Hey, does anyone watch Battlestar Galactica on the sci-fi channel? I don't have cable TV so I just caught it recently on DVD from the library. It's the best show ever on TV! Female presidents (Mary McDonnell!??!!) - chick fighter pilots & COs - cute boys and SO MUCH MORE :: )~ Plus they always use cool phrases such as "Oh my GODS (yes, plural) cuz ya see, ALL GODS are recognized...I could go on, but in summation, this show is too good to be true & I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming after seeing it smile.gif~ (Went & BOUGHT every single season made so far)....yaay!!
girltrouble
hey jan, i love battlestar, i agree it's one of the best shows on right now, but....

part of the reason there is so little reply is that we have a certain protocol at the lounge for starting threads. i figure you're a newbee and don't know. so here is the deal: in the lounge there are no moderators. because of that, we have to do things in a certain way to make sure that things don't turn into a mess. so just starting a thread is frowned upon. if you want to start a thread, first post something in the community forum thread nominating your idea for a new thread. this will tell you if there are enough people who share your interest. but first you have to get the community ok.

part of the problem with random threads being started by anyone, is that usually it's done by trolls.

and in the lounge trolls are to be ignored. unfortunatelya i think your thread title may lead some to believe you are one of the occasional pornbots that post.

anyways, i encourage you to try again by post something in the community thread. as a big fan of battlestar i'd love to see a thread devoted to it.

best wishes,
gt

Well...even though it didn't start under preferred circumstances, I'd love to see the Battlestar thread pick up, because I love it. It's such a great show -- good acting, good action scenes and so smart and political.

I wasn't nuts about last week's episode; I thought the acting was good (I really like Chief Tyrol) and the discussion of worker's rights and working conditions was interesting, plus I've enjoyed the thread this year about class differences within the fleet. That being said, I had a really hard time buying that anyone would take anything Gaius Balthar says seriously. It's been proven several times on that show that he'll do anything to save his ass, and I think that's been shown to the fleet (what with his own election, his own former elite status, the fact that he was crooked and inefficient even before he sold out to the Cylons...). I don't buy Cally, who was on the death list that Balthar signed, reading his book and being inspired by it, or anyone else for that matter. It was a huge logical leap to ask us to take, and it colored the whole episode for me.

I also am starting to sympathize with the Cally-haters, and it's not the actress as much as it seems her character, every damn weeks, makes the stupidest possible decisions. She's being written like Kim Bauer from 24.

I do like anything involving Adama and Roslin, as I'm pretty sure they secretly got married on New Caprica, and that'll be an upcoming flashback.
Bethiepie
Yay! A BSG thread! I love this show so very very much. Although the last 3 episodes have sort of worn me thin. Best part of last weeks episode was hands-down Baltar talking about his home world Aerolon.
girltrouble
look's like we've got a horse race then, kids!

sidecar, i agree with you on the cally thing, and i agree with someone who said last week's ep was resolved too quickly. the best eps are the ones that are woven into the show's mythology, not the 'one-offs' my ep with the best idea ruined by it being a one off was the aids ep. the one offs bug me in any serialized show because it seems lazy. and this show was anything but for a lot of it's life.

and i agree with the adama/rosilyn thing, but i think she's pretty hot to begin with.

i'm glad the starbuck love triangle thing is over too.
ginger_kitty
Right on, I love this show. Though I haven't caught much of the season, it's on a bad night for me. sad.gif

Never got in to Cally, either.

Luv the pres. She is strong and hot!

I also like Starbuck and Apollo. But the love triangle drama bored me a bit. I was like come on I want to see some more action.

I also really like the Tom Jane(I think that's his name?) character, I wish we could see more of him on the show.

Sad Lucy Lawless is out of the picture for awhile.
sidecar
I love Starbuck way too much for a television character, and I truly hope that they have something planned down the road that makes tonight's episode worthwhile. Her destiny has to be greater than just dying. Hell, Kat got a better sendoff. And she sucked.
kittenb
Oh this thread hurts me. It hurts me! This is the one show that I really miss from cancelling my cable. And I peaked in here and read a spoiler that has me all in a tizzy wacko.gif . Why did I do that to myself?

Does anyone know when BSG Season 3 will be on DVD?

No fracking way that's the end of her story.

My fear is... she's the secret Cylon.

Any takers?
moxiegirl
oh, i'm a taker on that one. This whole leobon thing...sure, sure. do we think she's really, really dead?? C'mon?

VideoETA just says "we anticipate it will be released in the near future" but you can sign up to be notified when it is.

Starbuck died?!!! Please tell me it's not so. I don't get to watch this week's epi until Wednesday...
sidecar
I shoulda posted in white. Sorry everyone.

