I'm sorry you're feeling so bad neverending!! Everyone's right, we can all relate!!!

Well, my Flagyl finally came in today. Only took 3 FRICKEN months to get here. I'm worried that it's the wrong stuff. It says, Metronidazol Lisan. And, it's from Costa Rica. And the pills are yellow, not white. The whole package is in another language.

DAMMIT!!!!

Mine are yellow to and say flagyl on the pill. I used them and no smell.

Is your discharge green? Did she mention anything about a strawberry looking cervix? Did she send anything to the lab or did she just off the top of her head say "Ah, I think you have trich"? I swear doctor's make me sick! Trich is something that's very noticable under a microscope. It's a parasite that moves around by it's flagella. You can't miss it. I should know! I loved when we got swabs in like this because I loved to watch them swim around under the microscope. It's very interesting.

Here is a link at youtube so you can see what they look like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RKDBd8Dpp0
Now, you tell me if that's not noticable.

Jewels & CanCan: Thanx for the support!
Konphusion26: Honey, I thought it would never end. That's why I named myself neverending.
TOOMUCH21: I love sex also. Funny thing, I think everyone here loves sex too. We had a guy Jason34 or Jason44 come here and he said his wife had bv and she loved sex also. Funny! To keep the smell away try Boric acid. When did this problem start for you? What kind of BC are you on? Have you been tested for all stds? Are your paps normal? Sorry so many questions.
fbgirl987: Do not wear anything tight and stay away from thongs.

my discharge has always been a yellow/green color. and she said inside my vagina was very red and raw including my cervix. she looked at it under a microscope... she couldn't see clearly because i though i had a yeast infection because i had more burning and itching than i've ever had so i used monistat and there was still some cream left. so i'm going back next week to get examined again just to check for anything else. hopefully i'll be all clear then. is there a chance of taking the 2g of metronidazole and the trich not going away.

Hi everyone! new here, found this topic in a search. My issue is i'm in my third trimester of pregnancy. My doc prescribed me the metrodazinole vaginal gel. After reading some stuff about taking it during pregnancy I got scared and have not used it. Now I am 2 weeks from my due date and the smell is horrific, I am going to be sooooo embarrased to deliver the baby with this foul odor in everyones nose length!!

Has ANYONE used this vaginal gel so close to term without problems?? I am just scared to be "shooting" this medication directly towards the babys head!! But i've got to do something about this odor...

Uhm, why don't you try something less harsh like Rephresh. That should help!

Just went out today and bought some Rephresh. It didnt work for me last time, but i'm desperate. LOL Fingers and toes crossed!!!

How do I tell my friend that she reeks?!? The other day I went into the bathroom after she was done, and I almost died in there. Maybe it's a combination b.v. and sweat? I don't know, and I don't know how her man goes to town on her. He probably doesn't know better or is too nice to say anything.

Please use tact and empathy. Put yourself in her situation and imagine if someone went in a bathroom after you and "almost died in there" how you would want them to break the news to you. Be sensitive to her feelings because if she does indeed have BV then she is probably already an emotional wreck right now and the last thing she needs is a someone telling her in a rude way that her girly bits reek.

God I am depressed over this. Everytime I think there might be some light at the end of the tunnel my symptoms come back. I see a new GYN on Monday. I am hoping for a miracle.
Ladies...a few Questions...
1.) am I the only one that has been diagnosed as having BV but has more discomfort than foul odor? I dont know if its the meds or what but I dont SMELL as bad as I feel...alot of irritation and sensitivity.
2.) They did a STD test but I am still worried there is something else going on because I cant kick this infection....I know they tested for Gonnoreah and Chlamydia...but can I have herpes and not have sores? I mean...they would have seen that by now right? I have no visible sores on the outside at all.

SO depressed over this. I swear it is all-consuming. I am angry and sad and losing all hope here. I have never had an infection like this. I went on antibiotics in October for strep throat and havent been the same since sad.gif

I was diagnosed with BV, no smell---but eventually very bad burning occurred---I couldn't wear underwear, etc. As it turns out, in addition to BV, I also had a yeast infection that was undetected in the wet-prep slides my gyno took. It wasn't a "typical" form of yeast, either, so Diflucan & the prescription anti-yeast creams didn't touch it. It wasn't until I used boric acid-in-capsules inserted vaginally every night for 14 days that things (both the BV and the yeast) began to clear up.
I, too, thought I had all kinds of weird things, but it was just a non-Albicans strain of Candida.

