So I've read through what I could...difficult to devote a lot of time with a 6 month old in the house...and I have a couple questions I guess. It sounds like lori agrees that douching could actually make the condition worse by causing PID. In her blog she notes some suggestions in how to apply HP wihtout douching, but overall doesn't recommend using the treatment. If I only use this for a single 1 week treatment as suggested in the link/study on lori's blog, would it really be problematic? If this is the route that I would take, what is the best application if I choose not to douche?

I like the description of the tea tree oil - an Altoid for the vagina! LOL! That's so true! But after that initial tingle, the benefits seem to be gone...except that it might cover the odor if you have one (I luckily don't). I understand that you want to use this treatment for up to 6 weeks. If it's a treatment that will work for you,...when would you start to experience the benefits? As I posted before, it's only been 2 days and things seem to be worse. I hate to continue if it's a bust.

I'm still unsure which direction to pursue at this point. I don't want to continue with TTO if it's not effective. I'm concerned that allowing the infection to get worse without effective treatment could cause permanent damage.

Again, I don't want to take the Metronidazole because I am breastfeeding and it is a Class C drug. I don't want to expose my son to unnecessary antibiotics.

Last, (I think) Fem D is mentioned often. It appears to be an expensive version of lactobacillus acidolphilus. I currently take Udo's Choice Probiotics which includes LA along with other probiotics. Is FemD really super special or more beneficial for ridding BV?

there was a book that was like the go to book for OB's and Lactation consultants I cannot remember exactly the name but something like ....Dr Hale's Book of Medicines and the Nursing Mother I am pretty sure that is what it is called (sorry it has been about 8-9 years since I worked OB but I know that is what they still use) it is updated ever year and Lactation consultants ALWAYS have it handy it will tell you for sure what you can take while you are nursing if you do not want to invest in the book call local OB floor at hospital and ask to speak with a lactation consultant she will look up whatever drug or herb you are looking for. I am a nurse I have dozens of different drug books but I NEVER let a nursing mommy leave with a script until it is cleared with lactation. The other drug books are not as accurate or do not have enough info about lactation.

Hi all

I had read on here about taking Vit B6 if your BV was hormone related. Took it for 2 weeks with no results. Such a let down. Anyways, decided to give the Fem D a try. Been taking 2 tablets per day now for the last two weeks. My BV hasn't gone away but it's not as bad as it was before, specifically the discharge. Although great, I was hoping for the thing to go away completely. Anyone know how long after taking the fem D am I suppose to see my desired result, ie no more BV?

I ordered a container of 'yeast arrest'. It states on the container that it has 600mg boric acid. I felt more comfortable with the already made suppositories so that's why I got this. If I took this with the fem D, would that help or just make it worse? Someone had mentioned to try taking the Fem D with the oral flagyl but I'm pretty sure I'm allergic to it or something. I took it previously when my gyn prescribed it and the thing made me sick. I pretty much got all the side effect symptoms. The severe cramps (it was HELL), that wierd taste in your mouth, the dizziness, the nausea...etc

Lisa

I have taken the fem d for over a year it has helped but I have had to use other things as well, I also use the Yeast arrest and it has helped CONTROL the symptoms. However the only side effect is that for about 24 hours after using the yeast arrest I have this weird yellow brown mixed with oregeno discharge. The discharge is from the herbs in the yeast arrest so it isn't a bad thing that you see that but I was glad I had a heads up about it before I started using it. I have not found anything that actually cures the BV only helps control the symptoms. I use the yeast arrest everyday to everyother day and I have no smell and no discharge. I have also stayed on folic acid and a B complex even though that alone didn't help me, I went through several rounds of flagyl and clindamycin and within a week after taking them symptoms were back I started the fem d and antibiotics when the MD first told me I had BV I am tired of taking the antibiotics and that is when I found this site my MD had already told me about boric acid I now have everything to make the caps but am finishing up the yeast arrest first I am hoping the boric acid has the same effect without the herb discharge

