Wow!! I'm sure Barbara Walters loved that! I'm amazed that they haven't booted her from the show yet. I bet they will. Think about it--the Chinese thing, the Clay Aiken/Kelly Ripa thing, and now the Trumpster controversy--they don't exactly fit into The View's format of friendly discussion with a sprinkle of debate, followed by a visit from Emeril. She'll be gone within the next year.
wombat
I think she is such a jerk.
bustygirl
Look how much I miss because I never watch The View. Sounds like Rosie is only marginally more useless than the rest of the hosts.
pinkpoodle
I never watch The View either. I just know about the goings-on is because of Rosie. There's a fine line between being a comedian and being an asshole. She could have made it funny by omitting the "sit and spin" thing and all of the other stuff she mumbled throughout the show. She's just so mean! Is she trying to be Ann Coulter or something?
raisingirl
It's odd that she said "sit and spin" without the accompanying hand gesture! Snort.

Her impression of the Donald in that clip that PP posted (thank you!) was pretty fucking funny.

I hate that this (giving Miss USA a "second chance," not the ensuing Rosie feud) is just giving him even more publicity for his stupid television show that starts up again in two weeks. ETA: It's going into its sixth season. Who watches this shit year after year? It was dull the first time around.
kelkello
Whatever happened to Rosie when she was actually sort of funny? She used to be witty and biting. Now she's just biting. Before her talk show and the damning "Queen of Nice" label, she used to do some very funny standup. Now she's just a big steamroller.
girlygirlgag
She is bringing ratings to that show, they will keep her as long as the ratings continue.

I didn't know she did that Chinese bit. How lame. For someone to get all up in arms about people being homophobic, she should remember that most of us, don't think it is funny when you use racial stereotypes.
ginger_kitty
This isn't really a big surprise but I just read this:

wombat
It freaks me out when I see people driving without headlights.
mouse
so, i'm a little late on this, sorry. no internet over xmas in the wilds of pennsylvania. BUT! first of all, i can't stand trump OR rosie, so i really could care less about the entire brouhaha. i'd like to point out, though, that while she may look like a pelican, ivanka trump seems consistently articulate and intelligent. she's fully aware of the fact that she has her job because of nepotism, but she does it well, and she doesn't seem vapid or anything else one would expect the daughter of the donald to be.
raisingirl
Julia Roberts is pregnant again. Yawn. Next!
wombat
So, yesterday we saw a lot of funeral coverage for Gerald Ford and James Brown.

A little sad, but it was bracing to see people turn out with such dignity and show such love and have such ceremonies for these two amazing men.

And, Saddam Hussein was hung. Jeebus.

They showed his former vicitms (ack!) and refugees who felt relief.

Lots of death, but I get the sense that we are reminding ourselves of the sanctity of life and of American society -- which is not something we usually get to experience when lookin' at this whole media circus!!

kelkello
And it wasn't but a few hours later until you could watch Saddam being hung on youtube. I find that really sick and morbid. Yes, he was an asshole, ferocious dictator. But I don't want to watch anyone die whether they deserve it or not. I think there's something seriously wrong with the world in general that people are foaming at the mouth to be the first person to post footage of something like that. If it helped families of his victims to watch and get closure, I guess I can understand it a bit more. But watching someone die just for the glee of seeing something sick makes me feel a bit nauseous.
wombat
I didn't watch him being hung, but I have no sympathy since he killed so many,
chachaheels
I completely agree, Kelkello; I was listening to a radio interview last week about how the media in the US were "contending" with the impending hanging of Saddam Hussein, like they had this big dilemma to solve: on the one hand, there is a big taboo on television in that you never, ever show an identifiable dead body. Also, you don't televise an execution--basically because it leads to "an identifiable dead body", and also because, as a society, we aren't supposed to be as primitive as to encourage that kind of blood lust with public executions anymore. But on the other hand, if it isn't broadcast and documented by the American media, it will be filmed and broadcast on the internet: and the big networks will lose tons of revenue in the event and also in the future, as viewers will seek out news from the internet instead of traditional visual media. What to do? Be barbaric and prosper? Or be "virtuous" and sink? Lots of twisting over that.

Personally, I'm sickened they had to make a decision at all. I don't want to see a public hanging, anywhere, and I certainly don't want the practice to become widespread (and you know it will).

Most sickening of all is the ease with which people seem to forget that so many of Saddam's activities were not only sanctioned but financed by other powers in the world, especially the massacre of the Kurds, which is one of the big war crimes for which he was condemned. Oh, yes, he was a dictator who killed, certainly: but he was not acting alone or in a vacuum, and it seems to me a plethora of war criminals who should have been hanged along with him are still blundering and stammering through their official duties while even more people die at their hands.
wombat
I just DO NOT watch that stuff. I'll occasionally watch a horror movie if it is really obviously fake, like Peter Jackson's early zombie movie or something.

