to the women getting BV from "sex with an ex" - have the ex's been treated with flagyl? i'm just curious. also, i posted earlier about my sex history leading up to my first BV experience (basically got itchy with a new partner this past summer, then the next partner -virgin- came inside me and VOILA an intensely ammonia smelling infection) - but i read somewhere that the alkaline nature of semen can activate an underlying BV infection, so it looks like my theory was right. Basically got the BV from the first partner then the 2nd partner's semen triggered a crazy chemical reaction.

the flagyl knocked it right out though thank goodness. however, i can't stop smelling my underwear periodically in fits of paranoia that it's returned.

this forum is fantastic!!! you guys are all so full of good advice!!!!! thank youuuuuuu!

Yes, ex was treated, but the doctor told him it wasn't necessary, but would treat him anyways. Didn't work. Ex is a cheat. Period, plain and simple, and I'm a true believer that it was something in his sperm, besides the largeness of his other brain, and his cheating ways that caused my problem.

Mine is gone again. I guess the 200mg inserted worked, plus took 2 by mouth for a couple of days. Hope to god it worked, cause having sex with the my guy this weekend, and I can only pray it's not there. I almost want to get him drunk, so he has no memory!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Hey ladies
I have 2 questions. When you use the hydrogen peroxide douche do you ever notice it fizzing up?
I normally use it during in the shower but one day I decided to do it on my back in the bathtub. It felt like it was getting hot and i felt something oozing down. so I took a mirror and it was just fizzing out of my crotch! it look like a rabid dogs mouth. i hope that's normal. i think i read that the fizzing is doing something and reacting to whatever's up in there.

question 2-does your urine smell different after using the hydrogen peroxide? since i've been using it, it smells very strong and metallic like. i don't know how to explain it.

i want to go to my doctor with this but i just feel like she'll just prescribe me some meds and call it a day. i want to get down to root cause and kill it not just bandaid it!

Hi all I'm new here.

I just went to the doctor because I noticed excessive stuff coming out and he prescribed be flagyl but its my birthday in 2 days and my bf is coming from out of town who i havn't seen in a few weeks and I want to be having sex!!1 So i figured i'd start the meds after the wknd. The funny part is i only notice an occasional fait odor or if i actually smell my finger. I had BV a few years ago and that smell was undeniable.. through my pants and everything.

But this time I was noticing the ickiness and I tried the hydrogen peroxide douche yesterday and i noticed a HUGE difference. Nothing has come out since then and there is 0 odor. I also took folic acid supplements and i think maybe thats helping too. But I feel a whole lot better already.

Do u think the smell might come out when I have sex? Would it be better with or without condoms?

Don't we need the doctors opinion for this infections? Did you used it or you just found it?

My gynecologist said it looked like a great product. And I certainly concur. As a chemist, I've tested its pH myself and it is, indeed, 4.7.

Cheers!

Ladies,

I have gotten some results from the doctor regarding my blood tests. Everything was good except the Mag. and oxygen levels. In other words, I have low mag and low oxygen levels. I wonder if this has something to do with the bloating, gas? I've now noticed mucous in the stool also. This drives me up the wall! I'm going to the health food store later to buy oxygen/mag supplements.

Awhile back I mentioned a great product, and the only one I could find with the right pH to discourage vaginal infections---both BV and yeast. It's a personal lubricant called SYLK. Find out more about it here:

http://sylkonline.com/sylkpersonallubricantfaq.html

It's made from natural ingredients, is safe to use with condoms, and has a pH of 4.7. Great stuff! wink.gif

I'm so sick of this crap!!! I think the big penis theory is valid. Or how about the "Give it to me harder..harder..I said theory? All I know is I sent off for my passport. Sugar daddy i mean the lovely new boyfriend is taking me to Europe around christmas. Maybe, those strains of lactobacillus they have approved there..but not here... will help??

If they can clone copies of bad bacteria to study..and clone new vagina's..they can't clone some of these other good strains?

Maybe..when you get kinda irritated from the size..or speed..it's like re-opening an old wound and causes re-infection?

I currently have a raging yeast infection from hell, a period that lasts not 7 but 10..yes 10 days long I said.
I am back to chain smoking, hitting up starbucks for a cinn. dolce latte everymorning... and no sleep....

I buy it from here: http://www.horizondrugs.com/flagyl.html

Takes awhile to get here though. And only the 500mg works. I use the pills vaginally. Only 1 pill for 2 days and that's it, otherwise, the kitty will get inflamed. I'm taking the 200 mg by mouth right now because they weren't working vaginally. And now my smell is gone again.

Still want the 500mg for incase I have another flare up though. It takes it away for me. The gel Flagyl never worked for me, and taking the pills by mouth never worked. But vaginally kept it away, until i was stupid to get with the ex.