Hi Lisabon, I felt the same way when I took the V-B6. When it helped, but didn't work all the way. And felt a bit disapointed when I started taking the Goldenseal, and it helped but not that fantastic. But seems like your BV is not as bad, which is a good thing! What I am doing now to help with my frustrated feelings about all this BV stuff is looking at it a different way. Because so far looks like there isn't a 100% magic bullet cure out there. But if you add up all the little things that we do to help get rid of the BV, it may eventually add up to 100%. (Hopefully.) For example, take the v-b6 may help our condition by 10%. Which seems like nothing. But then add folic acid to your diet. That may help a little, like only 10% too. But then add in the vitamin B Complex, drink more water, get some physical activity, get more rest, take Femdophilus, don't drink as much coffee, drink camomile tea at night... etc. etc. do whatever you need to do to relax and feel more healthy. For all of us it is a bit different. But it all eventually adds up to a much larger number.

Hi Kristen,

I would call first but I too had no luck and ordered the Fem D from Iherb and received it within three days. The Fem D should be in the refrigerated section. Hope this helps. wink.gif

i just got back from whole foods. no fem d!!! i found where it should be there were alot of other jarrow probiotics but no fem d. there was an empty spot that said temporarily out of stock but there was no label there saying what the product was. so i drove 20 minutes to get there and wasted 6 bucks on toll booths and no fem d. i'm so mad i can't seem to find the stuff anywhere. i found on the internet that the vitamin shoppe has it so i went there the other day since its right by my house and none there either i'm so frustrated. i dont know why i dont want to order it i just dont. and yes hell is already breaking loose with my vag after lasts nights little romp. sad.gif

kristen
ok i ordered it. i'm tired of running around town. i will let ya'll know what happens. i really have high hopes and i dont know what i will do next it this doesn't work. again i dont have really extreme symptoms just annoying stubborn ones. i think if it could help anyone i'm it.
JJ27
OMG I just got back from Whole Food since I'm down to one pill and it's $7.00 more!!!!!!! If anyone plans to buy the Fem D please go to iHerb!!!! It's worth the three day wait. I forgot who referred them but THANKS!!!

Not sure but I think I'm ok, not a 100% but I think I need more time. I would like to use something vaginally too any suggestions?

A lil BV humor I was thinking of yesterday when I discovered my beast had returned.

If we could create our own commercials every time we had a flare up, what would they be like??

Mine, I was thinking: Introducing Eau de BV - with an array of scents like - turpen~fish (a light TTO turpentine, with fish extract ), buttermilk, wild onion, poo-poolicious, garlic, boric blues and super funk! Get your sampler pack today. For a limited time only, we're also including flagyl samples at no cost. Dissatisfaction guaranteed!

Hey Jessica80! I don't think a week is enough time to see results. I say give it another week or two, then tell us if it helped or not. I know you want results now but these things take time hun. When I did the estroil, I didn't think it helped and I wanted to give up after the first week, but I stuck with it and I have not had BV in a loooooonnnnnngggggg time. Hope this helps! Oh, and welcome to the board.

jessica80... i did order some femanol back at the start of all this a year ago. i did see results and i saw them very quickly i was truly amazed at how fast it was working. i would say in like 4 days or maybe 5 my issues had gone away. i was feeling so great that i had found the answer. then i had sex and all the symptoms came back and they were really yucky. i kept taking the femanol twice a day, alot of times even three times thinking it would clear up, but it never did. i was never able the get the same results that i did righ at first. plus i dont remember how much i spent but i want to say it was like 70 with shipping. i really liked the idea of the femanol that is was probiotics and the theory of how it worked made perfect sense. i would also much rather take something orally and fix the problem from the inside than put stuff in places it doesn't belong. so back to the point all that i read about femanol before i took it sounded great. but it didn't work. there is another probiotic out there called fem dophilus all the ladies talk about it here. it is supossed to do the same thing except i think it works better. i have not used it yet my self but it is in fact in the mail. i think the main difference is the strains of bacteria in it are different. i think in famanol its like the same as yogurt or the same as should be in you intestines. fem d is specifically the strains found in the vag. aparenty that makes a big difference in the sucess rate. plus it is a ton cheaper. again i can't speak for fem d for my self just yet but if you like the idea of how femanol is supossed to work you should at least do some research on the fem d.

