I had a thread idea a few weeks ago and now I can't even remember the woman who I was thinking of when I came up with it ... but I thought it would be nice to have a space where we could sing the praises of particular feminists (i.e. I read this article today about such and such and don't you think s/he rocks)? An admiration thread that's not so much about the mutual where we can celebrate the daily acts of feminism. What do people think? or do we have somewhere suitable already that I've forgotten?

The majority of us have a handle on the English language & it's rules. And we talk like grownups, not teenage girls. Hell, even our teenage girls are erudite. That's one of the things I like about the Lounge. I don't have to read all that retarded, truncated net-speak.

personally i've never met a shift or a caps lock that i liked. both are PoOp!

It's all in context, though- obviously, gt, I know you have more than a couple of brain cells to rub together. You can carry on a coherent conversation and make a well-thought-out argument...other people, I'm not so sure about. So when you use the interwebz-speak, you use it at appropriate times, so it's not annoying.

Ever tried reading the comments on I Can Has Cheezburger? Now, there's an annoyance.

how is it done?

head over to the My Controls panel, then on teh left side, near the bottom, there is a header about Personal Profile, there should be an option to Edit Avatar Settings. then just load in your pic and go for it!
Because of the size restriction, you may have to resize your pic using photoshop or paint.

while I am a midwest mamma for sure, I have been hearing the term Left Coast alot. How's about that as a name for the thread? I'm not from the area, but I like the sound of NxNW. Mostly because I'm a sucker for old films.

NxNW as a name makes me kind of sad, b/c it sort of excludes British Columbia, which is the southwest point of Canada - and, along with Washington and Oregon, more in the middle of the continent, rather than the north. I guess it is NxNW if you are only including the U.S. in the thread......but then I'll be sad because I always think of those 2 states as BC's really close cousins.....
