I think it's gross that some people don't even consider to abstain from sex until marriage. And even when they do have sex, they don't use protection. It's gross. And then they whine about STDs and pregnancy.

Thank you, GT.

Some of us got an STI without having sex with the person we got it from, but that's not the point.

hi folks <BR>i am new here....have had hpv for going on 3 years now...with constant outbreaks....was wondering how you view sex and relationships after learning you had hpv....i'm engaged but i really feel it's not fair for my fiance to be with me, since i frequently have outbreaks and various treatments....any advice? please?

Have you tried Valtrex?

Oh, I think I've had more than enough of Nadia to last me more than enough life times.

Enough with derailing.

I remember COCL talking about Gardasil in, maybe this thread? But I she said something about YOU may never had had sex, but Johnny McFrisky could have and picked something up. I'm paraphrasing here, but it's totally the truth. There are so many different strains of any disease, and i"m not limiting this to STD's, there's not just one type of cancer, or HIV/AIDS or whatever. You partner could have picked it up...this isn't anything all but ONE of the busties clearly knows.

*relurks*
p_176
valtrex won't help an hpv outbreak. multivitamins and a healthy immune system will.

Well, I just found out that I have HPV. I guess I shouldn't be surprised considering the statistics but still. I was also told that I have something called dysplasia. They didn't really tell me much except that they want to see me again in 6 months.
p_176
sorry to hear that! dysplasia means you have cell changes but it's not major - they'll do another pap to make sure it did not get worse. keep your immune system up and you should be fine.

I got diagnosed with HPV about 6 or something years ago. It was the most horrible experience ever. My ob was a huge biotch and basically was like oh this is what you have, here's a pamphlet and sent me on my way. I couldn't ask any questions or anything because she didn't even give me the time. So there I am standing in the waiting room, crying, confused, and pissed off. They told me they wanted to see me back in 6 months. I said f* it and never went back to that ob again. 1 year after that incident I found a new ob, told him of what I was diagnosed with and he tested me. Nothing. It's been 6 years later and I've never had another test come up positive for hpv. I do think hpv is the weirdest disease ever and I can't really say that I believe I ever had it.

Messed up.

I do agree though, keep yourself healthy. There's really nothing else you can do, it's just a weird freaky disease.

What's up with that Nadia chic talking about abstaining from sex? You are in a thread about std's and you want to talk about abstaining, shit that isn't going to stop you from getting a disease!

Ladies, I'm back! Sorry for taking such a long time off, but lots of things has happened in my life, so...yeah.
I have a question about HPV. I got a pap smear done like hmmm 1 year and a half ago, and it showed that I had some abnormal cells present so they asked me to go back in 2 months to get a colposcopy. Well it came back with the results that I have HPV ((from 1 to 4 of the scale of danger, it was a mere 1, phew! it was only in one little area). He told me to go back in 6 months and I did and this time he told me that the results for the hpv came back as negative, so YAY!! Told me to book for an appt to get a normal pap exam in a year (I have it next month).
Ok, so it brings up the question: What's the chance that it'll come back?? Should I start to freak out?? My boy and I are thinking about getting pregnant...you girls don't think HPV could make you infertile right? Sorry but im such a HYPOCHONDRIAC, if I think about a disease, I start freaking out and think I have it!
PLease help on clearing my doubts :-(
p_176
it's possible your body killed the virus and you'll be fine unless you get reinfected.....
dani1983
Thanks for your quick answer, p176! I really hope it comes negative again. Btw I didn't havethr hpv that gives you warts, but the other kind. I read online that this girl have had hpv for 3 years and she was pregnant , so I think this gives me somehope. I'm such a dummy, I always get so paranoid about everything! Havinga baby is what I want more than anything and I would have a broken heart if for some reason I couldn't conceive:-(