LOL! Konphusion that was funny!!!! I haven’t laughed about BV in a while. “Why miss, I shall take one bottle of the Eau de Poo-Poolicious and one in SuperFunk please.” *hands it over* “Well you know what, I feel spontaneous tonight. Go ahead and give me a flagyl sample too!” Hehe. Well you know what, Konphusion? We got some twin telepathy going on here because last weekend I so had a similar thought!! Except mine was a little different. You see I was cleaning out one of my son’s baby bottles that I found hidden under the bed and when I went to the kitchen sink to clean it out…………DAMN! Nasty smelling with curdles and junk. Anyway it finally hit me that DUH! This is the smell I very rarely get but can never put my finger on. So then I realized it was my actual seventh smell that I am able to define. So having seven actual definable smells made me think of the “Seven wonders of the world” only I would write it as “The seven wonder smells of a BV infected vagina” or something like that. There would be a display and you can come and discover the wonders of the BV smells by sniffing the seven samples. Hehehe. Anyway you just named seven actual smells yourself. Mine differ a bit but damn girl, we are so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! tongue.gif

I shall start out by welcoming the new girls: Shyedna, Shashasha, Jessica80. Hi girlies!!!!!! We must, we must, we must expand the BUST!! Heh, ok sorry. That was weird, I know. It just came to me though, actually originally I got it stuck in my head from a Denise Austin weight workout I did as a teenager. She actually meant to work out your pecs through weights to create the illusion of a bigger bust. Heh….................ok I see I lost you there. I got a weird sense of humor, this we all know.

So anyway ladies, I was at the store the other day and heck yeah! Guess what I found? Tea Tree oil SUPPOSITORIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dang I was like almost dancing I was ecstatic that I found these puppies! So anyway the downfall: EXPENSIVE! You only get a package of 6 suppositories for 10 bucks. Oh and that’s not the worst part, the instructions say to use them twice a day. So that’s like over $20 a week!! Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm, so yeah I’m not made of money here, not to mention I got a kid to support. I told myself I would only use them at night but today I caved and used one in the morning and damn it’s so cool. I think I might have just gotten myself hooked on this crap…..which still smells like shit. Not actual poop but you know what I mean. It’s amazingly strong but whatever, it is way better than any of the BV odors so I shouldn’t complain.

I might just consider Jewelscando’s method of buying 00 gel caps and filling them with tea tree oil straight from the bottle, diluting it of course. All I know is no more douching for me! Anyone out there who might be thinking about douching I plead with you to maybe think of another alternative. Lori mentioned it actually like ruins the balance of the vagina to make the BV worse and for me, well this DEFINITELY happened. I had a salt and vinegar slight odor going for the longest time but NOPE. I was still unhappy so I douched and now I’m stuck with weird whiffs periodically throughout the day. Oh how I wouldn’t mind my old faint salt and vinegar back!!!!!!!!!!!!! My vagina smelt like I stuck a salt shaker down there but that’s friggin better than whiffs of poop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome new sufferers of BV!

Anyways I've been checking here and there since my odor disappeared from taking Fem D. for a couple of days.

news update though... I had my period last week and it smelled yucky, but we all know period never smells great or anything.... BUT it ended two days ago and my u kno what started to smell like "THAT smell" (that we are all too familiar with) again and i freaked out. So I took a FemD like an hour ago and the smell is gone *phew*

Here is what I'm worried about...
1. Is it gonna flare up EVERY month when i get my period?
2. When Does Fem D expire? because I don't use it daily
3. I'm worried about buying it on iherb because it says it loses effectiveness EVEN if it comes packaged with ice or whatever. I mean if its that expensive I rather get it at its highest potency
4. ANNND if I don't take it everyday doesn't that mean each day its sittin in the refrigerator its getting weaker and weaker? because they are live strains of "good bacteria"...?

