for some reason, when i woke up this morning my brain started in with willie nelson singing "there's nothing quite like texas on a saturday night."

can't fathom why.
rogue
doodle, those are some amazing lyrics! Very powerful!

My current stuck-in-my-head songs are "If I Had You" by Adam Lambert (I know, I know), and also "I Would Do Anything For Love" by Meatloaf AND! "Don't Turn Around" by Ace of Base. I don't know why "Don't Turn Around", though - I haven't heard it in ages! Bah.

Ain't No Sunshine
crazyoldcatlady
omfg. does anyone ever have the experience of having a song--some random, out of the blue song--all of the sudden permeate their day? "ain't no sunshine" is one of those today. no less than 3 times today has it come on my radar in some form...
culturehandy
I have a few different versions on my ipod.

I said that I was totally addicted to Parov Stelar, I love love love the song A Night in Torino.

that is a great song... and his blueprint 3 got lukewarm reviews, but i rather like it. i think it's jay's most mature album yet.

i've been wondering how that cd is. i'm a little wary that it's going to be a little too tori cliche, if that makes sense.
jsmith
"Woke Up This Morning" by Alabama 3. I can't believe I didn't get the song before now. It kicks so much ass.
sassygrrl
"A Winter Carol." The new Tori Amos cd.
I may buy it. Right now, I'm previewing it on Youtube.
I didn't even know she had a new cd. I haven't bought anything from her in years.

Snow white boomers!
Racing Santa Claus thru the blazing sun!
Six white boomers!
Snow white boomers!
On his Australian run!

One of my friends posted a good song on her FB wall. Naomi Shelton and the Gospel Queens. The right kind of music for a snowy, stuck under the covers day.

When we swam our love to pieces
We washed up on messy beaches
You cleaned dry
I would not drift yet
I should drink salt water to forget
Oh why, oh why, oh why
Won’t you sing
Bring your hips to me
Oh bring your hips to me
Well once I arrived
But you would not receive me
I wanted it all
You could not tell
Then I paid expensive attention to detail
The fall of your face
The wish of the well
The rush of the push
The length of the spell
And you won’t
Bring your hips to me
Oh bring your hips to me
You tug so lightly on me
Work like you are on vacation
While I was swept wide
I wept for you across the nation
All my love I deny
When they place their hands
On both my sides

Turn on my V.C.R.
Same one I've had for years
James Brown on the T. A. M. I. show
Same tape I've had for years
I sit in my old car
Same one I've had for years
Old battery's running down
It ran for years and years

Turn on the radio
The static hurts my ears
Tell me where would I go
I ain't been out in years
Turn on the stereo
It's played for years and years
An Otis Redding song
It's all I own

When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around
When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around

Plug in my M.C.I
To exercise my brain
Make records on my own
Can't go out in the rain
Pick up the telephone
I've listened here for years
No one to talk to me
I've listened here for years

When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around
When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around

When I feel lonely here
Don't waste my time with tears
I run 'Deep Throat' again
It ran for years and years
Don't like the food I eat
The cans are running out
Same food for years and years
I hate the food I eat
When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around
When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around

When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around
When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around

Turn on my V.C.R.
Same one I've had for years
James Brown on the T. A. M. I. show
Same tape I've had for years

This is what happens when you watch your kid's movies with them.

The chorus to a song from Madagascar II for at least three days now. I wake up with it in my head.

"She like my eyes,
She thinks I'm funky.
She like my thighs,
She like me chunky."

Those of you who have heard the song know EXACTLY why it's stuck in my head. Ooh, that Barry White-ish voice...
jade
Beyonce singing the etta james song, I would rather go blind---to all those busties who are missing and havent been here in a while--we miss you. shinyx3 come back

The Weight, the Aretha Franklin version.
joeyhansom
that Lady Gaga song "romance". today i did yoga for the first time, and we were chanting something like "sa ta ra ma" or something like that, and then "ra ra, ah ah ah" popped into my head. ugh!

The Pretenders - Night in My Veins. I think I'm-a gonna have to learn to play it. wink.gif
RoxieRage
I have the song Losin' You by Jan Terri stuck in my head. Awful singing, awful video, but catchy lyrics and tune. She's a local artist (for Chicago) who tried to get a music career in the 80s and early 90s and was on the Jon Stewart show in a segment a while ago. It's hard to tell if she really takes herself seriously or not.
stargazer
Ugh. I hate when I start singing random songs out of nowhere. I started to sing Drivin' N' Cryin's Fly Me Courageous while surfing the 'net. blink.gif
snarky7
I blame my son for this one....."Push It To the Limit" by Corbin Bleu keeps running thru my mind. That and the Charleston-esque song "Wikked Lil Grrrls" by Esthero.
auralpoison
OMG! Fly Me Courageous! I haven't thought of that in years! That is some Dave Kendall 120Minutes shit!