As a side note, the guy (who I'm pretty sure gave me the virus) and me had sex for the last time almost a year before the pap that showed the abnormal cells was done. So I think it's safe to assume that if in that whole year only a very very few abnormal cells were present in the pap, that now it must be almost completely gone? Dammit my uterus better be a fighter!!
dani1983
Alas, I forgot to add one little thing. Since last year I've been getting this light yellow discharge ( only gets a little metallic smell when I'm close to getting my period) and when I went to the doctor and tested me (for bv, ghonnorea and chlamydia) it came out all negative. I don't have any pain at all, no itchiness either, it's just the yellow discharge asks sometimes that metallic smell(can smell it a little when having sex). What else can it be if not one of those things I got tested for? I don't think it's pcos since I don't have any other symptom. I want to go to the doctrbut I don't have insurance anymore :-(
p_176
yea you can totally get pregnant with hpv. easily treatable while pregnant. i think the only way it would be difficult to be pregnant is if you had to have a cone biopsy, which happens when you have dysplasia further into the cervix, which it does not sound like you have to worry.

i don't think pcos affects your discharge.....maybe you have a yeast infection? or it could be nothing.

HPV Vaccination for Young Men
fuego_lento
About the HPV vaccination for men -- I thought the reason it was marketed first to women and girls was that it was incredibly effective for us, but not so much for men. Am I remembering wrong?
p_176
i think they had not previously tested the efficacy of the vaccine for men/boys.

Ladies I'm back!

I finally had my yearly pap exam 2 days ago. Remember I said the nurse (over 1 1/2 years ago) told me I had low risk hpv? well it turned out it was BS! i have high risk hpv! aaaaa! at least i don't hve the one with the warts :-( but i do have the cancer one :-( Anyways when she told me I had the high risk one I thought i was going to die (I thought high risk was SUPER BAD) and she told me that the only difference is that it MIGHT give you cancer if you don't keep it checked. For it to actually become cancer, it takes like 6 to 10 years (and of course it'd only develop if you didn't get your yearly paps and checked on it). That time, 1 1/2 years ago, I also got a biopsy done, that came back later saying there was "nothing to worry about". Well this time my nurse was more specific. They did the biopsy in two different "Abnormal cells" spots (the other nurse told me they only did it in one place, wtf!) and one came back as being nothing, while the other came back as nothing too, but for some reason the cells were a little inflamed.
Im waiting for my results, I have to call her in 2 weeks and a half (right before my vacation trip) and HOPEFULLY it'll say that the hpv has disappeared! CROSS YOUR FINGERS FOR ME BUSTIESSSS!

Also, I asked her if high risk hpv would make it difficult to get pregnant and she said no way. In the past, they used to really make a mess down in your cervix when trying to get rid of the bad cells but nowadays, its more "centralized" so its impossible that having hpv (and getting hundreds of biopsys and tissues taken) will make you infertile. PHEW.

I believed on what you told me p_176, I just wanted to make sure the same went for high risk hpv ;-)

So I went to the specialist today for a followup to my last appointment. After the last one they told me that I had mild cervical dysplasia. Anyway, today was more of the same but I was pissed off because the appointment was made almost 6 months ago and when I got there I was told that the regular doctor was on vacation but they had someone filling in for her. And it was a man. He was nice and everything but it was still a bit annoying to be told that at the last minute.

Anyway, I don't know if other people get this but they had like, a little video camera so that I could watch what the doctor was doing to my insides. I was surprised to see a fair amount of blood. I would have had my period last week but I had a lot of stuff going on so I started a new pack of bc pills right away so that I could skip it. Anyway, he had to swab away a lot of blood and at one point I thought I heard him say something about semen (which was weird because cc_boy and I haven't had sex without a condom for a few weeks). The worst part was when it seemed like he actually snipped off part of my cervix or something (is that what they do?). He told me not to watch but I did anyway and only got squigged out when I saw it filling up with blood.

Also, I'm still confused about HPV in general. From what I've looked at on the internet it only talks about treatment for the warts that can come with HPV. I don't have any warts but is there any kind of treatment for the virus itself?
edie52
CC_girl, I've never seen the camera thing, and I don't think I'd want to (I mean it might be cool for a second, but not the blood and the snipping!). I think they only snip a piece of tissue for a biopsy, so that's probably what they did.

As far as I know there is no treatment for the virus. My doctor said that most women's immune systems clear the virus within a few years, so keep your system strong. I have read that smoking in particular can keep you from clearing it. I've also read that red clover tea discourages abnormal cell growth. I don't know if that would help treat the virus, more likely it just prevents complications from it.
candycane_girl
Thanks for the info edie. What I had was a colposcopy and according to wikipedia "an Ob/Gyn can remove some vaginal HPV types that are viewable during a colposcopy". So I guess maybe that's what they were trying to do. I don't really know. Mostly it seemed like the doctor was just swabbing around in there and then he took that little bit for the biopsy.