Anyways if anyone could help with those that would be great.,,. or even if you are taking FemD what you think?
Lastly...what is this tree oil suppository thingy you guys talk keep about? and does it work?

Hi ladies, I'm a newbie here and thank GOD I found this sight. I was on my way to a nervous breakdown Sunday night because the funk had come back. I guess I'm blessed because I only get it when my period comes on and once I take flaygl (sp) it's gone until the next month. I don't have to do anything in between my periods. Either way I'm sick of smelling like hot garbage. So anyTway, Sat. everthing was smelling good down there and then Sun. wham hot garbage. I told my husband I was sick of this and just sat on the bed with my head in my hands. Stayed out of work Monday and started looking on the net and found this sight. I was so excited. Went to my compound drug store to get the boric acid. He didn't want to sell it to me because he said it was dangerous, but he makes a boric acid compound which is his best selling compound, but you need a prescription. Anywho, I called my dr. the receptionest said that I couldn't be sure that I had BV and she didn't think the dr. would call in the prescription. I told her I know I have BV, I get it every month and that I come to their office every month for it and that all they wanted was my $25.00 copay and that I'm on my period, but if he wanted to take the chance of giving me an exam then that's fine with me. Needless, to say he called in my prescription, not for the boric acid like I asked, but for the flaygl(sp). Luckily, I order the Fem-D that everybody has been talking about from iherb yesterday and they shipped it yesterday also. So hopefully, I'll be good to go. I order the yeast arrest, tea tree suppositories and the P Reutueri(sp) stuff also just in case the Fem D didn't work I wanted to be prepared while I had the $$$. I've been talking about this site since I found it. My best friend said she's heard more about what's going on with my coochie then she would like to, but she was happy I found women just like me that can understand and help me.

Alright so I am new and I have read some of these posts.
For me I dind't get BV til I lost my virginity and it has been hard dealing with it since then. I tried antibiotics. Metronidazole the inserts and the pills and my it got to the point where my doctor was having me come in ever few weeks for a pap because they won't just give you meds. So I would take the meds and then get rid of it for a little bit but it would come right back. It hasn't been so bad here lately, but I think it's because I stopped using anything but regular water. I even get it sometimes after using my toy that is washed and cleaned. i used to get it from condoms and sometimes even after my boyfriend would wash his hands. Like I was allergic to my own 'wetness' or something. Eventually my doctor just ruled me off as a lost cause. I heard that folic acid is good. I actually bought it to help my hair growth. Then someone told me to use the green dove soap the cool moisture. She said that ever since thne she has no smell and no problems. But I'm terrified cuase I know usually soap makes it worse. I sleep naked, I don't imediately put underwear on after I shower I let it dry out. I dont' even know. I'm terrified of it really. I don't know what guys will think. It's devestating to be in college and tyring to meet men and have this. i ahvem't been with hardly anyone yet my friend has been wit 28 freakin people and she looks at me like I'm crazy. Making it up. I lost my virginity and with it came the BV, Chlamydia and HPV. Nice present right. Sometimes now I'll go a few days without the smell and sometimes I can smell it on my panties. it just seems to depend. I'm not necessarily complianing cause it's so much better than it used to be, but if I can eliminate it at all I would be thrilled! Please people answer me back! Thanks

If anybody is looking for a compound pharmasist in nc go to tomjonesdrug.com. when I went to pick up my perscription for flagyl he said that it wasn't going to do to much for me and that my bv will come back I told him I know, but my doc will not prescribe the BA suppositories. He said I need to find a new dr. he stressed again how the Boric Acid Supp. were his best selling compound for women with BA. His new website should be up next week.

