What Some of Our BUST Winter Interns Have Their Eyes On This Holiday Season

by Danielle Wright

As Santa gears up to prepare his Christmas Eve rounds, the interns here at Bust are giving readers a peek at what we’d like under our Christmas trees this year. Santa baby, could you take a peep at this piece for me and my fellow interns? We’ve been angels all year.

1. A Sewing Sarah Magic Embroidery Pen for Vanessa – $12.95

I’m really interested in embroidery and often experiment on my own clothes, especially with lettering.  So I’ve asked for an embroidery pen, too. An embroidery pen does half of the needlework for you, so it takes a bit less time to create a piece.

2. A Design Syndome Vektor Icon Pack for Aeva – $15

As a graphic designer, 15 dollars seems like a very fair price to pay for access to hundreds of little icons and symbols that can give a piece texture and polish.

3. A copy of Theory Of The Gimmick for Vanessa – $31.42 (Amazon Price)

There’s this book that was published this year by Belknap Press called Theory of the Gimmick: Aesthetic Judgment and Capitalist Form by Sianne Ngai that I would really love to receive!  It’s a book about how art is compromised by how it must appeal to consumers in late capitalism. I write fiction (or, rather, I try to write fiction) and I think it’s really important to understand when I’m compromising my own vision to be more appealing from a financial point of view. Also, I find myself falling for gimmicky devices all the time when I read, and it’s really distorted how I assess literary aesthetics. I’m trying to read more nonfiction, so this is pretty high on my “To Read” list at the moment.

4. A pair of Phobe Bridgers Punisher Skeleton Sweatpants for Sylvie – $40

You can never own too many sweatpants! And this one has Phoebe Bridgers on the butt.

5. The Brighttech Light Therapy Lamp for Aeva – $49.99

This year, I’m finally taking steps to alleviate my SAD symptoms, and this lamp’s double functionality as a decor piece was the final push.

6. The Phlemuns Signature Backless Tee for Danielle – $80

I first saw this piece on Black Fashion Fair earlier in the year and although it quickly sold out, it’s now availble on the Phlemuns brand site. The entire back of the tee is obsolete, so it can be worn for daytime casual or a night life vibe.

7. The Boy Smells “HINOKI FANTÔME MAGNUM” Candle for Sylvie – $86

The holiday season is the perfect excuse to spend $89 on a candle! Boy Smells’ Ritual Collection has super rad, unique scents conceived beyond the gender binary that are festive without being boring.

8. The Don Smoke CN Reconstructed Logo Sweater for Vanessa – $98

This year I’m trying to purchase less clothes but ones of better quality to be more sustainable in how I dress. I really like this crew neck sweatshirt from the brand Donsmoke with their logo on it. This brand is also known for the heaviness of their clothes, which are meant to keep you warm without being bulky, therefore a great piece for the how cold it gets in my area.

9. The Hanifa Mái Mini Skirt for Danielle – $115

The Mái skirt from Hanifa were the statement pieces of any summer look. I absolutely need this skirt to be my statement piece for SS21!

10. A Baggu Small Block Purse for Sylvie – $148

I literally don’t leave my apartment without a Baggu tote tucked inside my pocket. With this purse, I can put my Baggu in my Baggu! Baggu-ception. Plus, the jade colorway is delightful punch of color.

11. A pair of  Samaria Leah “Lolo” Jeans for Danielle – $185

Samariah Leah has risen up to becomming an elaborate self named brand via social media. I’ve had my eyes on these “Lolo” jeans all year because of the 90s inspired cut of the waist, similar to the jeans Mariah Carey and Beyoncé wore at that time.

12. The Naadam Cashmere Cargo Joggers for Aeva – $195

Screen Shot 2020 12 14 at 2.30.15 PM 5c1b4

I now live in sweatpants, so I’m coveting these cashmere joggers in the hopes of feeing a bit cuter and chicer while keeping cozy inside.