Best wishes,
Maggie

The boric isn't that bad but be careful of allergic reactions.

Hi Maggie...thanks so much. I feel less alone because of your answer. I read how everyone has this odor and I think wtf is it I have (sorry- language). I have so much discomfort. Underwear hurt. Jeans- forget it! The only thing possible is skirts and baggy PJ pants which I live in these days.
I bought the boric acid suppositories today, waiting for them to deliver it...have a dr appt on monday. anything i should suggest based on what you had? I mean...they have ruled out everything else but they keep saying BV and treating with Clindesse which only helps for a few days.... dry.gif This is a new Dr though so fingers crossed.
DId they give you anything or was it just the boric acid that helped??

thanks again maggie

I had a super gyn who agreed that some forms of yeast are very difficult to detect ...the BV creams(antibiotics) just cause MORE yeast to grow, so he agreed that boric acid would be worth a try. What he did was to actually prescribe capsules to be made up at a local compounding pharmacy. But if you don't have one in your area (or prefer the ordering online method) most any source will do, including making up your own capsules. The compounding pharmacy in my area, who filled the prescription, made the capsules up with a "filler" of powdered acidophilus (probiotic/good bacteria). The idea was that since boric acid will kill off some of the good vaginal flora/bacteria, it could be partially replenished by the filler acidophilus. I recommend taking (orally) Femdophilus probiotic (buy online) along with using the boric acid vaginally. (Dr. Gregor Reed, the patent-holder on the strains of lactobacilli in the Femdophilus has proven those strains' effectiveness at colonizing the vagina.)

Wear a panty liner while using the boric acid--it leaks out. Also, if your outer labia tissues are irritated & sore, the leaking boric acid may aggravate that while it's healing the infections. I used a thin layer of vaseline on the outer parts (only) to protect them from the acid. But surprisingly, it doesn't make the burning in the vagina worse--it actually seems almost soothing.
If this seems to help you, ask me for advice on how to maintain the results so the infections don't come back. It's been 18 months since mine went away!
Hugs,
Maggie

Of course I will be tactful. I just don't know how to bring it up to her. She is even more sensitive now because of her hormone flux (she's pregnant).

Yea, I probably came off like a little 16 y.o. airhead in my initial post, but I was a ball of emotion dealing with other things.

Maggie...thanks for giving me hope. I have become seriously down over all this. I am going to talk to the Dr on Monday about the diff strains of yeast....explain to him that I have been treated for whatever the usual strain is (monistat and diflucan- two rounds of both) and Clindesse for BV. Maybe if he understands the typical treatments haven't worked- he will be open to the idea of the boric acid. All I can do is hope at this point.
The outer area is very irritated so I will def try the vaseline to coat it. Seems any cream they give burns on the outside and that makes detecting progress next to impossible...
Anyways- I am going to mention to the Dr that I 'Knew' someone who had this problem and see if he will look a little closer. Sometimes they think they just 'KNOW' right away and I don't think they really search...

Thanks again...I will let you know how it goes on Monday

If you are alergic to any type of sulfer, ie. anti biotics called Bactrim, DO NOT USE BORIC ACID. Boric Acid has Sulfer in it, which I'm highly alergic. Developed a rash on my arms, forehead and face.

Well, I told you all that I got the Flagyl in the mail and was worried. Well, it worked. I only used it one night, vaginally, and had sex two nights later. ZERO SMELL.

I don't know why this works so well for me, but, I'm going to keep it going!

I'll say a prayer that things go well for you Monday, OK? I'd give you my gyno's name & phone number so your doc could talk to him, but unfortunately he killed himself last summer! He was such a help to so many women...we really lost a great physician!

Hate to be so graphic here but you ladies are the only people I can ask here....today i noticed a clear discharge. I am wondering if things are clearing up or if this is part of the BV/yeast?
I am also on Vit-B complex, folic acid and acidophoulous vitamins...could this be the cause? It is the first time I have seen heavy clear discharge and I am even more thrown off now!! unsure.gif

Anyone here taking Lacto. Reurti and having success with it?? Is it worth a shot??

Have you tried the Boric Acid caps yet? Whenever I do those, put one in at night, the next morning I have a lot of clear discharge. But then it tapers off within the first hour or so. But I don't think it is anything bad.