You just made me cry girl! I feel you about the nervous breakdown stuff. I've been on my way to my next breakdown for a while now even though I do not have BV anymore. It's funny how one minute you can be on top of the world, then the next min. so low that you just don't give a crap anymore. It's great you can talk to your best friend about everything. She must be a doll! It's great you can tell her exactly what is going on and trust her enough to not tell the world about your coochie problems. Anyway, welcome to the board.

Welcome to the board! You got Chlamydia, HPV, and BV all at the same time, right after you lost your virginity? That sucks! You can't trust anyone, not even your husband, with your body. I go raw with my husband sometimes, but I make sure I get STD checkups also because you never know these days. Awwwww, I wish I could give you a hug. What devastating news. You decide to share something special with someone and you get way more than you bargain for. As far as your friend, I had one just like her, this girl slept with well over 35 men but has never had cooch problems that I know of, well not the bv problems that we've battled with. I can count the number of men I've had on one hand and I can't believe the problems my VAJAYJAY has given me. Anyway, try washing your panties with vinegar and wash them with hot water. As far as soap, try Dove. That should help!

thx neverending. Yep she's cool. she's had a BV once or twice, but not like mine. My husband is pretty good 2. so I'm very blessed and I know I am because I have a lot of support, but darn the funk is worst then anything. it makes you scared to walk by people, use a public bathroom. I just feel like people can smell me as I walk by. I'm always checking to see if I stink.

Hi--they are expensive, so when I was using them often, I inserted 1/2 of a suppository every other morning. On the alternate mornings, I used estrogen cream vaginally. As time went on, I inserted 1/4 of a suppository. Keep them in the refrigerator or they get "funny."

Take care & keep your good sense of humor!

It's so not fair! I too have a friend who has had many, many sexual partners...we roomed together in college for a year and one day she had sex with two different random guys, yet she has never had any vagina issues...not even a yeast infection. Me, I've only been with three guys and one of them is my husband. I had problems with BV before I lost my virginity. *sigh*

EDITED:

Hey Sprinkles babe! LOL Greetings to all my other BV challenged beauties. I went to the doc today, and found out I've got a really bad yeasty beast instead of BV or PID as I feared. thank you Lord its nothing worse. I was really shocked she said it was yeast too cuz it had alllllllll the signs of BV. How screwy is that???

Anyway, love you busties. Hope everyone has a great weekend. I'm going out of town to see my mom-in law. take it easy.
neptune
I used to read on here a lot last year when I had bv for about 10 months which would not clear up (for longer than a week), regardless of what I used. It even led to PID which I had to take doxycycline for until the skin on my face blistered and peeled off huh.gif

I'd been on tricyclic antidepressants for a few years but started to develop some side effects last year, so was swapped onto an SSRI. Anyway, a week later... no more fishy smell. It hasn't been back since I stopped taking the tricyclic anti Ds, and that was 5 months ago. Perhaps it's coincidence but I think I had some sort of allergy to the anti Ds which caused bv (as well as high blood pressure and other problems). My vaginal health has not been great since and I've had a lot of thrush, UTIs and pain during intercourse, but my vagina has had a difficult time so I'm hoping these other problems will resolve. Anyway, for me, these other issues are no real problem after experiencing the trauma of chronic bv. I'm still frightened the bv will come back, and I'm almost afraid to write this for fear of tempting fate!

I suppose I'm just urging to look at any meds you might be on, as in my experience bv can be caused by the most unlikely medication. Of course, this might not apply to anyone on here at all, but I just feel I had to share my story as bv is a nasty thing to go through. My heart sank when I came back on here and remembered so vividly the awful feeling of frustration and disappointment when the smell returns after treatment.

