If you go to Walgreens website, you can order it online, by giving them your doctors information and phone number. I PERSONALLY, didn't complete my order, because I'm waiting to see what success I have with the vaginal Flagyl. BUT, just because you can order online, doesn't mean it's available. I checked online right now, and it's been discontinued IN THE UK. It's still available in the states. Here's a couple of websites also that I found where you can order it.

Thank you for the website information. I called a second walgreens pharmacy and asked them why is the ACI-JEL still in your library if it is discontinued and why is it still available to purchase online. He was very helpful he called the manufacturer direct and sure enough it has been discontinued meaning that they will not make anymore of this product. So he says that all pharmacies and websites who are selling it will just continue to sell it until they have no more so when they have completely sold all of this product there will be no more. So I asked the pharmacist if they will replace this product with a better one or new name (you know how those pharmaceutical companies are) and he said that they have not released any information regarding this product. He also told me to keep checking other pharmacies to see if they have it in stock and call my doctor back
and tell him where the product is then he will prescribe it for me(cheaper that way because all I would have to do is pay a co-pay).My doctor already approved that he will prescribe it for me I just have to locate it at a pharmacy.
I am still using the "Yeast Arrest" and it is still working GREAT...NO SMELL AT ALL STILL AFTER ONE WEEK laugh.gif laugh.gif rolleyes.gif ... So I will continue with this and keep you updated. I just wanted to have ACI-JEL in my aresenal of products to use for this chronic bv. Also, I am continuing to take the Primadophillus and eating yogurt and no deodorant pantiliners what so ever. This is not a cure and who knows if they will ever find an absolute cure but until then however you get relief MORE POWER TO YOU....
I will be around...
Thank you Jewelscando.. If I cannot get it through a prescription then I will go online ..Thanks

justanothergirl: No, tell everyone what works for you! Maybe someone else can benefit from just douching. I wish that had been the case for me but I had it bad. It was horrible! Anyway, stay on the board and let everyone know what you've tried and what you plan on doing next. wink.gif

bvgirl- I don't actually have name-brand aci-jel just the generic equivalent "acidic vaginal jelly" because it's cheaper. Hopefully this generic version is going to continue to be made because with all the research done to prove that the pH is the key to all of this WHY THE FUCK WOULD THEY WANT TO TAKE IT AWAY!?!?!?!?!?!
sorry, but it makes me very angry that everyone seems to be against us and actively trying to prevent us from curing this!
bvgirl
Hello Eralc Alegna...
I know exactly what you mean mad.gif mad.gif even though I have not used the product yet but what I am reading so far is that it works and I dont see why it would not because it keeps the ph balance normal. I will continue to bother pharmacist and find out more about this discontinued status. Like I stated before I would really be content with any product as long as it is working for me and provides relief with that being said I also think that since there is not an exact cure and or an exact product that would help us all I do believe that we should all continue to try out and research products to bring relief from this bv.
I am glad that some have found a product that works well for them and those who have not please, please continue to try out products and continue reading this board you will find some relief eventually. This board has been very very helpful..
I am glad that the yeast arrest has been a relief for me so far(NO SMELL AT ALL) biggrin.gif biggrin.gif smile.gif but I will not limit myself to just one product because well I just want to have what is available so I can fight this bv war strong...
I will be around
Take care & Keep on trying out products....Relief is near...

Hello girls. I just finished reading this entire thread. It took me 2 days. I found it while doing a search for personal experiences with Clindesse. Allow me to tell my story. It will be long.

