effective in breaking that mental "boob/sex" equation when we're talking about porn stars because their appeal is all about sex and things like classic beauty, acting ability, etc are not a big part of the formula. We can rationalize the popularity of actresses by saying "Oh she's got such a pretty face" or "She's such a great actor" or "Her popularity is probably mostly with women not men" and in our dysfunctional little minds tell ourselves that those actresses are popular in spite of their small breasts. But with a successful porn star, none of that holds up. To be successful at that, men have to find your naked body sexy, period. Seeing successful porn stars who look like...well...us!...has been a great reality check. |

of course small can be sexy, look at all the actresses out there with smallies who continue to go from strength to strength. In fact I think they get taken more seriously with smallies, IMO. Kiera Knightly, Cameron Diaz, Kate Hudson, Claire Danes etc etc

Thanks, Chicaloca, and everyone who's mentioned small-breasted porn stars in here. I think it's really great to dismantle the rigid equation that so many of us have stuck in our brains, that in order to be sexy you have to have big boobs. Whether or not we like porn, by acknowledging the existance of successful porn stars who are small-breasted we have to acknowledge that our dysfunctional equation doesn't hold up - you don't get to be a porn star without people finding you sexy. It's a very nice concrete way to tell ourselves that yes, small boobs can be sexy...so sexy that folks will pay good money to see them. I think this discussion has been really healthy and illuminating and productive! Too bad I'm too old for a career in porn...kidding.

I found a porn star who, according to Wikipedia, wears a 32AA. She seems to be quite popular too, so I guess there really is a wide variety of bodies in porn. Her name is Melissa Ashley. I couldn't find any photo appropriate for posting, but a Google search (SafeSearch off, though) will return results.
I don't know... whith the recent discussion about porn stars I thought I'd bring it up. -------------------- Ocean child, calls me... |

He said a girl can be cute but not sexy, or sexy but not cute, but that the best for him was both. And how exactly is a female supposed to know which of the categories listed above she is in? I personally cannot accept (or have a hard time accepting) that it's impossible for me to be sexy. I would rather be with no one than with someone who won't have sex with me because I'm cute. It's all very frustrating. If I was cute and didn't like sex so much, then this wouldn't be a problem and I could be happy not being sexy at all. Too bad my brain and looks clash. As far as the porn goes, I don't really like the fake personalities that women have in videos. So I tend to like amateur better- people look real, and they look like they're actually enjoying themselves. Acted porn movies turn me off because the acting is so bad that it throws me out of the erotic headspace. Much like when men spit on women in porn. I can handle a lot, but the spitting just makes me go 'ick' more than some of the most hardcore sex stuff does. Don't know why. I'm not much for so-called 'erotic humiliation' though. |

Angie, I completely agree with your insight about the "barely legal" porn. Many of the guys I've been with fall into this category - they are attracted by sweet, playful, casual girls rather than "sophisticated", hard sex queens.
Along a similar line, I asked my bf the "cute vs. sexy" question the other night. Oy vey, the guy is overly analytical! So I won't go into it all here. But the basic concept was that he likes both, sees them as largely overlapping, but cute implies "pleasant, appealing, attractive" whereas sexy just makes you think of sex. He said a girl can be cute but not sexy, or sexy but not cute, but that the best for him was both. He said that "cute" also has a size component - "big" girls aren't usually cute. He also said the 99.9% of the time when a guy calls a girl "cute" it's a compliment and a come-on. Think about that, those of you who've been offended by being called "cute". Personally, I've been called cute a lot...and I don't mind a bit. As long as it's not like my boss saying it or something! Wow, everyone sure took off on the Sasha Grey thing! Thanks for all the interesting comments. I was a bit dismayed to find everyone comparing themselves to her in terms of "34B" etc - that was NOT something I expected. I had no idea of her measurements nor do I care to compare myself to her in that way. I was thinking more in terms of a very different perspective for a porn star - unaugmented, taking herself seriously, calling her own shots - and being intrigued by it. Now I have to look up all the other chicks you all mentioned! Fun stuff. And the pole dancing - yeah, I'd seen some of those videos and taken a couple classes myself. It's way harder than I expected! Pretty cool. I'd like to get good at it but man, it would take a lot of work. |

I don't think I have ever seen a woman's picture altered to make her look smaller breasted. I wonder if it has ever happened in the history of the universe.

Huh.. I have never heard of a "bralette" before. Those look more like, um, real bras. Anyways, thanks for the link, I love them! I'm home sick today and wasting time on my favourite websites... anyways, here's an example of more fake boobie photoshopping in the media Photoshopping Disaster |

Um, I now have reason to try Urban Outfitters! Such CUUUUTE bralettes!! And reasonably priced!
And I totally agree about the V-necks. I only wear V's--no crew necks, ever. The consensus seems to be (in the fashion mags, anyhoo) that "V-necks are for showing ample bosomy cleavage" but the truth is they are more flattering to me than any other neckline. Just goes to show--wear what you like, feel comfy in, and works well for you, |

that's the thing Aithinne, the reason I started thrifting was because my body shape was changing so fast and I got sick of buying clothes. Almost everything I bought earlier this year is too big. Including the summer shorts etc. Even though they are a womens Small. Not many places do an extra small in womens and honestly since I discovered juniors fit better I've been looking out for those brands rather than womens. I got some SO t-shirts for 99c each and figured if I wore them to bed they'd be worth it, well those are the tees I wear the most cos they fit perfectly. Even without a bra they look great
I agree on the cami's. which is strange because everything you read tells you not to get v necks if you are small in the chesticles department. I've always found a small v to be quite flattering for small busties. Did anyone watch "medium" the other week with the woman who faked her rape and husbands death? At the end she had on a smokin black dress that looked great on her (our) body shape. I just wanted to reach through the tv and rip it off her and shove it in my closet, lol. |