Good luck everyone!

so after three weeks of searching the city and finally breaking down and ordering, my fem d has arrived. skip the applause ladies... it was warm. i am so mad. i'm trying to decide if i should even take it. what do ya'll think what is your experience? it has an ice pack in it but was completely melted. i dont think i could have been warm for more than 24 hours it arrived on thursday but i could not get to it untill after work today it was in my apartment office. i went yesterday to pick it up but the office was closed when it should have been open. the ladies there said they closed an hour early by accident. what idiots. then today i called all day. im serious ALL DAY and got no answer i was going to ask them to put it in the fridge. they are so stupid up there i am glad i am moving in three weeks.. but that does not help my fem d any. sorry about my bad mood i had to get that out. back to the fem d. i think i am going to try it and see what happens. i would think it would be ok most probiotics and not totally bad even at room temp. well what do yall think?
sciongal
Hi all, I went to a new gyn yesterday, she was very nice, but when I asked her to test me for BV, she asked me if I was having any symptoms, I told her no, but I notice it after my period..so she gave me the "blood causes increase in pH "speech ... and gave me a flagly prescription with 11 refills!!!! She told me to just use it after my period...every month!! Gosh, I wont have any good bacteria if I do that...sigh, I did'nt even bother to talk with her about probiotics and folic acid.....just venting....take care.....
lisabon
Hey Ladies,

Here's an update on me. I've been taking the Fem D for 3 weeks now and it was helping. Discharge was not as bad as before but it still didn't go away. Anywhos, I got my period and the BV discharge came back with a vengence. It was never this bad before. Just my luck I guess.

I have a question however. My second bottle of Fem D... I had put it in the fridge in my garage and after 3 weeks, I went to get it since my other bottle ran out and to my surprise, the fridge in my garage was not even plugged in. DAMN!! Is that fem D bottle worthless now or can I still use it? I figure I can just put it in my fridge in the house and it'll be fine? Does the pills loose it's effectiveness if it hasn't been refrigerated?
kristen
lisabon... yes it does lose its potency... that is why it tells you to refridgerate. you made me laugh when i read that... i was asking the same question sbout that just like 2 posts before yours, but mine could have only been room tempature for like 24 hours. three weeks is a little on the long side. although i do think i would have some live bacteria still in it. as i said before alot of probiotics say that a good amount of bacteria live even when at room tempeture up to several monthes. but again that is also my question just how sensitive is fem d. is one day ok is three weeks ok. get back to us ladies.

Hello Everyone ,

I haven't visited this thread in quite some time..Hello to all the old BV Heads and Welcome to the Newbies! My BV is normally pretty consistent but a few weeks ago it definitely kicked into a higher gear after sex. I was like WHOA!! Then I remembered that a lot of ladies in here complained about their BV getting worse or returning after sex. But that had never been my experience until now. I took some Flagyl and did an HP wash. That helped and now the BV is back to "normal" (oxymoron, I know). I'm currently taking probiotics..Ultimate Flora (I tried the Fem D some months ago but they just didn't work as well as these). Anyway, I'm concerned because I think my BV is becoming more resistant and remedies that used to work GOOD are now just OK. This was the first time I'd taken Flagyl in years so I can't blame it on traditional antibiotics. But I was taking Oregano Oil for a few months.

My question is: Do you guys think that the "natural" antibiotics/antifungals (Tea Tree Oil, Oregano Oil, etc.) have the same affect as the pharmaceutical antibiotics in that they kill bacteria but continued use causes more problems (i.e. your body builds up a tolerance for it/bacteria becomes stronger & more resistant)? Is it OK to take these "natural" supplements for months or years at a time? I appreciate all feedback. Sorry if this has already been asked or discussed..it's been a while and I haven't read through all the posts yet.

KONPHUSION: I got your post from ther other forum.