I'm 21 years old and over a year ago I had a really bad sinus infection and was treated for six weeks with 4,000mg of Augmenting per day. It got rid of the infection and I took diflucan for the yeast and all seemed well. At around this same time I had to have laser surgery on my vulva for a precancerous condition called VIN. (This is a condition that is prevalent among women in their 50s and older but since I am an alcoholic and a smoker-just quit about a month ago-I developed it at a very young age.) Shortly after my surgery and about 3 months after my antibiotics I went on a 3 month long drinking binge. The heaviest of my life...I became ill and when I quit the drinking the symptoms got worse. I put on so much weight and my hair was falling out on my head but I was getting hair other places like my face. My eyebrows were falling out too. Always soooooo fatigued. I also got what I KNEW were yeast infections. Thick white discharge, odorless, burning, seemed to respond to diflucan. Well about 6 months after I became ill things seemed to settle down (a little too much in some aspects). My head hair started falling out less but eyebrows still keep falling out and my body hair grows SLOOOOOOW and I'm still so fatigued. Then I met someone and became sexually active for the first time in a year. But I was having pain during sex and getting white discharge. The discharge never drips into my underwear. I have to get a mirror and look in there and I can see a thick, smooth, white discharge. Its way up there and its completely odorless so I thought yeast. I also noticed though, that when I got sexually aroused my secretions were crystal clear. Anyway, I would take diflucan but the burning was still there. I've been tested for autoimmune diseases, diabetes and thyroid disorders. All of my tests say I'm perfectly healthy. Until I went to this new doctor a couple of months ago who did a complete blood count and found that my white blood cell count was elevated which is indicative of a continued infection. So she put me on amoxicillin for 2 weeks. Still no improvement in symptoms. Next, Augmentin for 10 days. Still nothing. But I did continue to have what I thought was yeast, so I called my doctor and he prescribed 7 day terazol and more diflucan. I did that, and on my last night of the terazol I drank and had sex...the next day the burning was TERRIBLE. This time I really had to go in and get a diagnosis, so I went to my doc, he did a wet prep and lo and behold yeast. I'd had it confirmed, I'd been suffering with yeast this whole time. Or so I thought, I suppose. So he gave me more diflucan and this new one dose stuff called gynazole. I scheduled a follow up appointment with him 2 weeks later to make sure this stuff was GONE! And while I was on the yeast meds I took garlic and cut out ALL carbs. The burning subsided substantially but I still had this vague burning, like the burning I'd been feeling for the past year and 3 months...So I just KNEW the "yeast" was still there, just probably in a tamer state. I went to the appointment and he looked in there and said it looked like the yeast was still there. He informed me that he was going to do TWO tests. First a wet prep and then this new DNA test that is definite. He said with this test I either have yeast or I don't. Well the wet prep came back negative for anything so I went home and waited for them to call me with the results of this new DNA test. They called and guess what this sensitive test had picked up? Gardnerella. I suspect that the entire time I and my gyno (even my obyn oncologist was giving me visual diagnoses of yeast) had been treating me for yeast I actually had this the entire time. I've been prescribed Clindesse and diflucan but after all that I've been through with the drinking and the antibiotics, after all the drinking I did, after reading about all of you here, and because I'm still sick with some mysterious condition I'm sure that I'm probably going to be fighting this to the death. I'm sorry this was SOOOOOOOOO long but I wanted to give you my background. I've also noticed that since I've been on the Clindesse that I've even had an improvement in my urinary tract. Before it seemed that I had a UTI all the time (despite negative results on urinalysis). I was having urinary frequency/mild burning inability to empty properly, and what looked like tissue paper in my urine for the entire time that I've had these "yeast" infections and I just now am starting to feel that I can pee normally! Although I won't keep my hopes up. This Clindesse seems to be leaking out constantly and I just took it yesterday. The Gynazole uses the exact same technology and I don't remember any leakage at all. But then again I did start my period about 8 days after I took it. Its just messed up that even after the 2 wet preps and after all the paps that I've had that it took a highly sensitive "DNA test" to catch this stuff. I wonder why? I also wanted to mention that I've just recently been diagnosed with cervical dysplasia as well and go in for a colposcopy on the 19th. Ok! Ok! I'll shut up now. Once again I'm sorry. lol. Thank you for taking your valuable time to read this. I'll be sticking around to let you know how everything goes.

I do have a couple of questions before I go. Do you think its likely, that since I've had this for so long, that I really could end up battling this for a long time? Or do you think its possible that the Gardnerella wasn't caught till now because its low grade therefore easier to manage? I also was wondering if most of you here were actually diagnosed as having the Gardnerella variety of BV or something else. Thanks again!

[Edit] I take back what I said about being able to pee normally. That seems to have only lasted about a day and half...It doesn't burn but my stream is weird and I don't seem to be emptying as much. Oh, well....

Hello Morpia..

