I'm hanging out at Osborne Village in Winnipeg. I love going to the street fest. On Sunday I was going to go to the beach but it looks like rain now. Then I'll go watch some fireworks.
Arcadia
Happy Canada Day, fellow Canadian Busties!

I should be working today, actually (I work for Apple here in PEI, so you can imagine how stupid busy it is right now with the iPhone release!), but the Mister and I just called in for a personal day at work because a) we don't want to pay for a cab to go in, and cool.gif it's Canada Day! Seriously, I like Canada Day more than Christmas!

Damn working for an American company on my national holiday! Hopefully it doesn't rain tonight so we can see some fireworks!

Have a good day, everyone!
candycane_girl
Happy Canada Day everyone!

I don't really have any plans, just having a family barbecue and that's about it.
Arcadia
. . . . Or maybe not.

Work sent someone out to come get us.

No fireworks tonight. =(

Still, I hope everyone else has a good day.
culturehandy
Happy Canada Day fellow BUSTIes!

I've not got anything reallt special planned, the fireworks are at the Forks and of course almost everyone and their dog goes out and it being in down town Winnipeg makes traffic, well, a disaster. So, I think I'll just lay low and have a Canada Day Shhmoke!

Arcadia that blows.
Arcadia
I know.
I'm here right now.

Oh, it is so much of the suck.
doodlebug
HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!!

Could any of you lovely Canadian BUSTies tell me the name/site of some of the best Canadian baby stores please? The boy's sis is expecting in Vancouver and the boy wants to buy baby monitors for her.
doodlebug
I saw your Q. earlier, bunny, but I honestly can't think of anything myself. Online shopping in Canada is about 10 years behind the U.S. I would try sears.ca - at least they are reliable, decent quality, will ship gifts to the recipient, and are likely to have what you want.
missjoy
I have a question - are there any Ottawa busties on the list? If so - could you let me know or send me a message - I have a question for you.
dusty
Is it anything someone else could answer for you, Missjoy?
missjoy
Ah no - actually I think I got my answer in real life.

Sorry for being a thread killer!

Oooh ... I'm heading to Festival of Fear in Toronto in August! Anyone else going?!
dusty
Heh. No. I saw Dario Argento's Deep Red when I was 13 and it scarred me for life. But maybe Mr. Dusty would be interested...

My roommate found a job in another city and is moving out. *is sad*
I'm posting here just in case anyone knows someone who knows someone...

I'm looking for a new roommate for September (or immediately). It's a pretty cheap arrangement in downtown Toronto in a nice clean apt. and I am looking for another female roommate who's compatible. If you want to forward the info to someone please PM me and I can send you pictures and answer more questions.
candycane_girl
Damn, where are all the Canadian busties?
culturehandy
Candy, I, for one am stuck in a massive deep freeze, it's so fucking cold here! Bah.
pepper
ditto. it's a frikken ice slick here right now. treach.er.ous.
candycane_girl
CH, are you in Manitoba?

I'm in Toronto. I keep wishing for more snow because I love how the city looks when it's covered in snow but we've barely had anything.
culturehandy
Indeed, I am in Winnipeg. We are getting January weather right now! The snow really isn't that bad, it's just so freezing. It's horrible. I feel like I'm covered in flaking fish scales. My skin is horribly dry.
erinjane
I know what you mean CH. My hands are in pain they're so dry. Every time I leave the house I spend a half hour layering my clothes before I leave.

But...I still want to go tobogganing.
pepper
not really much snow here in southern O, just frost and ICE! walking little to school this morning was fun *not*. it's scary slippery still.
culturehandy
Erin, I still take the dog to the park every day, little bandit needs to go out all the time. And yesterday my mucho warm MEC pants were being washed so I went in jeans. And of course, she was feeling particularly playful and was playing with ever dog we encountered. Of all the days!!!!
glassk
Ch.... I am going to Manitoba for Christmas, I leave on Sunday, and everything I hear about makes me wish i was staying in vancouver. Argh!
culturehandy
It's really not that bad here. Just chilly, but it's cold just about everywhere.
erinjane
That's funny CH. Yesterday I went out for dinner at the forks but my warm jeans and long underwear were dirty so I put on a pair of jeans full of holes and stuffed my yoga pants under them. Surprisingly toasty.

I'll admit, I'll bitch about the cold for a while but I don't find it that bad, probably because I do always make sure to wear multiple layers. I'm actually planning to take up cross country skiing in a few weeks because I like a coupe of blocks from the winnipegs main park. I think Winnipeg is beautiful in winter, especially right around this time of year when all the lights are lit up downtown and you walk down the street with only your eyes peaking out between your hood and scarf and everyone is in a good mood anyways. I'm such a holiday sap.
culturehandy
Erin, I totally agree! I love driving to work in the morning, all the lights on, covered with snow, it's really beautiful.

I miss the exchange and broadway in the summer though, walking around the legislature.
dusty
I was thinking we have a fair bit of snow in TO, especially for this time of year.

