Bookmarked and Thank Yoouuuuu! Miss Lady J.

His intro epressed a lot of my dissatisfaction w/SciFi although I like BSG more than he seems to.
femikneesm
Umm...has something happened to the BSG thread? I can't seem to find it.....
kittenb
I bumped it for you. It had fallen off the page.
femikneesm
thanks kittenb!

random: there was a www.io9.com article about how Google is making us stupid because no one reads anymore, and I couldn't even read the synopsis of the article without skimming. and then the blogger posted about how (s)he thought io9 readers were better than that. HA!- xpost in reader thread

but yeah, kitten, boo on the Dusku casting. why can't hollywood get some new blood instead of failed tv show run-off? Dollhouse sounds like it would be good, but i can't do it.

last episode of doctor who omg argh murfle

*explodes*
bunnyb
was tonight's not the penultimate with the second part next week (which I'll miss and have to wait weeks to see)?
mornington
yup. but still.
bunnyb
I know, it was incredibly good and such a cliffhanger.
girltrouble
was that the episode with that lady who was on ER? and the whole darkness/shadows thingy?
mornington
no, that was episode ten; the one I'm on about is episode 12. You've got "turn left" to go, which is brilliant. *sits on hands, dares not say more*

I knew I'd seen her somewhere before, I just couldn't place her!
girltrouble
really? oh goody, it gets better? i loved the end of that. i've had a crush on the er lady so it was good/funny to see her pop up some place else. i don't know how i feel about the cate tate. usually i warm to the doctors side kicks pretty quickly....but.....

where are you seeing these eps? i do the scifi channel dealy... i thought i was caught up...

i heard some rumblings about the doctor finally having a female incarnation, anybody heard anything about that?
mornington
the bbc in the uk is a few episodes ahead - I don't know if you can get bbc/iplayer in the states...

there's been rumours of a female doctor - my brother said joanna lumley (she did a turn as the doctor in a comic relief sketch) and I know Arabella Weir played a female Doctor on a radio play... but they're keeping it quiet. very, very quiet.
sixelacat
Okay, but, I mean, Tennant is supposed to be the Doctor through 2010, so....WTF?! I'm in complete and total denial....Russell T. Davies will make it work, somehow.....

*clicks heels three times*

Oh, and the BBC iplayer doesn't work in the states. Youtube has been awesome this season, though. Usually the episode is up by 6pm central time on Saturday.

I know, it's just... ok, spoileriffic in white: the doctor was in the middle of regenerating when the episode ended

here's some amusement (and why so many people disliked catherine tate at first): youtube goodness
sixelacat
Morn, I KNOW! blink.gif That's what makes it so crazy! And why I say Davies better have a whopping big rabbit stashed in his fez.....

oh, and I do love that clip! That was before either knew she would be his next companion, too.

gt, if you can to convince the BBC iplayer that you are in Britain, you have mad computer skills. I only have an idea in theory, I could never make it happen. But I'm also good with YouTube, or I'd be trying anyway!
girltrouble
sigh... this must be how you guys felt about new battlestar eps....

i have access to a site with some hackers, so i just ask them the question.

they said just go thru a british proxy server. easily enough to do just google british proxy server and....*pop*, but not worth the effort for me unless i'm at mr. t's house....so i'll give it a go next weekend.

How did I not click on this thread sooner and realize there was DW discussion going on? *melts into a pile of LL goo* wub.gif

Still haven't seen the newest episode, but the last so-and-so minutes + preview from the previous episode have me so pumped. Won't say more, except that I'm avoiding my cell phone like crazy lest my friends forget themselves and spoiler me via text. dry.gif

Has anyone ever read the book The Female Man by Joanna Russ? It's very interesting.

I just finished Battlefield Earth by HUbbard and it just kills me what total women haters the cannon of male sci-fi writers are. I don't want to give it away but the alien women are purchased and go into a coma if anyone asks them about math. Seriously? Hubbard can envision teleportation, numerous universes but somehow the role of women does not evolve, it actually goes backward.

so the Russ book is a totally different take on that. ( a future where there are No men! ) what a difference!

Missladyj, Herland by Charlotte Perkins Gilman is a 1915 book on a similar tip - some men wander into a utopian valley where no males have been born for thousands of years. It's an interesting read, with one blight; that the writer mentions that all of the women come from "good Aryan stock". Turn of the century feminism was far from perfect eh..fascinating still.