Well girls, I screwed up and had sex with the ex. What an idiot I am. After being 4 months free of B.V., BAMMMM just like that, it's back, and I even made him use protection.

I ran out of the 500mg Flagyl, and have been inserting the 200mg flagyl, but that hasn't done anything. So, I'm going to order some more 500mg online today, and hopefully, that will do the trick.

Anyways, hope all is well. HI LORI!!, SASSY, NEVERENDING....

I don't know. I think it's just him. Yes, he has a big stupid ass willy that he doesn't know what to do with. The new one, is not as large, and never had problems with him. I'm just stupid for giving in. It's just hard. We have going on almost 6yrs history with each other, and it's been hard to say no. Obviously, "HE'S CHANGED" and is in love with me and only me, and can't live without me, blah, blah, blah, and I was stupid enough to buy into it AGAIN. But, I won't make that same mistake again.

I ordered some more 500mg online yesterday. And have been taking 2 of the 200mg twice a day by mouth. Smell is gone this morning. So, I'm hoping it's gone now again. I haven't had sex since with my ex, cause to afraid the new guy will smell it and FREAK OUT!! So, hopefully it's gone.

My sis in law confided in me and has been going through the same thing, except no symptoms. She went to the doctor and they said her infection is WAY UP THERE!!! So, maybe I had it, WAY UP THERE, AND THE BIG WILLY BROUGHT IT OUT!! That's why I'm taking the Flagyl by mouth as well.

Anyways, I will keep you posted.

Damn! I remember you saying something about him having a big willy. Do you think that is why you get the BV? I hate to ask you but does your current boyfriend have a smaller you know what than your ex? Just wondering! Maybe, it's the size of the penis?

Well, I just started on Monday, so its a little early to tell. Plus I've been using the boric acid caps, so that also affects it. On a side note, a little worried because my period seemed to start like 4 days ago, and nothing full blown yet. Could be the diet though. Bad timing. I hope so. Anyway! I don't think you should worry that the anti- and the pro- will cancel each other out. As long as you don't take them together it should be fine. It's recommended that ladies take acidophilus when on a prescription, so I think it should be fine. Esp. if it seems to be working for you! I'm going to give an update in another week or so when my period and the boric acid are worked out.

Question for all BV fighters... Does anyone notice a grainy texture to their periods sometimes? I don't know if it's just me, but I think it might have to do with the BV.

As for the Nuva Ring, I was on it for a bit a while back, but it didn't work for me. I would ask the doc. I have read that it can cause infections, but I don't know. I got infections from the keeper. I used that for probably two or three years, but it might have been cuz it was getting old. Seems like anything being up there for long periods of time could cause an infection. I hope that's not the case for you though! Could you try the patch maybe? For a break or something?

Hi LoveLife:)

I went back and reread your posts and it does seem we are on a simillar supplement routine:) How are your symptoms since you started? I'm two weeks in with the Femdophilis and doing well, I feel as though I'm kicking the problem.

I'm going to do the Goldenseal until next week and then take a break from any kind of anti-biotic, anti-microbial and see how things go. What I'm afraid of is that I'm being counterproductive by taking any kind of anti and expecting my little probiotics to repopulate again... any thoughts on this? If I do feel like I start losing ground, I will try some of the others off of your list, thanks so much for the info!

Best of luck to everyone battling this... I just bought my second bottle of Femdophilis today so I'm goin strong lol!

Also, is anyone on the NuvaRing? I've been on it for over two years and only had the BV problem twice in the past 10 months, but I'm wondering if it could affect the BV at all? Should I be taking it out and washing it regularly while I'm fighting the BV? I'm not willing to go off of it... it's the best birth control on the planet as far as I'm concerned, but maybe it could be harboring the bad guys? Just wondering if anyone else has given this any thought??

Sorry I am just here to gripe!!!! This really bites. My sex life is boring at best. My husband hasn't complained because at least he is getting some but he has to pull out EVERY time so the smell won't come back. I have been smell free for a few weeks but I don't know if it is the vitamins or the fact that he pulls out. I am too scared to let him try. There has to be a better cure out there somewhere!! I can't take this much longer. I am going crazy!!!!! mad.gif

Hi Desperate1. Sounds like you're doing something similar to what I'm doing. Even though I'm going a bit more intense with it. But I've been getting these stupid things for over 2 years and I honestly don't think it has ever really fully gone away. Anyway, what I wanted to say is that I read that it is a good idea to switch up your natural anti-bacterials... ie. the Goldenseal. Or you body risks becoming immune to them. Oregano Oil is actually the strongest one you can take. And grapefruit seed extract is also a good one.
Here is of anti-microbials list in case you want to try another:
Chaparral, garlic, green tea, lemon balm (antiviral, bad for hypothyroidism), lomatium, myrrh (small amounts, good if teamed with Goldenseal), olive leaf, onion, oregano, pau d’arco (antifungal), rosemary, sage, sandalwood, St. John’s wort, thyme, elderberry, basil, cinnamon, fresh ginger, chrysanthemum, mullien, horehoud, hyssop, usnea, grapefruit seed, licorice (careful, high doses can mess with potassium absorption and cause blood pressure problems, but this stuff rules.)
Also some good immune supportive things are echinacea, ginseng, shitake, astragulus, ligustrum, andrographis, miatake, reishi, changa, and there are plenty more too...