To answer your question I believe and it has been reported that you can have bv and not have all or any symptons. A little background about me: I have been dealing with bv since I was about 25 and I am 35 now. I have been diagnosed with all of the below since 25: Vaginitis,Vulvovaginitis,Gardenerella,Dysplasia,Acute Vaginitis,Non-Specific Vaginitis...
So apparently, it appears to me that they have a wide terminalogy for BV they just like to dress it up with different names when actually it is BV. It just makes me sick that they have created all these names for the same problem but do not have an exact cure for this ph imbalance. If they know that it is directly related to our ph balance and how to maintain it why can they not find and or create a medicine that will fix this. Some of the doctors we go to have no answers to this but yet in still they look at us like we are crazy or just dismiss it. I got a piece of advice for those health professions who look at us strange or care not to help us they should just quit and leave it to the real professional who want to help us...I wonder where they are because I have ben going to the gyno since I was 16 and I have not ran into any who take an active role into helping me with whatever questions I have I always had to ask my girlfriends or even my mother. If they just stop looking at us as a number and money in their pockets then maybe we will be respected more as women with real concerns who want real answers.

All I can say ladies is just hang in there and keep looking into other products that can at least help you periodically with these symptoms. I know I am...

FYI to all -

I went in today to pick up my aci-jel refill and asked the pharmacist about the discontinuation. She looked something up and said that it appears that aci-jel in it's jelly form will be discontinued (again, i get a generic "acidic vaginal jelly" that apparantly is still and will still *fingers crossed* be manufactured) but that they will begin to or continue to make a douche. I have never heard of an acidic douche to regulate pH levels, but she made it sound as if the makers of aci-jel produce one.

Just thought I'd clear that up as much as I could for those interested. I don't know where the douche is available though.

P.S. while I still have no smell and minimal/normal discharge, I PANIC every time i feel any present. It doesn't seem to produce evenly throughout the day but instead comes in little noticable blobs (for lack of a better word). Every time i feel anything I have to go run and check to see if it looks and smells normal. While I am fixed currently and SOOOO relieved, the fear of it returning at any moment constantly plauges me!

Thank you Eralc for that information. I called Walgreens and talked with the pharmacist and yes he has the generic brand in stock and it is available. So I have to call my doctor in the morning and tell him that a generic brand is available. What I dont understand is why they could not research or at least check out to see if a generic brand was available? They do it for other prescriptions.. Well, I really appreciate the information...

Well just to update everyone, after using the one dosage of Clindesse cream, I still have not gotten the smelly discharge, however my clear regular discharge kind of has a faint cat food smell.. lol cat food is all I think of when I smell it. Is this a normal smell??? It's like sweat mixed with faint cat food.. blink.gif

I was told that it's should smell like sea salt but I don't know if that's correct!

Well, the vagina does have a smell and that is normal. But when it smells foul I believe that is a common sign of an imbalanced ph and or it may be an std. But from my experience and what I was told and read a foul odor is not normal.

Hey, Bubba. After you used the Clindesse did you notice a fair amount of leakage the first 3 days? The first day especially. Every time I went to the bathroom I could hear it plopping into the toilet. Today is day 4 and I haven't noticed any leakage at all.

Here's a little piece of info that I just found. "Use 100% cotton folded cloth during your periods and not pads or tampons." Apparently it worked for two women that I know of. The lady also mentioned not wearing underwear at night but that has already been mentioned here.
bvgirl
I have to say that wearing no underwear at all (of course not during my menstrual)( and since I have not had any smell for two weeks) has been working for me because I will be able to smell the odor right away if and when it comes back. It somewhat helps in monitoring when the smell down there becomes strong. Of course you can smell it with underwear on but when you are having good days and what you are using has been working it gives you some freedom and much much needed air down there. Also,I have learned not to use any deodorant pads and or pantiliners the fragrance can and will irritate and cause problems. So,if you are wearing the deodorant pads and using sprays and you have the smell down there discontinue using these products and see if the smell clears up because irritants can also bring about the foul smell.
pianogirl
Hey Ladies,

I still have no smell. I just wanted to say that I try not to wear underwear and opt to wear dresses and skirts as opposed to pants / jeans. It is true we need to let down there breathe smile.gif and I do find it far easier to see if the smell has come back or if there was a smell. Last summer I wore lots of dresses and I used to smell sweat on occasion like an oniony smell. I thought my BV was clear because it wasnt the fishy/sea smell but it wasnt it was just a different smell.

