American Apparel's Dov Charney getting sued for allegedly forcing sex on teen employee. This guy is such an incredible creep. And a WELL DOCUMENTED creep. Gawker has been up his ass forever, I even remember the Jane magazine article where he beat off in front of Claudine Ko. Ugh. I haven't bought anything AA in probably more than six years because dude is a creeper.

Way to victim blame an eleven year old girl, NYT!

Sign Change.org's petition to tell the NYT how you feel!

Jane Magazine!!!

Gang Rape Story Lacked Balance Y'think?! Because I wasn't so much concerned by the lack of balance as I was by the fucking victim blaming! Worrying about the boys & the town, but not the little girl because she wore makeup & wore clothes more in the style of a twenty-something. An eleven year old is still a BABY!

Well, all right! Let's not only fuck over expectant moms, but preemies as well! Long as big pharma gets their monies, fuck everybody else.

And don't even think about being a single mother.
auralpoison
Um, too little, too late much? A lot of damage has already been done.

A Houston Chronicle attorney has challenged the gag order because "This order is really gagging the public". Y'know what should be gagging the Cleveland, TX public? That an eleven year old girl was raped in their community by possibly eighteen assailants & it was captured on people's cellphones. Meaning they stood around & WATCHED as the atrocity took place. I just . . . I can't. It makes me so mad I could spit.
nbdx0645
Wow. How can you be an impartial jury member on an issue like that? And wouldn't anyone who was caught viewing said footage get charged with possession of child pornography?

Second guilty plea in Springfield, MO sex trafficking case.

"Night Stalker" rapist finally jailed after seventeen year reign of terror, police own up to blunders.

NY Times update says numerous attacks over a period of months

Cop runs mouth at uni speaking engagement, says women shouldn't dress like sluts if they don't want to be raped. He did apologize, but too little, too late.

Sluts took to the streets.

The comments below that video are, once again, heartless. 'Enjoy your sexual assault', wow. Apart from some positive comments, the whole point of the march went over ppl's head there. Ofcourse, disscussions on youtube tend to cater to the lowest common denominator, i know.

I am between a rock and a hard place. I feel like I am being discriminated against in my department. If I registered a complaint, I would basically have to leave the program. I could not transfer to a new supervisor and expect to still receive any funding from the department, since my current advisor is head of my area of research. One of the girls in the program left this fall, when I started, and complained to the Dean of arts that she had been subjected to discrimination based on both race and gender, and if I do the same (just gender, in my case) I think it would seriously affect the department, as it should. But that would be it for my academic career. I know my best course of action, in terms of a professional career, is to just suck it up, make allies elsewhere in the department, finish the program, and never look back, but that will be 3 more years of my life... and as a "feminist" I hate that I am not making a complaint of some kind...

I wish I had something useful to say to you, Angie_21, but academia is a a hell pit of discrimination & old boys network BS. I'm sorry that you are having to go through with that shit & having to make some hard choices that you shouldn't have to make. You're really damned if you do & damned if you don't. Nobody should ever have to sell their soul to feed their belly.

Lara Logan is finally up to stepping forward & talking about her ordeal in Egypt in the NYT & on 60 Minutes Sunday night.

Angie_21, AP is right about the damned if you do and damned if you don't. I encountered the old boys network, patriarchal crap at a training site. I spoke up and lost out (read: failed year). I do not have a good response or course of action for you. I hope you make the best choice for you. (((angie_21)))

Thanks guys, I've been aware of encountering various levels of sexism in my life (including times where I saw men discriminated against as well!) and my field has always been run by the old boy's club (like most fields! ha) but back home the men I've worked with really are somewhat blind to gender, and most of them have the same expectations for anyone as long as they are good to work with. Here in Texas, the attitude of entitlement by some of the male students and the higher expectations placed on the female students both drive me absolutely crazy, maybe because I've never encountered anything at this level before.

It doesn't help that I've been taking a class in theory about gender and ethnicity, and had to listen to male and female undergrads both spout insane ideas and stereotypes. I'm the only person who speaks up about some things. One of the girls in the class actually said that "all feminists do now is complain, because really in this day and age, do we even need feminism anymore?" Argh! I know she has young and hasn't seen what happens when you get out into the real world, but seriously? This is a campus where social "activism" typically involves anti-abortion pamphlets, or lobbying for the right to carry guns on campus, and students walk around in t-shirts that say "beat the hell out of obama." I've been trying really hard to ignore it all and remember that most of north america is not this bad, but then some days it starts to really get to me.

Oh, you are in TX. Yeah, TX is its own culture and country.

The Texas cheerleader that refused to cheer her rapist lost her appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court. They opted to decline, no reason was given why.

Hey i know how you feel sometimes i feel like we have lost our way as country
but then again its this that makes everything great just like humans we aren't
perfect without imperfections just like our country. A perfect world only exists in
theory just like a perfect person.

Stumbled upon this song on a '60's MOD compilation....it is the saddest, sickest thing I've heard and the Feminist inside me is cringing and boiling...it's from 1963, Called DumbHead Here's is the worst lyric ever written: "He hit me (and it felt like a kiss)"

For those that don't have Spotify...

I'm guessing you've never heard the Crystal's "He Hit Me & It Felt Like A Kiss". A little background.

If you like 60s girl groups, you might want to check out the Girl Group Sounds box from Rhino. It contains some really great songs from some really great groups! It's a musical snapshot of a interesting period in American music. Political it's not, but it covers bad girls, good girls, necking & fighting & everything in between!

Pretty agree. this website.

Why do guys always have to say, "ARE you on your period?" or "ARE YOU PMSING?". Ever since I could remember I've always heard that being said to myself and others. Yes, having a menstrual cycle is part of being a woman but that doesn't make it ok for them to say that! The biggest shocker was when my hubby said it to me just this week. I exclaimed then proceeded to hurl my diaper bag in his direction (barely missing him-I have horrible aim). I'm annoyed that I haven't seen any change since grade school. Sorry gals, I just had to let that out! biggrin.gif. Stay wonderful!