I almost wish I hadn't looked because now all I can think of is that little snip that he took. I was sore for a bit and it was kind of weird because I could feel distinctly that he took the sample from the right side of me. Blech.

Okay, I have a deep dark secret I've never told anyone. I had a genital wart outbreak in early 06, with no reoccurrence. Other than that I have been perfectly fine and healthy, with no problems what so ever, and what my gyno refers to as an "extremely healthy pelvis". Since all has been fine and dandy, I never mentioned the situation to my boyfriend, but now I'm starting to feel guilty about it. We've been together so long that bringing it up now will probably cause major problems. I just don't want him to find out the wrong way. We are both certain we want to spend the rest of our lives with each other, and my current nightmare is being pregnant one day down the line and at while at the obgyn with my man, all excited and shit, and the doctor going "oh, so have you ever had any issues with those warts you had when you were younger?". HELP!
candycane_girl
Have you had a pap smear? If you have anything then it would have probably shown up on the pap smear by now. A lot of HPV infections clear up on their own.
edie52
MadameHooch, the first thing you need to do is straight up find out if you still have the virus in your system. You should be getting paps at least once a year (twice a year if the Dr. says so). However, you can have a normal pap and still have the virus- "normal" means that there are no negative changes or abnormalities. But you can still have the virus, and the doctor can tell you if you still have it.

How long have you been with your boyfriend?
MadameHooch
I've been "with" him for about a year, we were friends for two years before that, so we're pretty close. I had a pap on the 5th, actually, and I just got the nice little card in the mail saying "we are pleased to inform you all results came back normal." Do you think I'd need to go in for another visit or can they somehow figure this out from the pap? I'm not too sure how it works. Ugh, it's so good to talk to someone about this you have no idea. It's been weighing on me forever.
candycane_girl
I'm pretty sure that if there were any abnormalities then it would have shown up on the pap. That's what happened with me. After the first abnormal pap I was sent to a gyno who confirmed that I have HPV.
edie52
My doctor told me you can still have normal paps with the virus. Especially if it's the same doctor that first noticed changes in the cells; if there are no further changes the pap will be deemed normal, meaning everything is the same and you're safe. They won't call you every time to tell you that you have HPV if you already know. The only way to know for sure is to ask your doctor.

MadameHooch
Okay, thanks for the advice!

Waiting until after you are married does not and will not protect you from an STD. Do I think sex and marriage go hand in hand? Yes! I believe marriage first, sex after that. My husband and I did not have sex until after we were married and I think it's best to wait but do I think being married will make me immune to std's? NO! People cheat. End of story!

thanks _octinoxate! I am planning on going to the sexual health clinic, my doc just moved to the states (wah!). I just reread over my last post and I sounded a lot more crass and uncaring then I was going far. Bad hellcat! I didn't think it was possible to test for HPV unless it is for the types that can lead to cancer. Well, I'll just have to go to the clinic and figure this out. The internet cannot be trusted for such an issue.

I've only had 3 sexual partners so I don't have a lot of seasoned advice for you on bringing up "the talk". With the last two partners I brought it up right before the gettin' it on started gettin' on. I suggest bringing it up earlier because it can either a) ruin the mood cool.gif lead to unclear answers or c) lying. I have always asked about testing and if there was a sex partner b/w testing and I still ended up with genital warts from the guy I was in a serious monogomous relationship with. Tricky situations.

I am on the fence re: oral & condoms/dental dams. I feel like it is a neccessity in this day and age, yet I still find the idea of blowing a condom covered c*ck unappealing. I've never had experience with a dd but I hear if you put some lube b/w your skin and the dd it feels extra nice!

Well.....I've had four sexual partners. I think you have to talk to a person wayyyyyyyy before you get in the mood. It's important to tell them upfront what Std's you have and have had. I told my ex husband about my vagina problems and it was kinda weird but something that has to been done. You can't have sex with someone knowing you have an infection and or std. It's not right! It may be hard to talk to your partner but necessary.