Greetings bustie beauties. I've now been bleeding for a month!! non-stop heavy "spotting" is the best way to describe it. The doctor examined me Thursday and pretty much off the record told me I have PCOS with inuslin resistance- and that is probably what is causing the bleeding and acne. I feel like i'm goin thru puberty all over again with all these spots on my face. YUCK. Since I'm being treated for some another issue, she didnt want to start me on any meds for the bleeding yet. My options are Provera or Glucophage. Provera, she said could possibly "reboot" my hormones and my cycle and get me back on track, however, its not guaranteed. The Glucophage (which is used for diabetics also) would treat the insulin resistance, help me lose weight, correct my hormones, and sounds like this would be the best option -- HOWEVER it is not known how long i would have to take this mess.

Great! I dont know what to do. Has anyone had success with either of these treatments for PCOS??

I have to tell you that I had the same problems you are talking about and I got rid of this crap, acne and all, with estroil. NO SHIT! I wouldn't play.

i am soooooooooooooooooo pissed off right now. FemD was working perfectly fine until I got my period!!!

Now its a week after my period and it still smells...!!!!!!
Jessica80
So it seems to be that a lot of you ladies have used the fem d and it works sometimes and then it doesnt.
Has anyone had any consistent success. Im sure once the problem goes away some of the members stop writing to this blog. I probably would.... lol Id be so happy i would be busy having sex with my boyfriend.
Its so heartbreaking to read the blogs especially the one where there is instant success and then it comes back even worse.
My relationship has gone to shit because im too embarressed to have sex. I wouldnt even know how to explain this to him.... you know guys, odor down there is just gross to them and they just assume we dont shower and we just let it fester....
sorry for venting. this is so fucking hard!
stressed43
you're right. But its so common now that guys just think girls smell like that down there and that's why vaginas have such a bad rep. Right now the smell has definitely gone from Strong to very very mild..with Fem D. but I just want it to go away. If i stop taking birth control the smell will go away but there is no way I can avoid my damn period!

I've been using the FemD for about 3 months and have been healthy since! I finished MetroGel and immediately began the FemD! I think that's the way to do it! I feel great!

I also switched from a low dose pill to a regular dose pill as I immediately started having problems when I went on a low dose pill. However, I've only been on the new pill for about a week.

BTW, sometimes we're going to smell from our groin area! Just like an armpit, the skin rubs together and sweats!! At the end of the day, you're obviously not going to be 100% smelling like roses......just as long as your discharge is odorless, that is all that matters....The V Book evens says sometimes our discharge can have a slight smell.....but, there definitely is a distinct BV smell.
Jessica80
is anyone on mood stabilizers?
my sister was telling some interesting stuff and how BV is related to taking meds....

Question: When you take the yeast arrest, the discharge u have... is it just the herb discharge or is it both that and the regular BV discharge? Cause I'm having both,(by the way, both discharge together is sooooo disgusting) but I've only been taking the yeast arrest for 3 days now. Is the BV discharge suppose to go away the very first day you use it?

Hi everyone,

So, I just found out that I am pregnant. I have been BV free for almost 8 months but I know it is because I have been using metro gel twice a week for the past 6 months and then before that I did 21 days of BA and 10 days of Flagyl. I go back to the specialist next week but they did tell me to stop with the gel until then. Has anyone been pregnant with BV? I am just curious if it will come back more often because of the change in hormones. Any suggestions or info??

Wow CONGRATS! Were you using progesterone? As far as pregnancy with BV, the BV should be far less or even go away if your problems are hormonal (ex: not enough estrogen). Before I had my miscarriage, the BV went away completely, but after, the bv came back. So, that's how I figurerd out my problems were hormonal.

I believe it was the generic MetroGel. I just threw away the package and sis not get a refill. I know sometimes pregnancy can be the cure all. Hopefully this will be the case. When I was younger I was diagnosed with HPV and as soon as I had my first daughter it went away and I have not had it since.

hi girls

well, i haven't been reading here or posting....sadly not because i am BV free, but because I have been kinda busy. I have been taking fem doph and acidopholus for about 2 weeks now, and i don't notice any major difference. today my discharge was unusually watery. i can't describe the smell. it is really itchy down there, kind of swollen and sore. I hate this sad.gif. I am debating going back to my obgyn, but I know he's going to want to keep seeing me for "follow up" appts...at one point I was going there 2-3 times a month, plus medicines, evening out to $100-200 a month!! I haven't been there in about 10 months. do you think its worth it?