** i am no doctor so be sure to check the dosage and side effects of anything unprescribed (not to say that prescribed stuff won't mess with you either tho)

Hey Ladies, I'm going to hopefully be going into a natural medicine field her in the next year or so, hopefully I can be of more help then!

Hi there! I'm new to the boards but have been lurking for the last several weeks as I've been desperately searching for a cure for this damn BV!!

A brief history here... one day late last year a nasty odor appeared. I was freaked out because I thought it was an STD, but an o-so-embarrasing trip to Planned Parenthood left me diagnosed with BV and a prescription of Flagyl. What a relief right?! Sure the Flagyl made me gag and choke every time I took it, I couldn't drink alcohol (which is hard to explain to the drinking buddies), and I got a raging yeast infection afterward (which then I also treated with OTC stuff). But yay... I was odor free... for about 7 months.

Surprise, it's back. Out of nowhere. I've been dating and sleeping with the same guy all year, no douching, tampons only when I have a heavy flow (I'm on the NuvaRing too and have been for over two years now). After how awful the Flagyl was, I thought I'd research this stuff a little and came across this site.

Let me just say that I probably won't post here often, but a big thanks to all of you who do. Along with valuable information on your trials and errors with treatments, you have made me laugh until my stomach hurts! So I thought I'd contribute a little and share my experience and what's worked for me so far. I haven't kicked the BV totally yet, but I feel like I have a decent control over it and I have hope that my treatment will work if given enough time! I don't honestly know if its the combination of things I did/am doing or one single thing, so I'll post it all lol!

*About 4 weeks ago I started eating the Activia yogurt daily. (This only lasted 3 weeks because I hate yogurt!)

*3 weeks ago I started taking Acidophilis tablets and a multi-vitamin pack from Natures Bounty that includes a multi, fish oil, calcium, b-complex, and a bunch of other stuff. (I figured it was time to start taking care of myself a little better and vitamins are a good start!)

*I also bought a box of RePhresh and started using that. I did get clumpy discharge from that, but since the RePhresh is a clear gel I figure it just meant the nasty stuff was getting cleaned out. I did use pantyliners for at least the first day of each RePhresh because it does leak out, don't believe it when they say otherwise!!

*Two weeks ago, more research, and I bought some Femdophilis and Goldenseal. I take one Femdophilis in the AM and one in the PM, and two Goldenseal tabs with my other vitamins at lunchtime.

*I used the first three rounds of RePhresh each 3 days apart (and I needed them lol!) the last one I didn't need until about 6 days after the last dose (which was progress!). And after that last dose I haven't felt like I needed it. The only other change I made was having the bf pull out... it sucks, but the semen brings the smell back again immediately and I feel like I'm starting over again!

Here's my reasoning behind all of this... from everything I read the vaginal flora is off balance which is what creates BV. Antibiotics only make the problem worse by killing off everything and not just the bad guys. I'm trying to repopulate the flora naturally and I believe the Femdophilis can do this. I started off with the RePhresh because it takes care of the smell and seems to get the nasties out which made me feel better right away (I was so so so self-conscious of that smell... if I could smell it so could other people... UGH!). Meanwhile I'm taking Goldenseal which is a natural mild antibiotic that is good for the mucous membranes, and the Femdophilis to repopulate my vag with the good stuff. (I do take them at seperate times during the day just in case the Goldenseal might kill off the bacteria strains I'm taking!)

For the last week and a half I have had only a few MILD MILD bouts of dischage with a slight odor. I'm only taking the Goldenseal for another week (2-3 weeks at a time is all thats recommended), but I'm going to keep on with the Femdophilis and other supplements and see what happens. I'll try to update in a week or two as to whether the problem has continued to improve! My gut feeling is that this treatment is a process and it's going to take some time before everything is healthy again so I'm giving my body that time and working to get healthier in the process. Also, besides the RePhresh, I didn't and don't use anything else vaginally... my reasoning is that I don't want to undo any repopulating by douching with peroxide or sticking vitamin C or boric acid tabs up there!!

Thanks for taking the time to read this (I know it's terribly long!) I hope that just maybe this can give someone else out there some hope and some ideas that might work for you too!