Anyway I just wanted to share that I try not to wear underwear with my dresses and skirts (unless the day or even calls for underwear i.e. business meeting or a windy day).

Thanks,

PG

I will have to agree on that! I have been using the yeast arrest also in efforts to fight this and it seems to be working for me. After like 2 days the symptoms were fading and now i find they are nearly gone not even a full week into the process. Lets hope this helps others if they try it and myself.

PG: I have that oniony smell too! Blah. I'm glad that you had success with the Estroil.

So... I've been inserted a 500mg flagyl every night (for about 9 nights now), and I still have the BV. I'm going to keep using it until this bottle runs out... this thing HAS to go.

It's funny though... no yeast infection whatsoever. Still the BV; it's been oniony for a while now. Also, I haven't had sex since I've started using the pills... oy. We'll see.

Great to hear that yeast arrest is working for you too.. laugh.gif laugh.gif This is my second week using it and still no smell. Just after one suppository the smell disappeared. So I am very happy it is working great and happy for you and all who find relief in this product. I hope it lasts. laugh.gif Either way I will continue to use it and if you read the insert inside it says that after the second week,we should continue to use it only during our menstrual and repeat this for 4-5 months or 4-5 menstrual cycles.. If I am not mistaken.

another new format, least its like the old one!

Well of course our vagina does have a smell to it and that is considered to be normal. I guess only when it has a foul smell then that is when we need to be alarmed. As far as the good bacteria taking over and it emits a garlic smell that would be something I would do more research on and since our bodies are different that may just be your normal smell. Getting to know your normal smell and when it is not normal is an ongoing process. If you are like me I am constantly smelling myself down there making sure I know exactly when and or if the foul smell comes back.

Hey gals, I was Googling around and I found this article:

Seems interesting. Anyone know of this stainless steel thing they're speaking of? And if so, if such a thing can be purchased? It couldn't hurt...

More Googling: the Odor Steeler. Apparently the chefs at Zabar's are nuts about it. (And judging from their lovely fish counter, they would know!)

thank you neverending, well then obviously its not good advice for me to tell anyone else to use douche....just i cant find anything that works either..but when I use that..it temporarily takes the smell away...I used it 5 days ago..and have not had the smell since..it WILL return..and very soon..but those 5 days without..im grateful for....the way I think of it..is that its the discharge that is causing the order...so if you clean/rinse out the discharge..u get a break from the smell for a bit..until it has time for more to accumulate. (stupid sounding im sure...) but in my case it provides a few days relief. Until i find a cure for it.
Thank you for the welcome thou....been here for a long time..just been silent ...might go back to that lol so i dont give bad advice smile.gif

I have been on that site you bought yours from but since I was so very anxious to try it out I got it from a local health food store. The owner told me that the maker of yeast arrest is a woman who has a line of many other products to cater to our needs.

Yes I did feel the leakage. It took a while for the cream to clear out completely.. I was beginning to get scared of it.. thinking I should clea it out myself lol. But I didn't.

Read that. I bought some of the Primadophilus Reuteri Pearls by Nature's Way from Vitacost. But I don't think it has the same strains of Rhamnosus and Reuteri that the Jarrow Fem dophilus has. Its just that the Fem dophilus is so much more expensive. 15 bucks for 30 caps. The Primadophilus was about $18 for 60.

I also wanted to add, that I've been on this Clindesse for 5 days now and for the first time in my life I'm detecting a faint fishy odor. Is this supposed to happen? Are antibiotics known to make things worse?!
NotCatEyed
hey ladies,
After weeks more of waiting and HP rinses, the flagyl arrived and I inserted some last night before bed. I felt good, positive, hopeful. But then I had a teeny tiny drink tonight, and right away I spent a half hour on the toilet. Lovely, really, especially with a house full of guests over. How embarrassing!? I still feel hella queezy and terrible. ugh. So I think I'll hold off on a second dose until tomorrow.