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy for you!!! Awwww now you brought me back to having those pregnancy happy vibes! smile.gif As for me, well I initially got BV during my pregnancy, the extra hormones brought it on I guess. However I did always have a hormonal imbalance as a teenager now that I look back (irregular periods, etc.) so the pregnancy just made it worse…………and of course the imbalance is why I can’t get rid of this shit. Hope your BV doesn’t come back, and of course congrats on these last 8 months that you’ve been BV free!!!!

I must welcome the Newbies: SmellslikeNirvana, Cuteness, Neptune. Hey ya’ll!!! And hi to Autumnbreeze too!!

Kristen: your posts are hilarious!

Maggie: Thanks for suggesting to half the TTO suppositories. This has definitely worked well for me, my pocketbook thanks you too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Update, update!! Ok actually it’s just the same old, same old. I smell like TTO. But hey ladies I aint complaining one bit. In fact I haven’t used them at all the last couple days (budget wise I had to give it up for a few days) and I don’t smell like anything. No whiffs. So it’s all good in the neighborhood if you know what I mean.

I am trying not to cuss out my vagina, she tends to retaliate. Actually I realize my friends don’t even know about the BV, I thought perhaps they MIGHT have but nope, damn they get outspoken a lot. I mean I do too but not if it would hurt someone. Anyway they would totally discuss it loudly as if we all really need to hear. At that point I think we can all agree we’d all go ape-shit crazy if someone makes fun of us for THIS. I can take crap about a lot of things but THIS I get sensitive about. Anyway you all are making me want to buy the FemD again and give it a second shot simply because everything is going so well, I want to make sure it stays that way.

Oh and Mg86, do you have insurance? That is a lot of money to be spending a month. This BV crap is expensive!!!!!!!! I don't want to tally up all the money I've spent due to BV, I'd probably cry. Well since it HAS been 10 months since you have gone to the doctor, well my opinion would be for you to go back especially considering you said you are sore.

Hi,
I would give the femdophilus a chance, and try to keep taking it. I know it is frustrating, and expensive, but it seems to be working for me, and a few others here. But you mention you are taking femdoph and acidophilus.. are you taking them at the same time together? Because I think it is maybe better to take them separately. Cycle them. For example, take the femdoph for two weeks, then for one week take the other. Because they may be canceling each other out. The probiotics are alive. They have different names because they are different strains of bacteria with different behaviours and different benefits. They are probably all good - but for different things. Think of them as different tribes of bacteria that sometimes work together well depending on the strains, or they can fight each other. And our intention of taking these probiotics is that you give them a chance to get down there into your body. Once in your body they take hold and hang on to the mucous membranes of your intestines and vaginal walls, thereby making it their territory. But if you are ingesting other types of acidophilus at the same time, they may not get a chance to take hold and plant their feet in. Kind of like 'first come, first serve'. If the others take hold of the real estate, the reuteri won't have a place to hang on to.

Stop taking the Flagyl if you are pregnant. I was just looking on the Flagyl website, well, the Pfizer company website, and they tell you to NOT use it for the first trimester of pregnancy.

Thanks for all of the corgrats!! I am very excited!
I haven taken the Flagyl since Sept of last year. It is the metrogel that I have been using. I know I have used it atleast once since I got pregnant (not knowing I was) but have stopped since. The funny thing is, I went to CVS and refilled the script for the gel and bought a pregnancy test at the same time smile.gif

Great that you aren't using it anymore, because both Flagyl and Metrogel are metronidazole. Just different trademarks for the same chemical. It's probably fine that you used it one time, but wait to see what your doctor says, I'm sure he will say to stop using it.