I think the Reuteri is working really well for me. I'm even putting it in vaginally every night now in a cap (but just a tiny bit of it). Or maybe it is a combination of a few things I am doing. I would definitely try it, or take the Femdophilus. Hey, what the heck, we all had this stupid infection for so long, why not try it!

I think you should reschedule your appointment if you want any swabs or cultures. But keep in mind both are pretty inaccurate when it comes to differentiating yeast species. You might think about keeping the appointment & just go in to discuss what you've learned regarding boric acid, etc. Keep in mind you can have BV and yeast infections at the same time. Arm yourself with these facts from Elizabeth Stewart, M.D., a world-renown gynecologist:

1.)Most women expect to see a cottage-cheese-like discharge, but in fact vaginal discharge is not always present or is often minimal; even if it is profuse, it doesn't always have a telltale curdlike texture. This discharge may vary from watery to uniformly thick. Vaginal soreness, irritation, vulvar burning, pain with intercourse, and burning when the urine touches the vulva are common. Odor is not a usual complaint, though candida causes a yeasty smell for some women.

2.)A yeast infection is, in many cases, identified by performing an examination of the vaginal discharge under a microscope to detect the presence of yeast stems (hyphae). If hyphae are seen, the diagnosis is plain, and often no further testing needs to be done if the pH and whiff tests are normal. (If these tests are abnormal, there is probably a mixed infection, with trichomonas or bacterial vaginosis present as well.)

3.)Remember too that simply looking through the vaginal speculum at the vaginal discharge to diagnose yeast is outdated and inaccurate. A yeast culture is done on a special medium called Sabouraud's medium; this is different from a vaginal culture for bacteria. Routine bacterial cultures are seldom helpful because they grow a lot of bacteria that are normally found in the vagina: strep, staph, gardnerella, and E. coli.

4.)Microscopy is only about 40 percent accurate.

Once I discussed all the above with my dear-departed gyn (who had no way to do a Sabourand's medium culture), he said "Well, why not do an empirical test--try the boric acid for 14 days & see how things feel." And it worked great for me. But keep in mind what Jewels has said about sulpha/sulphur allergies. Boric acid is synthesized using a sulphur compound.
Hugs,
Maggie

Thanks for the info...so if my previous doc just looked under the scope and didnt culture anything- he may not even know what he is treating?? They told me he didnt culture the sample when I called for results after the second return of symptoms.
I plan to just talk to this new Dr tomorrow. Explain everything. How would i Know if i am allergic to Sulpher? I dont think I am....any usual meds with sulpher, etc??

Thanks again for ALL the info. I am waiting on the Boric Acid suppositories...
fbgirl987
For those of you on the yogurt...I found these Dannon yogurt drinks at the grocery store and thought I'd share the info. They are called DanActive and have the active cultures L.Bulgaricus and L. Casei Immunitas. You may know about them but for those who dont- though I'd pass it along.
They are easy to drink on the go and hopefully have an extra punch of active cultures in them!

The following are food sources of sulphur. If they don't bother you, and if Sulfa-type antibiotics e.g., Septra & Bactrim, don't bother you, you probably are safe. Also, most salad bars use sulphites as preservatives & if you haven't had a reaction after eating from a salad bar, you probably don't have an allergy to sulfur (I spell it sulphur--the chemist's way). You could try going about the use of boric acid slowly--just one at night & see how you react for 24 hours before using the next one.

Food Sources of Sulfur: Dried beans, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, dairy products, eggs, fish, garlic, horseradish, kale, legumes, meats, onions, soybeans, wheat germ, turnips, poultry. Garlic is a major source.

Best wishes!
Maggie

Lindsey, what have you been using?????? I must know LOL I'm desperate.
CanCan
Boric Acid (H3BO3) is made up of hydrogen atoms, oxygen, and boron. I just looked up boron and what it really is and it has beneficial properties like any other mineral; but like any other mineral, some people may be allergic to it. Or intolerant would be a more suitable word. For example, a lot of people may be fine with have a bit of boron in their body, but one out of a thousand (no idea what the number is) may have a reaction to it. Like me with sodium bromide. Most people are fine with it, it's used in hot tubs, so obviously it couldn't be bad for everyone. But I stepped into a hot tub one day, and had a reaction and got a rash all over my body which later turned into blisters, which I now have scarring from.

If anyone new is going to try boric acid, it will probably be fine, just use the amount you are supposed to, and don't over do it. And certainly don't use it if you are pregnant. When you try it, just use one capsule, and then wait at least 24 hours. A lot of reactions are delayed, you won't necessarily even react until much later. So be safe and just try it out and wait first to make sure. With my chemical intolerance for example, I got the rash more than 24 hours after the fact! The next day. It took me a while to figure out what gave it to me because it was a delayed reaction.