But I do not need images of dead burnt bodies and the like to be stuck in my brain.

I still remember some of the early American Civil War photos.

I think it's disgusting that you can hardly turn on a TV or even look through a fashion magazine without seeing some gross, gory thing. Although they seem to have stopped publishing graphic pictures of cosmetic surgery in magazines.
chachaheels
The whole idea of people gathered around a TV or a computer screen to witness a hanging is too "dark ages" for me. I found the whole "news" dilemma to be cynical bullshit. So your "newsshow" loses a few bucks because you decide not to publicize an execution--tough! I do not want to think we are yet again living in a society so puritanical and so blind that we would need that kind of bloodlust to feel justifiable as a society--for "entertainment". Followed up with commentary by Entertainment Tonight!

And I should not be allowed to even make a statement about Cosmetic Surgery porn. Whether it's in Vogue or in a supposedly underground market that somehow ends up diluting itself into readily accessible media everywhere. So I'm censoring myself. Let me just say WTF and leave it at that.
girlygirlgag
Fox News has a link to it on their website.

Maude forbid a boobie fall out on TV, but a good timey hanging is fun for all! Good Christian fun!

BTW, Pat Robertson has predicted the future for us. Quick to the fall-out shelter!

Ok, I'm going to try to report some celeb gossip again! Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz broke up.

New York Daily News said:

Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz appear to have called it quits, according to Star magazine. The actress, 34, spent Christmas with her family at the Vail Mountain Resort in Colorado, while Timberlake was with his family at home near Memphis, where he allegedly told friends at the Senses nightclub, "Me and Cameron? We're done."

Timberlake spent several days with blond real-estate broker Veronica Finn , who like Timberlake is 25 and a singer. In fact, she was briefly in a girl group with Britney Spears , another Timberlake ex, who closely resembles her.

Diaz and Timberlake have been together since 2003, and while he was a no-show at her "The Holiday" premiere last month, Diaz introduced him on "Saturday Night Live" and partied with him at Barca 18 here just before Christmas. Timberlake's rep Ken sunshine was in transit; Diaz's didn't comment.

Man, nobody stays together anymore sad.gif
I'm still *very* upset over Nick and Jessica....Did anyone see him and Minnilo (sp) kiss when the clock struck midnight on the MTV NYE special?
Jess has seemed so down without Nick.
mouse
yah, after she said "fucking" and nobody bleeped it out even though there was a five second delay? human error? really? human partying on new years eve, i say! tongue.gif

would i be the only one who would find it oddly heartwarmng if brit brit and justin got back together?

One more thing (that I thought was funny)

CNN apologized Tuesday for mistakenly promoting a story on the search for Osama bin Laden with the headline "Where's Obama?"

A spokesman for Illinois Sen. Barack Obama said the apology was accepted.

The blunder came Monday evening on Wolf Blitzer's news show "The Situation Room." Both Soledad O'Brien and Blitzer offered separate apologies during CNN's morning show Tuesday.
****
I'd note that the `s' and `b' keys aren't all that close to each other, I assume it was just an unfortunate mistake.
ratgrl
I'm guessing it was an unfortunate mistake too, although reading about that reminded me of another Wolf Blitzer-related gaffe. This one happened shortly after Hurricane Katrina; Blitzer was interviewing someone (I don't recall who) on his show, and he came out with this little gem: "And you see all these people [stranded New Orleanians] on news footage, and they're all so poor, and they're so black!"

Uh, foot-in-mouth, much? That one got him some press coverage, and I'm sure he was walking around with egg on his face for a while. Jeez!
snafooey
Free spirit, his press secretary noticed the same thing:

Obama's press secretary, Tommy Vieto, responded: "Though I'd note that the 's' and 'b' keys aren't all that close to each other, I assume it was just an unfortunate mistake, and don't think there was any truly malicious intent." (Associated Press)

ritahayworth
mouse, you are not alone. It was my first thought (oh, all right -- wish) when I heard the news.
bunnyb
Veronica Finn is an ex girlfriend who Cameron is insanely jealous of. Justin spent New Year at Kate Hudson't party, they were very close all night and at one stage went upstairs together and when they returned Kate had changed her outfit.
bustygirl
Can we hang B*sh and Ch*ney next? Since we're executing war criminals....
roseviolet
Well, since the newsie thread was created (Thanks, Bunny! We needed it!), I guess we can focus on normal celeb gossip again. Wee!