I just wanted to reiterate my pain so no one else makes the same stupid move. No drinking/drugs + these evil antibiotics. I mean I was really miserable for hours and I'm worried I may have screwed more up down there. I will relay the results of the flagyl, if i can recover and try again after 24 hrs.

Hello Morphia

I have been using the Primadophilus Bifidus which has 5 billion live organisims ( I believe they suggest that we take 2 billion on up) so 5 billion is good. I am not familiar with the Primadophilus Reuteri and since it costs more maybe because it contains a much higher count of live organisims. Just make sure it is enteric coated.
Also, I am not too familiar with Clindesse but I know for a fact that antibiotics are known to destroy the good bacteria which then makes the bad bacteria multiply causing ph problems/bv/yeast infections. That is why they suggest that whenever you take any antibiotic you should take acidophilus. I perfer the Primadophilus because of the higher live organism count. I paid $22 for a 90 count bottle. Just make sure you read the labels and if I were you I would not spend money on products that have less than 2 billion and are not enteric coated. If you are like me I prefer the potent stuff. I am still researching other products so I am still in the infancy stage with all this information. I have been taking yeast arrest and it has been working GREAT.. Also, I continue to drink lots of water each day. I got information from a fellow friend on here about acidic vaginal jelly how it has helped out many with bv. So just keep on reading this board and when I find out new information and or about a product I will post it here. I will also keep you updated on my bv and so far no smell since I started the yeast arrest. So hang in there Clindesse is not the only product if it is not working for you there is lots more we just have to go through this trial and error process...

Hey. I just had a quick question. I was wondering if anyone in here had a weakened immune system that they were aware of. As in thyroid disorders, diabetes, autoimmune disease, etc. I'm just curious as to whether or not recurrent BV can be due to a weak immune system since mine obviously is compromised. But the more I read the more I see that it just has to do with an imbalance of vaginal flora or pH. Can a weakened immune system cause the good bacteria to die off? Doesn't really make sense...

My doctor ordered a complete bloodwork and urine tests which included an HIV,diabetes, lupus, thyroid just to name a few. Everything checked out fine.Every year he orders bloodwork just to make sure all is still fine or I request them and the latest test was to just do a routine check of my thyroids and cholesterol and also a blood count to make sure that I have not become anemic. He did tell me (at that time I was three years into chronic bv) that a weakened immune system can cause you lots of problems and or infections that do not clear up like they should. I also read that persons with HIV and other weakened immune system are more susceptible to infections. I will say this you may have to pressure your doctor into ordering bloodwork if he or she seems against it or have no motivation to test you for possible diseases. It is better to know. As far as our bv problem, yes I agree with you that it is more ph problems than anything..That is what I truly believe.

Yeah, I was told immune weakness is a possible reason for recurrent infections, but I also tested negative for all the bad ones. I will say however that taking immune system booster herbs has helped me in the past. Echinacea, Vit. C, zinc, garlic, oil of oregano, and a multi vitamin helps with keeping your body strong. I don't remember to take all of them everyday...but I should.
There was one study I read that said women using a garlic suppository alone were significantly less likely to be cured than women using garlic suppositories and echinacea. That was enough for me,in terms of power of suggestion, and I went out and bought an arsenal of herbs and vitamins.
I'm going on a trip to China and I am going to try(with my minimal chinese) to buy some herbs there that are supposed to help with this situation. Any suggestions ladies? The more the better.

Alright guys...its day seven and I pretty much know in my heart that the Clindesse did NOT work. I guess all of the yeast treatments I took over the past year and a half has created a force to be reckoned with. A monster that will consume my life. I'll go get it checked out first, but when the test comes back positive I'm going to break up with my boyfriend. Its better to break up with him than have him leave me over this. Which I know he will even though he's being very supportive right now. Things like this take a toll on people. He's only been with me for 3 months. Why stay with me when he can easily find some other girl that can give him what he needs? We haven't had sex in over a month... I'm sorry guys, I'm just so crushed right now. I feel that my life is over...

Also, I haven't had sex since I've started using the pills... oy. We'll see.

