Oooohhhh, I hate that G00gle.com is listed as a user under "board statistics."
zoya
CROSSPOSTED FROM "THE BUST LINE" WEBSITE THREAD:

I apoloigise if this has been asked already, but I didn't see it anywhere when I looked..

is there anywhere to set the board NOT to show when I've been logged in? I like being on my bulletin boards anonymously (just personal preference) and I notice that it shows at the bottom of the topics who's been on in the last 15 minutes, etc.

Also, is there any setting that will automatically log me out when I close my browser? I didn't see that anywhere either as I navagate around here. I'd love that, I forget all the time to log out and I don't really want to be perpetually logged in.

I love the new lounge so far though!

ETA: also not to excited about the Google thing..
punkerplus
I think when you first log in there is a box you can tick which says "Make me invisible" or something along those lines, which will stop people from seeing when you are/have been online.

Just checked, its actually "Log in as invisible". I'm pretty sure that'll do it.
zoya
thanks punkerplus.. I don't know how I was missing that..

probably because I always forget to log out and end up automatically back on when I open my browser.. smile.gif

Two questions: First, why does Google.com show as an "active user"at the bottom of the home lounge page, where it lists members that have been active in the last 15 minutes? Second, are the moderators actually moderating new thread start ups and the like? I see that the moderators are listed as: Lounge Lady and inv_board.

Thanks in advance.
indiechick
yay, thanks for the "ignore" function! i just added the first user who clearly deserved it. biggrin.gif
bustygirl
THANKS FOR THE 'IGNORE'!!!! I don't usually shout, but it's great that we can finally go anywhere we want now and not read anything from a troll.
bunnyb
Is there any way we can set a colour of font to our profile so that we don't have to do new post each time we want to post in colour and it applies to fast reply too?
indiechick
what happened to the idea that newbies can't start new threads? the boards are getting swamped with threads by people who have never posted before and whose topics could have easily fit elsewhere.
pollystyrene
Yeah, and they said there's a feature where you can send a form email about posting thread ideas in the Community Forum and the Newbie thread...anyone find that yet?

Do we know if threads can be deleted by the person who starts them?

Yeah, bunnyb, if I could save my settings for font/size/color, that would be nice.
doodlebug
polly, I don't think that the person named as the thread-starter IS necessarily the thread-starter, so maybe it wouldn't make sense to allow them to delete those threads?

It's just that I've noticed my name listed as the thread-starter on several that I KNOW I didn't start....I've actually started very few threads. I think the person listed as thread-starter must be whomever's post was the first left standing after a thread-cleanup...in some cases, anyway.

I realize that issue, doodle, I'm just talking about all these threads started by newbies, where we know who started them. There's a forum I go to (here) where when you start a thread, you have the option to delete it, like if there's no replies, it's in the wrong place, etc., but the option only appears to you when you're signed in- no one else sees it. I'm thinking that if this were possible on this board, we could email the person, explain that we like to keep threads to a minimum, could they please delete their thread and post in the appropriate thread, wherever that may be.

I know, it freaked me out when I saw that i allegedly started a bunch of threads, too....funny, I don't remember starting the "I'm gonna miss 'em" thread. huh.gif

P.S. I just watched Eddie Izzard's "Dress to Kill" tonight- brilliant!

the legend at the bottom is missing some items. what does the little what looks like a clipboard in dark or light pink symbol mean? and what's with the lips? it's a freaking chore to come in here and read on this new forum for me, i wish i liked it more but it just isn't very user friendly for me. all the features i could frankly do without, i loved the old layout and how once i'd looked at a thread it changed colour until someone new posted in it and how new posts bumped that thread to the top. i liked all that stuff way more than this. this is kinda frosty despite the pink. me sad.

love that ignore function though, holy mac.
pollystyrene
the lips I think are for quotes (I haven't seen them anywhere else) and the pink rectangle indicates that it's a thread you've posted in before. When it's light pink, it means there's nothing new since you last checked, when it's darker pink it means there is something new.

yeah, it's taking me a little while to get used to, but the benefits are far outweighing the problems.
pixiedust
I would really LOVE a way to set a prefernce so that all of your posts come out with the same formatting, color, font, ect without a lot of extra button pushing. Sometimes I post in purple, sometimes I hit post reply before thinking about it.
pixiedust
By the way, I noticed that when you send pm's, it does not save to the sent file.
pixiedust
New problem..the smilies are not the same from the work safe mode to the pink martini mode. I used a smilie with sunglasses when I started the feminism in pop culture thread while at work and now at home with teh pink martini it looks like a Frownie face.