Weirdly, what's been sticking in my head completely unbidden when I first awake has been bad late eighties/early nineties pop. The other morning it was "King of Wishful Thinking" & the day before that the Jets. Seriously. The FUCKING JETS. I remember being given that CASSETTE by my parents at my swank thirteenth birthday dinner at the Pizza Hut. Pan Pizza & salad bar & the Jets.

I am assuming Corbin Bleu is some tween pop person; he has a name that sounds like he's a star on some kind of twink porn site.
damona
ok, i have this fucked up mix of the theme song from "weeds" and salt 'n' peppa "let's talk about sex" going on in my head.

and now, (thanks ap tongue.gif ) it's got "the king of wishful thinking" mashed in there, too. argh!
auralpoison
Fleetwood Mac "The Chain". I HATE Fleetwood Mac with a passion. Hate it. But "The Chain" has been in my head relentlessly for two days.
snarky7
wow ap! The Jets?! I remember that one! and Corbin Bleu, indeed a tween pop star....no I did not say porn star, back up and re-read.... tongue.gif

Yesterday was an 80s rewind, fabu stuff there, but still winning out at the moment:

"If I could write you a song to make you fall in love....." I do love Cooler Than Me by Mike Posner
pants
Are the Jets the brother and sisters who sang I've Got a Crush on You with the video where the sister who sang was a diner waitress? If so, I loved them. I think that was my first ever cassette tape, straight from Columbia House
stargazer
For all the Busties in here, The Jets' Crush on You!

snarky7
Awesome, stargazer! but GAWD...why did we think fluffy hair, bad jackets and shoulderpads were EVER in style?
pants
Okay I was confusing my videos. Same band different song. I don't know how I could have been so very, very foolish.
I was thinking of You Got It All I forgot how the object of her affection lit up with christmas lights and disappeared

Thanks for the link Stargazer

Um, I read it correctly the first time.

"You Got It All" FTW!

"fast car" by tracy chapman.

The Boy and i have been looking for new songs for him to learn on his acoustic guitar. we've started doing cheesy 90's pop songs in a folk-y way. he plays and sings, i sing. you should hear our version of britney's "hit me baby (one more time)" tongue.gif we kick ass.

i welcome suggestions, btw...
snarky7
Hey ap - I am sorry if that came out wrong - I was trying, unsuccessfully, to be funny. tongue.gif

damona - funny one by Jonathan Coulton - Baby Got Back - try this link for tabs:

and click the link near the top to listen to it free on jango - too funny!
auralpoison
Oh, no problem, I just wanted to clarify that I did indeed get it. I actually looked the kid up & listened to a bit of it. It was akin to pouring treacle in my ear canals. Never again, I say!

Lil Mama - Lipgloss. It's on my bike jam.
stargazer
OoOoO, good choice, AP! Your lipgloss be poppin'.
foryoursplendor
I second that, Lip Gloss is THE shit! It is also on my bike music list.
auralpoison
Oh, the HORROR!
snarky7
ACK ap! now that will NOT be leaving my head for awhile! tongue.gif

I went to my first drive-in movie last night - so needless to say, I keep singing "Stranded at the drive-in...branded a fool...."
shinyx3
*struts in and sings at top of lungs* i'm just a teenage dirtbag baby! *leaves but not after getting morning train stuck in head. damn! *

They Might Be Giants - Birdhouse In Your Soul

It is amazing how something linked to music never leaves your brainsis. This is how we should be teaching stuff to kids because twenty years later I still know every lyric to this song.
sybarite
But I'm a little glowing friend...

Sheena Easton? Really? AP, what did we ever do to you? At least The Jets were kind of glorious in their unabashed 80s-ness...

I've been listening to BR all day. Enjoy.

i've had "hey ya" by outkast stuck in my head for days. this version of it, anyway.

"I Was Born to Sing Sad Songs" is my favorite new tune by my favorite new band, Agent Ribbons. (Natalie Gordon initially wrote the song for tourmates Cake but wisely decided to keep it for herself.) You'll be able to read all about Agent Ribbons in the next issue of BUST, but please take this opportunity to listen to them right now! And if you like the ballad, you might wanna check out their cool little rocker "I'm Alright".
foryoursplendor
I've had this ridiculous viral video song in my head for WEEKS. Back it up, Back it up, Back it up!! Listen with care. You've been warned.

Beck - "Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime".
sybarite
I love Beck's version of that song AP--used to haunting effect in both Eternal Sunshine and Whedon's Dollhouse. I play it back on the odd wine-informed midnight.