Dita Von Teese files for divorce from Marilyn Manson
bunnyb
ohmy.gif she always strikes me as so nice, not to mention articulate and stunningly glamorous.
bunnyb
so, I'm maybe starting an internet rumour here but how long do you think it will be until Jude Law and Cameron Diaz are caught smooching (despite her aversion to photographers)?
crazyoldcatlady
the MM/Dita things saddens me. i'm a sucker for outwardly dysfunctional/ inwardly functional relationships. apparently it was dysfunctional x2...
pollystyrene
Interesting that the article quoted her source as saying that "She loved him so much, but he has too many demons." I guess I figured his weirdness was mostly an act for the stage and that he was probably a pretty normal guy IRL. Not that normal people don't have demons, but the description of the state of their relationship (he's completely uncommunicative) makes him sound pretty self-repressive and I guess that's not how I pictured him. Especially after they've been together for 8 years.
sybarite
Dita sort of annoys me but I too think it's a shame they're splitting. MM came across as articulate and political in Michael Moore's 9/11 film; I liked to think they were a like-minded, unconventional, functional and happy twosome.
bustygirl
I think by 'demons' we can read: 'drugs'.

An old friend of mine knew him from when they were a nobody band in Florida. He's actually the godfather of her kid. She says he's very smart, and fairly normal (compared to what his image suggests), but that once the band got big, his drug use became more pronounced.

Of course, this is 10 year old information, so perhaps he's moved on to bigger and better demons. Who knows.
pollystyrene
Assuming that he hasn't kicked the drug habit (and maybe it's gotten worse) that's too bad. Based on how he comes across in serious interviews (such as Fahrenheit 9/11, as Syb mentioned) he's too smart to waste his brain on that.

How cool would it be to have him as your godfather though? I'm sure no one believes the kid when he tells them, though.
roseviolet
I gotta agree with BustyGirl. When I hear "personal demons", my mind automatically translates it as "substance abuse" (although I guess his comic book collection could have gotten out of control or something, but whatever). Perhaps there's more to it, though. His career as slowed down dramatically over the last few years, while hers has taken off. That can create a ton of tension within a relationship, too.
bustygirl
Actually the kid is a she, but I'm sure no one believes her. I don't know how much of MM they see anymore, though.

Loads of smart, talented people have wasted their brains and lives on drugs. Money + easy access + permissive atmosphere occasionally = bad life choices. I'm much more surprised when someone famous isn't on drugs.
girltrouble
ok, you are killing me..."comic book collection got out of control", "bigger and better demons"lol.

yeah, i think mm is cool as for as interviews, he's obviously smart and articulate. don't care for his music, but i think concept wise, he's a genious. his willy wonka albums were super smart. but rose mcgowan (*crush*) who dated mm before 'the dita' said she loved him, but she wasn't into the whole "rockstar drug addict thing."

i am on the fence where dita is concerned. she seems like she uses the fetish/kink thing but she's not really kinky. she's a maniquin. but i have to say i am jealous of the clothes she gets to wear... super jealous...

Bowie turns 60 today!

bunnyb
And he doesn't look a day over 59.
mornington
*still would* wink.gif
karianne
I really wish Bowie hadn't gotten those new teeth. He does look rather young, doesn't he?
roseviolet
But Karianne, those teeth allow him to eat corn-on-the-cob without risk of embarassment.

Heh. I remember saying pretty much the same thing to my, ummm, supervisor back in 1991 when I was reading Albert Goldman's book on John Lennon. He looked surprised, then asked me if the only thing holding me back from a heroin addiction was a few million dollars. Fortunately, he didn't have the authority to regulate my pay smile.gif

The plot thickens... from People:

Marilyn Manson Dating Evan Rachel Wood

TUESDAY JANUARY 09, 2007 11:00 PM EST

By Ken Lee

Rocker Marilyn Manson is romantically involved with 19-year-old actress Evan Rachel Wood, sources close to the situation tell PEOPLE.

The sources say his relationship with the Thirteen actress was a factor in the Dec. 29 divorce filing by Dita Von Teese, 34, Manson's wife of one year.

"Dita is heartbroken, she didn't see this coming," says a source close to the burlesque dancer and MAC cosmetics model. "His partying contributed to the split as well."

Manson, 38, and Wood have been friends for some time. According to his official Web site, Manson first met Wood when he asked her to be in his upcoming horror film, Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll.

In addition, she posed for a watercolor that he painted, and attended the opening of his new Hollywood art gallery, the Celebritarian Corporation Gallery of Fine Art, last Halloween.

"It came as kind of a shock," Wood told Rolling Stone about being asked to pose. "I was beyond flattered."

Manson, who is currently in Paris, was unavailable for comment. A rep for Wood would not confirm the relationship. A spokeswoman for Von Teese did not return calls for comment.
greenbean
She would make a lovely watercolor subject, not sure that means they're involved though.