Did you check the "save pm" box?

One thing I've noticed is the getlastpost and getnewpost and findpost functions aren't working right - they're going to where the post would be if things were arranged a-z instead of z-a.
mandolyn
- is there anyway to view new or last day's post in a tree view (with the beginnings of posts under each topic)?
and is it possible to make my log in default invisible?
maryjo
I've acclimatised a little to using the 'My Assistant' to view new posts, but I'd still rather have a tree-view format - it would make it so much easier to pick out the few threads that interest me at a glance.

Also, I tried to upload a picture from elsewhere online (my profile pic from another site) and it wouldn't work?
raisingirl
Yes, please, is there any way we can have a tree view? I can't stand not being able to navigate without that.
quantumspice
AFAIK, there is no tree view like discus had for invision. The closest mod I've found is this one ... which really isn't what you're lookin for.
raisingirl
Say it isn't so, Quantum! I mean, I see that there's the "view new posts" function that shows the threads where there have been new posts since your last login, but I miss not being able to see the first line of the new posts. I still have to click on everything to see what's inside, so to speak, and it's just annoying! I like being able to skim and pick. Grr. I need to get over it.
quantumspice
The closest mod that I know that's like that is a "preview post" thing that gets added to view new posts, search (return by topic), and the regular forum view - returns the first 255 characters of the most recent post.

BUUUUUUUUT, I didn't go looking at some of the other mod sites, just the one I hit up first (invisionize) because they have a huge variety and a great support community.

i'm sure it's been mentioned already somewhere and i missed it, but how do i orient the threads so that the newest posts are on the bottom? much as i loved the old lounge, not being able to read in a straight top-to-bottom line always drove me nuts. tell me there's a way to flip it on this new board.

seconded.
psychicfemme
Please delete my new topic Psychic Consultation that has the partial description in the title, but leave the other one please. Thanks! smile.gif
LoungeLady
Hey ladies: I've just put up a poll to determine whether we should maintain the status quo here and keep all new posts at the top of the threads, or change things so that we show new posts at the end of threads. There are some benefits to changing things, but I know change can be hard to take. So please vote here:
VOTE!. The Poll will be open for a week. Thanks!
pepper
yo, could we have a test run for a day or so to see whatcha mean and try it out before we decide LL? that would be cool.
turbojenn
ouch...if you have to click to the last page of a thread to read what's new, that is going to be seriously annoying, and add so many more clicks to my life....I hope it doesn't win the vote. But that's just me...I'm pretty obsessive about minimizing the number of clicks in my life...damned web designer instincts in me, I guess.
pixiedust
Is there any way it could be made so that each user chooses the way they would like it to be? I see pros and cons to both. I persoanlly like having new posts on top, but in heated discusssions it would be nice for people just joining the thread to know what it is about before offering thier two cents...of course, that is also assuming that people would read the previous posts before just skipping to the end.
LoungeLady
Nope, there's no way for users to choose which way the posts display, unfortunately.

You would not have to navigate to the last page. Instead, you would just click the little thingy that looks like this: IPB Image , and it would take you directly to the latest posts. You would read them going down, just like you do on most other boards you visit.

Unfortunately I'm not able to set it up so that you could test it out the other way for just a day.

turbojenn
Thanks for the scoop, LL - thanks for taking such good care of us!
pixiedust
By the way, I noticed several misplaced threads go poof today! Thanks!
catsoup
If we do new posts on bottom, will it be like Television Without Pity, where it automatically takes me to the first new post since I last visited? I love love love that feature - it's so nice to just click on the thread and *ta-da!* it takes me right to where I last was.