I just ordered a down coat online.
candycane_girl
I guess it's been a decent amount, I just keep hoping for more! It looked so pretty a few weeks ago on American Thanksgiving when I woke up and it was snowing.
lananans
I'm in Ontario, east of Toronto, and we have a lot more snow than usual. Except today its freezing rain, so I look forward to going outside. *not*. However I'm studying for exams, so I don't really have to go outside if I choose to be a hermit, which given the circumstances I think I will.
pepper
it's pissing here too. not frozen but freezing cold and i have to go to the library and the post office. at least i can balance myself with the stroller, it really keeps me from falling down when it's slippery. how weird is that?
culturehandy
And we are expecting another 10 cm's of snow. At least when it's snow it's not so loody cold here!
northpole
I can't complain about the weather we're having in Calgary -- had about a week of cold weather (-15C for daytime highs), but still haven't had any real snow to speak of. There may be 1 or 2 cm on the ground, which is totally acceptable for this time of year.

We're almost back to normal temps this week. Daytime highs of -5C when normals are right around 0C smile.gif

Since I only have Christmas Day and Boxing Day off work this year, I'd prefer that it gets really cold and snowy, so maybe more people with time off will stay at home and shop online instead of clogging the roads during my morning and afternoon commute! ha ha ha
candycane_girl
lananans, I have exams too! I had one yesterday and I hated walking around in the weird icy/mushy rain.
culturehandy
It's going to be -9 here today! That is actually a nice day, given the crap-ass temperatures we've had lately.
dusty
Ha! I was walking across campus in the rain last night thinking "There goes Candycane's snow," and "You know, one of those women behind me talking about exams could be Candycane..."

But I'm not stalkerish. And I don't even know which university you're at.
candycane_girl
lol, dusty, suuuure you're not stalkerish.

Well, exams are finally over and the city is all pretty and covered in snow! I love it. I'm only here for a few more days and then going home for Christmas.

eta, I know it's an important issue but is anyone else sick of turning on CBC Newsworld and seeing the Schreiber case?
culturehandy
Candycane, I am so beyond dick of this! I don't fucking care, I know that Brian Mulroney is a dick, no amount of questioning by an ethics comittee is going to change that! I love newsworld, but every time I turn it to newsworld, it's this crap! They preempted The Hour for politics with Don Newman! !

I saw a really good documentary on ATPN just now, it was about the sex trade industry in Canada. And the makers were in Vancouver's Lower East side talking about survival sex trade workers and women who were escorts.

It's still cold here, and it snowed, at least the streets are clean and nice and icy! Perfect driving conditions I tells ya.
erinjane
I think I've seen that one, culture. Was it about three women? A madame, a high class escort, and the former street worker who brings food to people? I really liked that one, I think I used it to write a paper last year.

I just found out that the Canadian Diabetes Association is sending me to Vancouver in February. Woo!
candycane_girl
CH, I saw that one too. Well, not in its entirety but bits and pieces of it. It was on Newsworld last night and it was very interesting. They mentioned a bit at the end about Robert Pickton and it made me wonder how well known the trial is outside of Canada.
culturehandy
Erin that is the one!

Candy in okay land we were discussing the trial, and the us busties knew about it.
dusty
Then why isn't the SPOC getting anywhere with their campaign to decriminalize sex work? Arg.
culturehandy
Evidently the Conservative government is more concerned about gay marriage, the mulroney affair. The equality of women is evidently not important to this government. Oh wait, according to the Harper government, women have already achieved equality. I guess that's why so many aboriginal women go missing every year, and domestic violence, a thing of the fucking past.
dusty
Yes, because the Harper government is sooooo concerned about women's rights. But only Afghani women. Because that's who we are fighting a war for.

My cottage is a coupla miles downriver from Chalk River thankyouverymuch. I just got an email from my friend David who figures he is the closest resident downriver from the plant. But Harper says there won't be any accidents, so it must be true.
culturehandy
Beacuse the Conservativea just haven't done quite enough to fuck the environment five ways from Sunday. *cheers to a meltdown Mr. Harper*

hahah -9º is nothing right now it's -17º but it feels like -21º with the wind chill. Ohh the life in the North, thankfully I am going home tomorrow for Christmas "down south"! No more freezing, until I come back in January when it's like -40º, but there will be lots of snow for snowboarding!!!
sassysarahart
Ohh CH you're from Manitoba so I am sure your weather is a bit worse than mine in Northern Ontario! smile.gif
candycane_girl
So who else is currently experiencing the crazy storm that's covering Ontario and Quebec? I can't sleep because I just keep hearing howling winds and ice pellets hitting my window.
pepper
the nice thing about southern O is that we get hit half as hard as the rest of ontario. we've only had one fine sprinkling of snow so far this year before last night and even then, we got it later and way less than even toronto which is only 4 hours away. it was gentle too, i didn't hear a thing, just woke up to a perfect day for tobogganing!
culturehandy
It's been a nice few days here,no storm...yet, but it'll come sometime.

Sassy, it can get a little chilly here sometimes!