" it just kills me what total women haters the cannon of male sci-fi writers are."
I find the tone of the hatred really juvenile too. Do you ever get the feeling that you're reading the work of "40-year-old-virgins"? i mean it reads more like fear and inexperience.

It is such annoying fangirl behavior to judge something before seeing it, but I am wary of this:

Leapin' Lizards! V Gets Rebooted

Los Angeles (E! Online) - Hide the hamsters...the Visitors are baaack!

Hoping to do for V what the Sci Fi Channel did for Battlestar Galactica, ABC has given the go-ahead on a reboot of the hit 1980s franchise about alien lizards from another planet who take over Earth.

Scott Peters, the brain behind The 4400, will write and executive produce the update with Warner Bros. TV, per Variety. Warners shepherded the 1983 NBC TV movie, its sequel and a standalone series that ran during the 1984-85 season.

The new version will completely revamp the original, including changing the allusions from the Holocaust to 9/11.

Original V mastermind Kenneth Johnson, the ├╝ber-producer who also created The Bionic Woman, The Incredible Hulk and Alien Nation, had previously tried to get a new V off the ground, but he is not involved in the new incarnation.

"I was convinced that V should be a movie," he tells E! News. "I discovered that Warner controlled the TV rights. I, as the creator, own the motion picture rights to V. Virtually all the majors wanted to do it...and pay me a lot of money to write and produce a $200 million tentpole."

Back in the '80s, Johnson was shunted aside by NBC and Warners and had nothing to do with V: The Final Battle or the subsequent TV series, both of which failed to match the critical or commercial success of the original. Still smarting, he has been reluctant to hand over the reins to a movie version, preferring to do it himself.

I read the new Kenneth Johnson book. I was so excited about it I bought it on the first day. It was boring. A real dissapointment. Couldn't even bring myself to finish it and I only had about 75 pages to go. He took out the romance between Mike and Juliet and treated it as though it had never happened. Seriously, what is the point without those two? The fact that Johnson has nothing to do with this actually gives me hope.
missladyj
I just hope the scifi channel doesn't fuck it up like they did with Dune. While the series was more accurate than the David Lynch film, the acting sucked ass. I believe that Sara Jessica Parker was in the original V serioes which I remember watching. why do they have to redo everything and make it suck?

Like the day the earth stood still. Remaking that ? with Keanue Reeves? Really? Ruiners!!!
kittenb
I am also annoyed about the change of focus from fascisism and nazism to 9/11. I liked how it had Holocaust survivors as characters and heros. Although I do have a personal rule about no new science-fiction where bad alien=nazi.

Is this who you thought was Sarah Jessica Parker? The actress who played Robin was Blair Tifkin (yes, I am a geek.)
lunia666
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh I just found out there remaking Chidren of the Corn sad.gif
missladyj
lunia, say it isn't so! why must everything I love be remade and ruined! ( on a non sci fi note, Zach Effron is Ren in the Footlose remake Ugghhh!) Ruiners!
rubberdollz
Ok this is blasphemy in all sense!!! They are remaking Children of the Corn?!?!?! What the f*?!?!?! Most movie remakes end up being completely horrible and Children of the Corn... ugh... Footloose as well?!?! ARGH!!!!

I refused to watch that Dune remake, Sci Fi really fucks up a lot of movies whether they are remakes or not. Dune should have never been remade, that movie was totally amazing.

Is Zach Effron that punk-ass who is in those stupid musical movies??? God what a lame-oid.

Anybody here a Stargate Atlantis Fan ??

ohmy.gif I was sad to see Michael die last week. Am a big Connor Trinneer wink.gif ( hotness smile.gif) fan and I loved see him on the show. . On an even sadder not I just found out this will be the finale season of Atlantis. There will be at least one follow up movie with the poss of more in the future. When I found out SG1 was ending I was sad but the show had a good 10yr run. Atlantis is only on its 5th season mad.gif and still brings in good ratings (???).

With SG1 gone Atlantis and Battlestar on its way I out I wonder. What will I watch to fill my weekly Sci-Fi craving unsure.gif .