Moxie: I'm a taker on that too. Especially from the line about the space between life and death AND the fact that he's not really Leoben...
kittenb
Thanks vesica!

Sidecar - don't worry about posting in white for me. My fault for looking in a thread on a show that I haven't seen yet. I think the general rule here is it should only be whited out if the show hasn't aired in the States yet.

I try to resist spoilers, but I am weak..... sad.gif
girltrouble
oh i don't think there's any doubt that she's a tincan. it was pro'lly me but i was bored silly by last night's ep. starbuck gone? yah, good riddance. i loved her at first too, but now? eh. or maybe, i hate to say it, i'm getting bored with the series. the last couple of eps arent about cylons or them being chased, but just colonist stuff. i miss the action elements. maybe the next ep will change that.

i miss lucy lawless too. she was great!
moxiegirl
So, because I AM just this big a dork. Here, from a spoiler page.

Take from it what you will.
girltrouble

the next ep looks like they are going to get back on track, and as much as i thought the ep tonight was alright, the last few have felt like filler. they've been promising that someone will find earth and a few other things, but i hope not. battlestar 1980 was, to my mind the worst show to ever hit the televison. the preview looked good, but the season finale is always just enough filler to keep you hanging on....:/
EllaMinnowPea
I have no doubt Starbuck's a Cylon - though in interviews, the actors have denied it.

Any other guesses? I'm still suspicious of Tory, but she might just be on the brink of a breakdown. Anders, maybe. And wouldn't it be great if they brought back an old character like Billy?

I know this season's been up and down, but their season finales are usually right on. Do you remember the end of last season!? Ohhh. I'm getting nostalgic and embarrassingly geeky.
girltrouble

it seems the next season is going to be an odd one: after the season finale, there is going to be a 2 hour special that deals with what happened in the gap between seasons on new caprica, then next year's season is going from the new standard 16 eps, to the traditonal 22 eps, but it will be the last season. all this according to g4tv.
moxiegirl
Eh, while a last season sucks, I think the most of "good" story they had was 2 seasons at 16...and then, still alot of filler. 22+ epis sounds just about right, from a storytelling perspective. Plus, I'm betting those 2 mid-season shows will be 2 hours each. Ron Moore's cool like that.
girltrouble
meant to take bets before the show started, but what do you think, are the people who are hearing static the cylon 6? if you count starbuck that's 2 women (the pres' asst. is the other), 3 men and one mystery person to be determined...
Bethiepie
There are only 5 "unknown" Cylon, so there is one we don't know about. I at first thought the Prez, then Starbuck...I think Starbuck seems more likely. I think next time Chief sees Brother Cavil it's going to be funny..."So, not a Cylon, am I?"
girltrouble
well, i don't think my theory holds water, they can't be cylons, because chief's daughter would be a cylon/human hybred, and we see how much they've gone on about the other baby like that........
ginger_kitty
I have missed a lot of this season, but I watched the season finale figuring it would go out with a bang....well I was a bit unimpressed.

Glad to hear I am not the only one that was confused about the identies of the final 5. The president or Starbuck? Hmmmm.....

I don't really like the chief or Sal as a cylon.

No new shows till 08, what is up with that?
girltrouble

yeah, it was kind of a let down. and the court scene was a big stinky dooley. the cross examination of what's his head was supposed to be about him hearing his dad say whatever, but he doesn't come close to answering the question, and the opposing council didn't object to that whole speech. personally, i think that whole story line should have been axed. it was a dead end. the cylon aids story was much stronger, more interesting.

as for the no episodes till next year, that's standard operating on cable networks. they do it all the time on f/x. they build an audience with battlestar then when the season ends they premere a new show, which i think will be painkiller jane when it's season ends, another new show (the lost room, possibly?), when that show's season is up, another new one or battlestar will be ready. that way if they do their job, they have that day strong all year round. at fx the rotation goes like this: the sheild, rescue me, nip/tuck, and finally, dirt. although dirt did so poorly they will more than likely cancel it. but there's less network risk. it's always tues @10. that's why they are adding the riches to work on their wed. nights. the upside is there are no repeats to wait thru, and hopefully great shows year round. the down side is shorter seasons/fewer episodes (16 instead of 22) and the next season seems like it'll take forevah. (the sheild starts in a week or two, after about the same year long wait). but scifi keeps making these crappy movies, they may not know what a good show was if it bit 'em in the ass. next the'll pro'lly have the new manimal series.... blink.gif
EllaMinnowPea
GirlTrouble, you're probably right. It's a pain, anyway.

I'm glad that the Chief was a Cylon - it makes sense, then, that Sharon ended up procreating with Helo.

The moment after the trial was nice. Lee looks great in that suit, and I'm glad it was clear that those two were only defending Baltar for justice' sake (assuming the lawyer is not a Cylon).