If anyone wants to read about boron, just google 'FDA boron' and it pulls up some interesting articles.

I got very lucky. I have just used the metrogel. It was my first time getting bv and I am hoping my last.

so frustrated. sad.gif I went to the new GYN today. He looked over my records and said he thinks it was yeast to begin with, being that it was caused by antibiotics. He said 'BV doesn't just appear out of the blue' and asked if I had any new sex partners. I said no and that I had BV with my last pregnancy a few years ago and i understand it sometimes doesnt clear up and/or comes back. His response was that it was common in pregnant women but it doesnt just appear. I said can antibiotics cause it. He said NO. They cause YEAST. Long story short- I explained I tried Diflucan three times, Monistat, and then my old Dr said it was BV and gave me clindesse which I tried twice over the past two months. He did the exam...which was only visual being that I had my period. He said he can see 'white discharge'. I asked if that could be the cream used a week ago and he said 'it looks like yeast'.
He sent me home with a script for Tarezol. To be used every other day for a month. I almost cried. With the buring and discomfort I dont see myself using that for a month sad.gif
I don't know what to do and am so discouraged. I feel like another dr is just randomly treating me with whatever they normally prescribe and not listening when i say THIS DIDNT WORK BEFORE.

PS I did ask about the boric acid suppositories and was advised against 'non-traditional treatments'...but helloo? Clearly their traditional methods arent working. mad.gif

He's a jerk! Of course antibiotics can cause both BV and yeast proliferation due to wiping out the good lactobacili! Did he ever pass Gynecology 101 in med school? I ran into some real winners like him, but luckily found two gyns (a male & a female) who say boric acid is more than fine to use for both types of infection. You could always just "go independent" & try the boric acid vaginally on your own. Are there other gynecology practices in your area?
Prayers,
Maggie

Not that I know of. I may have to 'go independent'. I am a little concerned because everything I read says recurrent or stubborn yeast infections AND/OR BV can be a sign of a repressed immune system. I had an HIV test 3 months ago...have been tested for all STDs....but I have to admit I am nervous. My father died of ALS and my mom has lupus and fibromaygia (sp) and I have thyroid problems in my family. I am thinking of self-treating with the boric acid and seeing a primary care for some bloodwork.

Thanks for all the advice Maggie. You are a blessing...as are all the strong women on this forum

OMG! My BV laughs at metrogel LOL I guess I'll have to just keep trying stuff. For some reason, (yuck) I'm bleeding again for the 3rd time since mid-november, so its kinda hard for me to use much of anything. I'll just have to suffer till it goes away. NO INSURANCE -- WOOOHOO. lol Anyway, I'm glad you're free of this monster! Good luck.

I got very lucky. I have just used the metrogel. It was my first time getting bv and I am hoping my last.

Have any of you ladies heard of trying tea tree oil soap? I read something about this online and thought I'd ask. I also read that Oregeno capsules are a good anti-fungal for yeast. Anyone try this method?

okay here is where i am. after dealing with this for a year and trying flagyl, tindamax, clindesse, etc., the last few months i've been doing the primodophilus, oregano, b6, folic to no avail. friday i started a new probiotic powder that i dump into yogurt. this is also nature's way but it has 100 billion live cultures of acid, bifidus, rhamnous, etc(14 strains).I noticed a change in my discharge yesterday. went from being pale yellow to white creamy.

went to the doc this morning, just from looking under the scope she said no yeast but the bv still looks like it is there. she is sending for a culture, should be back friday. so what she suggested is to do another round of oral flagyl and a 3 day cleocin suppos. when i finish the cleocin, start the boric acid suppos.

my problem in the past has actually been to get rid of it, not to have it go away with meds and then come back but to just get rid of it.

i just have discharge and itching, no smell.

what do you guys think....
i was thinking of finishing this course of probiotics which is 6 more days since i did see a change.

she also said to keep up the probs. while i was on her course of treatment.
and my last question is what do you think about having husbands treated (or if you are not married...partners). when i had this years ago one day it just up and went away w/o having my husband treated and actually i was not treating myself at the time.

thanks!