Hello all. I have some great new VAGISTATIN clears hHPV AND CERVICAL DSYPLASIA. My sister was diagnosed with HPV two years ago and had to endure pap smears every three months as pap smears were abnormal, had abnnormal cells on cervix and she tested positive for HPV. She was told by a holistic practioner that VAGistatin would clear the HPv. She took the medicine suppositories) for one month and then scheduled to have a pap smear. to her surprise no evidence of HPv. If you do not believe me do the research, google vagistatin and get the info. You can purchase it on numerous websites such as HEALTH CONCERNS.

Gee, Silky6, do you work for Vagistatin? Because it seems like you do. Three posts all in the same thread all pushing the same product.

If you want to be a legit part of this community that is taken seriously, I suggest you stop by the Newbies thread & introduce yourself.

I did not know that I had to give you a bio for you to take me seriously. I am promoting vagistatin because it works, do the research to find out for yourself. I could care less about what your thoughts are about me. Obviously, my threads were not for you, they were for the women who are looking to end their never ending battle with hpv (becasue we all know it being diagnosed with hpv can consume your entire emotional well being). I at least shared a cure for hpv and cervical dysplasia. May i ask what cure you have found to help this community end their battle with hpv. Again, if you think I am a fraud, do the research Ms. Debbie-Downer.

Why don't you get your big girl knickers in a fuckin' twist already. rolleyes.gif

Look, it is not an uncommon occurrence around here for some corporate shill to walk in touting their company's product as being a gift from the goddesses. (Jamustick, anyone?) They clog up threads with their free advertising disguised as aid & waste the time of the suffering. Which is what your posting the same goddamned thing three times looked like. So I called you on it. Sue me.

It's not like you mentioning Vagistatin is some earth-shattering thing that nobody around here has ever heard of or tried. There are thirty-three pages of archives, plus there's a whole thread dedicated to the product (that got shut down quickly). You're obviously not the first one to bring it up. You are, however, the only one that felt the need to whinge about it three fucking times in five fucking minutes MAKING YOU LOOK LIKE A TROLL.

And of course you didn't know to introduce yourself, that's why I told you, genius. It is considered proper form on this board to introduce yourself in the Newbies thread. I even made you a linky link so you could go there promptly & with great ease.
candycane_girl
silky, you have answered various posts by simply replying in all caps (you are yelling at us) to try some random product. Okay, so your sister used it and it worked for her, that's great. But you only need to tell the story once, using regular sentences rather than constantly yelling at people to try vagistatin. Also, I'm not going to go and try anything that my doctor hasn't told me about. I value what she says over what some random person on the internet says.

I had that too. Your doc will probably want to do a colposcopy: the cut out a tinytiny sample of your cervix and send it out to see if there is any cellular dysplasia (funny-looking pre-cancerous cells). She may want to re pap in 6 months. Or both. I had to go through about five paps and three colposcopies. It wasn't serious enough to do anything, because all the procedures available damage the cervix, making conception difficult. But it resolved on its own, so keep your chin up!
melis19750
hey there... I have used vagistatin in the past before. Around 2003. I don't know if it helped or not, at that time I had CIN-1
now i am clear of the virus and CIN- have been for 7 years
yay
but deal with some other female issues.... like dermatitis in that area
past yeast infection- which sucks
but i think im getting over that hump

anyhow I also did this naturopathic treatment from an RN/Midwife when I had CIN-1
it included vagpack suppositories and some other stuff where she put this bromeline and papaya enzyme on my cervix

I did acupuncture, and some other stuff
all and all the CIN went away on its own
I was diagnosed in October 2002 and it cleared up completely in Jan 2005
so- try not to stress if your CIN is mild- because it generally can clear on its own

This is scary: Even Without Symptoms Genital Herpes Can Spread. The statistics are NUTS. Make sure to get checked out, people!

It's odd, but most of the folks I know with HPV got it while in "committed" relationships where their partner stepped out & didn't know they had contracted it because they had no symptoms.
ketto
AP, my HPV showed up over a year after I was with my current partner. I've had 14 partners and he's had 1 so I know I got it from one of my past relationships. He's since been diagnosed with it too as we both have warts. They often show up years after you've been exposed so I have no way to know which person I contracted it from and it's likely I unknowingly spread it to a few folks too.

Unfortunately you can't test for most of the wart causing strains, so despite my yearly STD tests, there was really know way to know until they showed up. But still, get checked because sometimes something shows up!