DEPRIME: Where did you get the pills. I find it really hard to believe that you have had no success with this, AND NO YEAST!!! You might want to make sure you're stuff is for real, because, I'm on my third week of no smell, after only using 2 PILLS!!! I went 2 months, remember, then had sex, and started smelling it, so I inserted a couple more. But, it takes it away for me, completely!!!!

Anyone ever heard of Clearly Natural Soaps? I found it at my drugstore while I was waiting for my prescription to be filled. I bought three bars from their Essentials line (all the store carried) which contains...."Nature's nutrients: vegetable glycerine + pure essential oils." Sound good for the girly parts???

Here's a link to their website: http://www.clearlynaturalsoaps.com/

hello, ladies. just an update. before my period i inserted 2 500mg of the flagyl. i felt like i got a yeast infection so after my period was over, i treated it with yeast gard, which is homeopathic and all natural for a yeast infection. then once i was done with that i used rephresh. i used the rephresh last night. so far i don't really have much discharge and i don't smell anything. i'm just kind of itchy. i'm wondering if the yeast gard wasn't enough to get rid of the yeast infection and maybe i'll have to go with something that's not "all natural" or if it's just from the rephresh because i just put it in last night. i also had sex for the first time in a while last night and i still have no smell or discharge today. i'm going to keep using the rephresh and if the itching doesn't go away i'll treat it as a yeast infection again, bv never made me itch before so i'm sure it's a yeast infection. i think this might have worked. hopefully the rephresh will keep everything normal.

thanks to everyone for suggestions and advice and i hope everyone who hasn't already found relief from this does soon.

oh and i was reading different posts about the "oniony" smell. i've gotten that before too. i've gotten it when i was sweaty or towards the end of the day. i've also gotten it when i drink alcohol. it's always gone away after i showered. i don't think that's something to worry about unless it's there constantly. i think it's just from being sweaty or from what you eat (or drink.)

Sounds like Yeast to me. One thing I want to warn everyone about, because I made the same mistake myself. When using the Flagyl vaginally, DON'T HAVE SEX!!! This will cause a major yeast infection!! I treated mine with a 3 day monistat, and it was gone, along with the B.V.!!

I'm still SMELL FREE!! I did have sex today, and NO SMELL!!

thanks jewels, i'll probably do the 3 day monistat too. i waited for 2 weeks after i inserted the flagyl to have sex but i think the yeast infection wasn't gone and having sex just made it worse. anyway, the instructions on the rephresh say that it stays on the vaginal walls for 3 days so i'll wait 3 or 4 days and then use the monistat. i don't want all these different things up there at once!

Jewels: I got the pills from the local Walgreens! Here's my update: After inserting one 500mg pill each night for 10 consecutive nights, I stopped. I still have some discharge (which may me normal for me), but it's NOT SMELLY AT ALL. Yay!!

And, no yeast infection. If it comes back, I'll be inserting another...but for now I'm loving my life!

Thanks for the tip and good luck ladies!

I have been using yeast arrest for a couple of weeks and no foul bv smell at all.. I too have that oniony smell. I don't think we should be alarmed about it. It is not foul smelling so I believe that it can be considered as normal.

I went on that site and although I have not finished reading it, I read that when we choose to use any products for our kitty it is suggested to use ph balanced(because soap is not and is an irritant) no colors,hypo-allergenic. I have read where products say that they are natural but does not mean it is sensitive enough for our kitty it is best to make sure to read the ingredients. I have been using summers eve from time to time and I am planing to switch to sweetspotslabs products because it is made especially for us women who need to keep our ph balanced and or having problems with other feminine wash products. I do not douche at all I know some may but for me when I started at age 16 and soon after had problems which I believe may had eventually lead to an imbalanced ph. So I will try this sweetspot soon. Here is the website.

i just wanted to say that for the first time in a veryyy long time, today i am wearing just underwear with no panty liner! i've never been this dry and comfortable. i've always had to wear liners for the discharge but right now i have none. biggrin.gif i didn't do the monistat because i don't really feel itchy anymore. we'll see how i feel today and maybe i will just do it anyway to make sure.

deprime i'm glad yours finally went away. 10 nights though! i guess the flagyl inserted vaginally works just in different amounts for some people.

i inserted the flagyl pills a little over 2 weeks ago and i've been ok since then!