On to other things I found out not only are they remaking Children of the Corn but also Pet Cemtary ( ? I can never spell this work sad.gif ) Why I don't know how can you get any scarier then the little kid from the original
crazyoldcatlady
i finally broke down and read a synopsis/watched a trailer for whedon's dollhouse. and i'm actually intrigued. but has it actually even aired yet?
missladyj
remaking pet cemetary? what the fuck. that movie scared the shit out of me. Let's at least hope they leave the Ramones song alone. Jeeez
rubberdollz
Ok what... Pet Cemetary was totally creepy and now some jerk is remaking it. Good god! I will say that for the most part I am so NOT a Stephen King fan but his older stuff is pretty decent. That little boy was totally creepy, Gabe right? That part when he slices the old man's achilles tendon, oh poor Herman Munster went down!!!!

oh DUDE, that was the only thing i remembered from that movie b/c that looked so horrific. classic!
rubberdollz
You know it was on over Halloween and I caught it, haven't seen that movie in forever and the part when he is going for grandpa... I turned around. I just couldn't watch it! It's like the scene from Misery when she sledge hammers the guys ankles, I still to this day cannot watch that! It's so gross just watching his ankles limp over... ewww.. I'm grossing myself out even now!!!
missladyj
the crazy screaming sister in Pet Cemetary was the scariest thing for me. I had to close my eyes.

on another note. I have been watching Dr.Who and am crushing on David Tennant as the Dr.

Oh ick. I had totally forgotten about that!

Blushed
OO...The sister in Pet Semetary was scary! "RAAaaaaCChhEEeeLLl! I'm coming for you Rachel" That movie still remains to be on my top scary movies list.
rubberdollz
Ok yeah thanks for bringing up the sister as well, SICK!!! She was super scary, you could see all the bones in her back and there she is screaming... RRRAAACCCHHEEELLLLLLLLLLL, thanks Blushed for reminding me of that scream on top of MLJ bringing her up at all. EEEKKK!!!!

Has anyone see the AVP 2????
lunia666
I saw a preview for the new Star Trek I really wasn't that impressed. My Uncle is a big Trekkie I can all ready tell you he won't be happy but am willing to give it a shot. I saw during Fringe (which am so bored with) .
Ps. I miss Trublood already
sybarite
Has anyone been watching the second series of Terminator: the Sarah Conner chronicles? I seem to remember it mentioned here before. I'm liking it; once I got over how many people they were sending back from the future I started to appreciate the manifold plotlines and twisted character loyalties that have ensued. I don't even mind Brian Austin Green anymore.

ETA: Okay, I was posting about Sarah Conner Chronicles last winter/spring, along with some other folk. The second series is running now in the US, isn't it?
crazyoldcatlady
see, i thought the new star trek looked good. but i'm a TNG-er, so all things shatner never really appealed to me. if they want to start fresh, then i'm all for it. kitsch be thy name.

by the way, i also finally got around to watching the F-files movie. yeah, i said F. as in FAIL. as in EPIC FAIL.
just wow. and i'm a pretty forgiving fan, but i'm pretty sure chris carter could shat out something more palatable than that movie. it had no sense of linearity, clarity, coherence... SIGH. just awful. my inner pre-teen is crying for That Which Once Was.
kittenb
I was very excited to see the new Star Trek trailer. I think it is going to be really good.

I did like the X-Files movie but I just felt that it was an extended episode not really needing it's own movie.
missladyj
syb- I watched the first season of the Sara Conor Chronicles and really liked it. though Brian Austin Greene was great in it. I haven't had a chance to watch any of season 2. I would not be surprised it if is really good.

I am so down with the new star trek, being a next generation fan myself, I will still go to see it.

at Thanksgiving dinner I heard a horrible rumor that someone was going to remake Dune. For fucks sake. I w as so offended I pulled a muscle in my neck. hOw can anyone think that there will ever be another Feyd after Sting is beyond me. Aside from the Police, I consider Dune to be Sting's finest hour.

kittenb
To bodly go there! A history of Star Trek porn.

Yeah, not safe for work but you probably guessed that.
missladyj
kitten, thats just plain awesome.
kittenb
Since showing that to The Geek, "Spock Spooge!" has become quite the catchphrase.

(In case you didn't read the comments, the first one read, "Spock spooge is highly illogical." I laughed my ass off at that.)
sybarite
Saw the new BSB episode last night and it was AWESOME. Anyone else see it?

(I can move this to the Frack Me thread if preferred... but there's so much I want to say about this episode, spoiler protected of course...)
