so, I didn't get to see los camp as they were on stupidly early (who puts a headlining band on at 6.00?) but I did get to meet a couple of them and they were very nice (and so tiny!). Hopefully I'll see them over the summer.
I did get to see:

I'm shocked that no one has mentioned She and Him! I saw them play on Conan the other night, with Yo La Tengo playing backup. My roommate has been raving about them since the first album came out recently, but I fell in love when I saw the performance. I almost feel a little sheepish talking about them-they're such the 'new', 'quintessential', indie rock band; the lead singer is Zooey Deschanel, somewhat of an 'indie' film star; they're album cover is typical, simple, 'indie' band artwork:

I've read many comments on forums that they're just another lame 'indie' rock band, which is why I want to shy away from that label, because so many people are understandably jaded when a band is categorized that way these days. The term is overused and too vague anyway. This band is special.
The music marvelous. It ranges from old school country to soul to rock. Her voice is a sort of twangy, Patsy Cline-ish style. It is SO talented-I can't stop listening!
Here's
a clip of the performance on Conan. The video is a bit finicky for some reason, so ya'll might have to reload a couple of times. There was one on youtube, but it was promptly removed by NBC Universal..those fuckers

I told hubby that this summer is the summer of Bhangra and he told me i need more than one cd ( I have a problem where I tend to play the same thing over and over and over and over and it drives everyone batshit crazy)
Anyone have any other good Bhangra suggestions for me?

Since I'm such a big music geek, here's some stuff I like: Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Neko Case, Jolie Holland, Sixteen Horsepower/Woven Hand, Stereolab, Laika, Broadcast, Bauhaus, Siouxsie/Creatures, Patsy Cline, Nina Simone, the Psychedelic Furs, and Echo & the Bunnymen. Haven't heard the new Ladytron yet (I'm not a downloader...rather kind of an old skool cd collectin' geek), but I hear it's fab.

I need to get the new beck for sure. kinda fell off with ladytron after their last album.. not sure why really. just stopped sticking, I guess.
I've been digesting bands on Rumraket records. Efterklang and Grizzly Bear have been in my collection for a bit, but I'm getting on to Erik Levander, Amiina. I shed tears for Scandinavian/Icelandic music.
I'd joined up with Ye-Ye land, as I love french tunes.... there is sooo much I have yet to delve into aside from the biggies--france gall, francois hardy, brigitte bardot, and the like.
Richard Hawley's been treating me well...
30's girl---I LURV me some bauhaus (not so much LovenRockets or Peter Murphy solo stuff per se), and Siouxsie Sioux. I'm a HUGe Cocteau Twins fan, too. I like a lot of 4ad including Blonde Redhead.

*ALERT* *INDIE MUSIC SNOBBERY ENSUING*
I used to be a MAJOR 4AD fan, to the point that 4AD music was practically all I played on my radio show in the early '90s (the other djs jokingly called me the 4ADj). Since 4AD founder Ivo left in the late '90s, I don't think the label has been the same. I don't like a lot of their new signings, and they're also signing bands who were previously on other labels, Blonde Redhead being one. They didn't start out on 4AD. Stereolab's new album is out on 4AD, too. I'll buy it because I'm such a 'Lab fan. But I'm not a big supporter of the label any more.
I also spent several years on the Cocteau Twins forum which, despite being run by a woman (who often goes on hiatus from the forum to take care of personal business and leaves it in the hands of her vice-admin, a guy), has a lot of underlying sexism and cliqueishness going on. I still love the band, though.

Danish The Savage Rose excites me. Very haunting voice.
Greek Aphrodite's Child - I love this song.
Swedish The Happy Birthdays "Three girls from Stockholm doing wonderful pop in the vein of american indiepop from the nineties and UK pop eighties style with nods to C86 and Sarah."
French Zombie-Zombie - with an incredibly cool video!

I've recently discovered Inner and their CD Lovetheonlyway but I simply can not find it when I try to illegally download it! Sigh! It's so frustrating. I've found a few places to listen to it online but I want it with me always! Humph. The thing is, I like them so much that if I don't find a solution soon I might actually-gasp!-buy their CD once I have money again. And the last CD I bought was Modest Mouse, the one with "Float On" on it, so you know it's a big deal.

I saw the Melvins last night. There were so fuckin good I can't even deal with it. It was super heavy metal . Possibly one of the best live shows I have ever seen.

Tom Hagerman is fulfilling my Amelie accordian, music box love right now.
And I'm liking the Mary Onettes, too.. for their sorta bauhaus-y, pop-goth thing going on.
Fun times with Brazilian girls new album!!! I deem this one of my next "transition with strength" albums for its ability to make my booty bounce.
gahhhh... I NEED the new radiohead. badddd.....
A few of Elin Palmer's stuff is tres nice, as well. She's a swedish/denver multi-instrumentalist singer. I dig "Postcards" and "du". Haunting and organic. I likey like.

Kewl! Yay! Truthfully, I like their first album better (particularly Master of None), but the new one's growing on me. I think they've got kind of a Mazzy Star/Opal sound with a little Broadcast '60s pop and Cocteau Twins sparkle thrown in. I love her Kendra Smith-like voice, too.

I've been into Kid Sister, and have downloaded various songs that have been earworms for me:
Keith Whitley - When You Say Nothing At All
Father MC - I'll Do 4 U
Sonny J - (Handsfree) If You Hold My Hand
The Waterboys - Sweet Thing
Talking Heads - Sax and Violins
The O'Jays - Cry Together
Mint Condition - Breaking My Heart
Connie Francis - Siboney
This may sound nerdy, but Bruce Springsteen's Human Touch is one of the sexiest songs I've ever heard. It's the drive and the passion, the guitar solos, Bruce's wailing, and the desperate tenderness of it all.