My symptoms are the same- discharge and pain and irritation but no smell. But my doctor(s) are divided. One says BV and the new one (this week) said yeast. I am going to try the boric acid next. Have you tried that yet?
I am wondering the same in regards to my husband- whether or not he should be treated. Although- I will say, my symptoms came back and we had NOT had intercourse. So...I am not sure we are truley passing it back and forth or if it just hasn't cleared up. sad.gif
Good luck to you hun.

How many of you ladies have tried making the boric acid capsules? I'm purchasing some powder and gel capsules right now. Any advice on using them?

I just wanted to share with you ladies a good website I found for purchasing meds online. It's http://www.easy.md/. I got my order in about 10 days and the website offers live customer support.

The same thing happened to me when I ate a Bio-K probiotic (it's like a watery sour yogurt - that has exta bacteria in it), and the container is little, so I ate the whole thing. But then I had a flare up with a lot of white creamy discharge, and I assumed it was the BV getting worse! But there wasn't a bad smell. And then it went away after a two days or so. I didn't know what was going on, so I called the company, and they told me as a first time user you should just take a tablespoon of it, and wait for your body to get used to it. Then everyday keep increasing how much you ingest, you can take half the container, or even eat the whole thing. The customer service woman also told me that when you first start taking the probiotic, because it is so strong, you will get a flare-up with more discharge - but that the discharge will only be bad for the first two or three days, then it will start getting better. That the discharge show you that the probiotic is working, and that the infection is being flushed out of your body. I don't know if this is true or not.. I'm just repeating what she told me. They sell these mini yogurts at Whole Foods, in the refridgerated probiotic section, so I will go buy some of them to try it again when I get a chance.

ok...I got the yeast arrest Boric Acid suppositories in the mail and now I am SCARED to use them! LOL! Go figure. I just finished my monthly 'friend' and haven't had the telltale signs if infection yet (knock on wood). But I feel the slight discomfort down there that seems to never go away.
Should I start using them or wait? Any advice on how to use them?

Here is a pretty decent site with tips on natural remedies from mid-wives.

Hi you'll, hope you're having a great holiday. I got my flagyl in the mail on monday, woohoo but ironically I'm skeptical about it. Has anyone who's ordered from horizondrugs.com gotten flagyl with a spanish label. The pills are yellow and round and all the words are in spanish as far as directions, etc and it came from central america. Someone on here recommended the site, did your flagyl (5oomg) pills look like that and were they in spanish. They took forever to come which I expected, but is this normal?? I've never ordered from there before. dry.gif dry.gif

Yes, I bought from the same website Horizon drugs. Mine came yellow, and in spanish. I was scared to death to try as well, but IT WORKED!!! No smell, what so ever.

So....the next time, I think I will try this new website someone just posted. I don't want to wait 3 months to get them!! haha

hi everyone,

i had my first experience w/ BV in august or september, a newbie partner came inside me (blah) and voila a strange garbage and ammonia smell that took me 3 weeks to determine was BV. 7 day course of flagyl and it was gone. sooo... a new partner and the condom breaks... this was this past saturday

so i've been sniffing in paranoia and yesterday was pretty sure i was beginning to smell a slight garbagy odor. i thought i'd pre-emptively strike, so i emptied a capsule of probiotics into my vag last night before bed. well, all day today i've been itchy as all hell and now the ammonia smell began.

what's going on with the itchiness???? i didn't think that was supposed to be part of this experience. did i give myself a yeast infection and BV at the same time? should i not have done that with the capsule?? i'm going to try just a single dose of 2g of flagyl and hope that works as well since i'm getting it from my friend and i used hers last time too.

what the hell is going on??????????

thanks!!!

I ordered mine from easy.md and they were round and yellow but on the pill it said 'flagyl' and the packaging was in English. They're only 400mg though. I hope they work as well as the 500mg. I took one orally and inserted one vaginally. My probiotic/garlic/b vitamin regimen abruptly stopped working a couple of weeks ago, so sadly I had to try the flagyl again. For those of you who've tried flagyl vaginally, how long did you wait to have sex again?

Wait atleast a couple of days. Otherwise, you will get a yeast infection. I used one on Tuesday night, then one on Wednesday night, and had sex on Friday night. Everything was fine. I then used another one on Sunday night...and haven't used one since, and again...NO GARBAGE SMELL HERE. Normal discharge too!!

Also...fyi on an easy whiff test. I use a Q-tip. Put it in there, move it around a bit, and then smell. It's painless... and easy to do... Sorry to be so graphic, but OH WELL!!! lol