Right now, the newpost function isn't working sad.gif

I would hate to see the Lounge change to have latest posts at the end. One of the reasons I stay here is because of the way it's set up - I don't participate in any other online forums. Maybe I'm just too old to change my habits, but I find it really uncomfortable the other way 'round, and it's the main reason I don't hang out in other forums. Anyway, yep, I voted. Thanks for asking!
doodlebug
Hey all...I shouldn't be up this late, but I am....curses...anyway, I just discovered you CAN change that "advanced member" (or whatever) stuff that goes under your user name when you post!

Go into your "My Controls," then "Edit Profile Information" and then just type in something where it says "Custom Member Title."

Thus I have regained my crown as "Queen of Everything."

(Apologies for cross-posting.)
pepper
doodle, i am following your late night instructions here but i ain't seein' "custom member title" anywheres. where should it be, o queen of everything?
thanx!

That would be lurvely, and it's how most others are configured. This forum is awfully difficult to browse, IMO, but I can totally understand how the regulars have gotten used to it. smile.gif

SAME! Please keep it as is with the new posts on the top. (I voted.)

I am intrigued by the idea of switching things around, but I must admit that I voted to keep things as they are simply because we've already been through a hell of a lot of change recently. I just don't feel comfortable with the Lounge going through yet another big switcheroo any time soon. Afterall, there are alwayalwaysalways glitches and delays any time work is done on the Lounge. There are still a lot of people who are trying to sort out problems that arose with the recent change-over. I'm afraid that doing anything else will just expose further problems ... possibly resulting in additional dingo-like attacks.

This does not mean that I'm not open to change, though. In fact, I'd really like to see examples of other websites that use the proposed format just to play with it and see how it feels. But I don't think the community is ready for it yet. I know I, for one, would be more open to such a change in a few months or so.
pixiedust
I voted to keep it the same because I know how many people mentioned that when we were suggesting the changes, and I'm used to it. I hate the other sites where I have to wade through posts over and over again. I am intrigued by the idea that it would take you to your first unread post in that thread. Could we not have that feature with the current set up? I do think it is hard to go backwards through the thread to find your place sometimes.

invision is a fairly robust forum - i've been running it for going on 3 years now, and we've only had one dingo-like attack, and then it was because we ran out of hard drive space (but, we were able to recover all of the data, so the only thing that *really* happened is that it was down for nearly two weeks while our IT peeps fixed it ... and fixed it ... and fixed it ... and finally realized what was happening and fixed it fo real)

anyway. if you go to http://www.bpal.org, register, validate, click "mark all posts as read" ... and then close the browser... and visit in oh an hour, if you visit randomness or bpal chatter or the swap forums, you'll likely see topics with IPB Image (if you use the default skin) to the left of the topic (like how we have IPB Image) ... and click it, and it'll bring it
punkerplus
Umm has anyone else had the problem of some of their punctuation keys switching around? I just posted in Busting Trolls (and its in here too!) and my " comes out as a @ and vice versa (so 2 + tab is an @ and ' + tab is a @).

And its not my keyboard because I just checked. Its a bit weird.

And others are doing it too! I'm confused.
bunnyb
punkerplus, I think that's where those symbols are located on US keyboards (and macs)? weird tho but a few weird things have been happening; I had a dreadful time trying to lounge yesterday as kept crashing.
mornington
did someone call for a know-it-all? tongue.gif

I think it might be to do with the US keyboards having tab+2 = @. and tab+' = " That's what it is on my keyboard - I'm on a mac, so I assume it's that.
roseviolet
I'm having a problem & I'm wondering if other people are having it, too. When I preview my posts, they appear to be aligned to the center. But when I post it, it appear on the thread as being aligned to the left. Are other people having this problem? Could it be fixed?
mornington
and... does anyone know what the default font is. it keeps switching and I don't like it. unsure.gif

how odd, rose. mine does that. I'm too lazy to preview usually, so I hadn't noticed before.
punkerplus
I thought that might be it, but I couldn't understand how the board could override my keyboard - if that makes sense!

I am also too lazy to preview and really should start but its probably just a glitch left over from the very first day when all of our posts were centred.
bunnyb
I LOVE that personal messages are now like instant messages and come straight here to profile rather than to email address. Thanks!
