I also prefer not to change profile names -- it would get confusing quickly. PM me and let me know why a profile name would need to be changed and I'll be happy to reconsider that. I want to change my profile name because I did a mistake when I registered myself. When I've found this forum I was with a friend and I didn't know what name should I use so....she did suggest me this one. Now I don't like it anymore.... -------------------- |

This is a tough one. I really want the place to be welcoming to newbies, and I still worry that if we change it to 50 posts it is going to be too hard for newbies to ever start threads. if there are threads that are started that no one is posting in, they'll drop to the bottom quickly, right? I'd like to keep the 10 posts rule and keep an eye on how things continue. While a few of you have asked for it to raised, others have asked that it remain at 10, and I tend to agree that that is more fair.
I also really like the "from" line and would prefer to leave it, but thanks for the help, Quantum. It's pretty small and doesn't take up much space, and it's easy to ignore. I also prefer not to change profile names -- it would get confusing quickly. PM me and let me know why a profile name would need to be changed and I'll be happy to reconsider that. I did make the settings so that only members can see folks profiles -- those shouldn't be available to guests. But I'll go back and check that setting; I definitely understand the need for privacy. -------------------- So mod!

I still agree about the number of posts before a newbie can post. There was been some rediculous threads started (like the one in ATWT by our new little fundamentalist). As a newbie I was too shy to start a new thread anyway.
In terms of being mean, the only time I noticed anything was when the newbie was being rude or behaving badly. Most of the newbies here fit in just fine. At least in my opinion. -------------------- Hatred does not cease in this world by hating, but by not hating; this is an eternal truth. --- Buddah, The Dhammapada

I didn't say it did. My post several weeks ago was in response to some newbie-related irritation going around that has not been helped by TPTB. However, continual cases of newbies posting randomly to make their ten posts so they can start a new thread makes some of us less welcoming and/or cautious of newbies so less instances of this would make the lounge a happier and more newbie-friendly place.

How does raising the number of posts required to make a topic make the lounge more newbie friendly?

quantumspice, our main issue with newbies is the 10 posts before they can begin a new topic and we have asked (begged and pleaded) for the amount of posts to be raised.

It seems as if our gripes about the old lounge still exist and weren't really improved in the change-over (despite our suggestions). We are not newbie friendly, as a forum, and, goodness, we're not newbie friendly as BUSTies when they make a mistake! I'll hold my hands up to getting irate, most of us do, we don't have patience for the cluelessness of newbies at times, but it should be the powers that be that we're annoyed with. Yeah, TPTB could set up a FAQ section for new members to have questions answered, or to describe how to do things (like how RV described below how to ignore someone), or what to do when ______ happens. But, in my experience, it won't necessarily get read, and you'll still have the clueless running around. My point - I think this is as much a community culture issue, as it is an administrative one. If someone's being mean to newbies, tell them to stop being such an asshole and PM the newbie and talk to them and apologize for the other rudeness and explain the rules. Don't just sit back and do nothing, reclaim the space. Or publically start having a welcome mat when someone mentions they're new (or does something wrong and has a fairly recent join date or very few posts) and say 'hey, welcome to the forums! [answer questions/whatever] by the way, we normally don't do that around here - instead, we do [insert thing here]". you would have to re-register; there's no way of changing a profile name. Actually, it's really simple to change profile names - but you'd have to ask someone with administrative capabilities to do it. I know I've changed dozens of login names and display names at the BPAL forums, and it seriously takes about five seconds. Lounge Lady, we didn't used to have the "from:" field in our profiles visible on every single post we make, but now it is visible. Can you change it back so it's not visible on every post? I just find it annoying to have that extra information there all the time. LL: FWIW, it's easy to skin out -- Look and Feel / [skin name, pick 'edit template'] / Topic View / renderrow However, IMO, there is something more important that should be edited in the skins: the Contact Information portion of the Profile Portal is visible for everyone, even those that aren't logged in. It's relatively easy to skin out. Right, but we can easily check that information by clicking on the member's name. I just don't see why it has to be on every. single. damn. post. Gets tiring, you know?

I tried to use the travel guide, and a bunch of weird coding came up. Help! Or: Is there a travel forum?

ok... I"m back!!!
Freckle - ok, it let me log in with the new password generated by email when I clicked on the "forgot your password?" link on the log in page. BUT it would only let me do it AFTER I unchecked both the "remember me" box (so the computer remembers you the next time you log in) AND the "browse anonymously" (or whatever it is called - the one that lets you be invisible) once I unchecked both of those, it let me log in using the temporary password. I don't know if it was unchecking those, or if I just got lucky, but it's worth a shot..... hope this helps...???!! |

Hi Freckle -
I'm having the same problem as of this morning. Sucks ass. It required me to log in (when I have the settings set to remember me) and then when I entered the password i KNOW is correct, it kept telling me it was incorrect. I re-set the password, and THAT doesn't work. can someone PLEASE tell me how to get my original name (just plain "zoya") back? so frustrating. It was easy to re-register, but I want my original name back. I got dingo'd in the last round of this happening, but I managed to get it back. I just hate the idea that someone else could co-opt the name. so if there are any pointers as to getting it back I'd love to know what they are (and I'm sure freckle would too!) ETA - I just realized a bigger reason that this sucks. I sent out a few PMs last night and I KNOW I probably have responses, and now I won't be able to see them. WTF? I really want to get back into my old account. |

hey everyone.
it's me freckleface2727, now as just '7', bc apparently I was dingo'd ? after several days of being locked out & trying to re-set my password I said f-it and here I am. what a pain in the ass! anyway, that's my advice to anyone who has been locked out as well, just surrender and start over. how incredibly maddening to be reading the last few days and unable to respond, like all of a sudden being muzzled! glad to be back ~ oxox ! -------------------- I'm gonna let it shine

Don't know if y'all have seen it yet, but LoungeLady explained what's going with the Lounge, here.
ETA: yeyema, you should be able to hit the edit function on any of your old posts and delete or edit the text. You just can't delete anyone else's posts, and I don't think there's any way to delete your name as a post-er, even if there's no text left in your original post. If that makes any sense. I just took percocet a half hour ago, so blame that if it doesn't. -------------------- Check out my band's new demo online! You can DL my original....and please fan up if ya like it!