The end was sort of corny, wasn't it? We knew who it was as soon as she was detected, and then that final shot was just over-the-top. The episode wasn't awful, all in all, but I hope next season brings back the kick it lost after the end of season two.
vesicapisces
Other than the mysterious "radio" sounds only they can hear, what evidence do we have that Saul, Tyrol, Sam, and Tory are actually Cylons? I think that's too easy an answer.

I sort of liked Lee shoving the hypocrisy of prosecuting Baltar in their faces, altho' I agree, how was that appropriate testimony? The only way they could get that particular speech into the record, I suppose? Except, as the prosecutor said, all of that could have been said during closing statements. I dunno, it was fairly forced, even if I thought the content was good. sad.gif blink.gif
girltrouble
well, they aren't cylons because cheif's kid would be a half cylon, and they haven't made too much of it. and the song they kept hearing was "all along the watchtower, a hendrix song. hopefully the new season will be all about earth since it is the last season. i just hope it doesn't end up like battlestar 1980. wow that was a bad series....

...since it is the last season...

WHA? wubbawubbawubba... That's the first I've heard of the series ending. I assume it's a planned demise - we wrap up the story and it all gets resolved, fade to black, etc.?
girltrouble
well, here is an artcle with the show's creator. it should clarify quite a bit:

definately worth the read. .

Wow. Geez. Um.... yeah.

Being on the other side of the atlantic, I *just* saw the season finale (DL'd). I so didn't see the four new cylons coming although the mister saw at least two (Tigh and the chief). (But then, I'm one of those who didn't see the end of Angel Heart either... clearly I subscribe to a surfeit of suspension of disbelief.)

I have to say, I seriously warmed to Tigh post-New Caprica. He was a bastard, but more consistent and better motivated than previously. Sam I really really didn't see coming, although his connection with Tory (again if I had known) is a clear-ass clue.

I love the chief, always have. Personally I thoght Callie was great until she married Tyrell and became a mom in quick succession. Tory makes sense as she's close to power, i.e. Roslyn.

I liked the moment where someone(Sam?) said: 'And that's it. Like a switch was thrown' Goosebumps.

Starbuck I think will be resurrected as something else, some mystical hero. Which I'm afraid of; I don't want it to get too ridiculously mystical. It's clearly a fine line with this lot.

I had so many thoughts on BSG I couldn't post here for a few weeks because I was afraid of spoliers! With this willpower I surely should be able to quit smoking...

I didn't think that "cover" sounded anything like All Along the Watchtower. I actually really liked it... they just should have left it instrumental.

I read an interview with the show's music director, who said that this (the song not sounding like Dylan or Hendrix doing the song) was done because it's not necessarily supposed to be a song from Earth. His theory was that it's a universal song--the Colonies have their version, we have ours, just illustrating another link between the two from way back, not showing that those Four have any connection/link up to Earth.

Am I babbling? Yeah, prolly. Am I excited to be back in the Lounge and discussing BSG? Hella yes. tongue.gif

Hello BSG fans, I have a question. I saw on Netflix that BSG:Razor will be available on DVD before the most recent season. Do In need to the see the recent season to follow Razor or it is a prequel? Thanks for the help.
girltrouble
it takes place before, durring and after the last season. the new season doesn't start til next year, but i don't think there's any harm in watching it, i don't think it gives too much away, but it's been so long, i can't say for sure....
vesicapisces
Razor nicely answered a couple of questions I had - mostly, what happened with the crew of the Pegasus? One would have thought there would have been a whole lot more agita with them, considering that the admiral was murdered, the next CO was also murdered, and the third guy was a schlemiel who got himself killed (sort of nobly) - Razor deals with that transition. Also looked at a couple of stories that were told by Pegasus crew members about the time between the attack on the colonies and when they found Galactica again - like the story about how Kane killed a guy for refusing a direct order. V. much worth it, filled in some blank spaces for me and didn't disrupt the ongoing storylines.
kittenb
Thanks for the advice. I think I am going to wait to see all of season 3 before I get it.

Hello NBC! Release the damn DVDs!
sybarite
I agree that Razor is worth watching, not just for filling in the blanks but for a few other reasons which I won't go into here.

I was initially dubious, but 10 minutes in I was sold. It's well paced and nicely suspenseful in its own right. Makes me impatient for the new series already!
lananans
I just started watching BSG, and I'm only on season 2 episode 11. I fully plan on finishing all of it before the holidays. I'm trying not to scroll down so I don't read any accidental spoilers, because I'm so far behind!

I never liked sci-fi, but there's just something about this show that pulled me in, and I am soooo addicted.
girltrouble
bumpity!

tonite's season opener was freaking amazin!

i don't know how i felt about the new religious element.... but other than that-- great!

i love that they leave you knowing so much more, but don't have any answers!, and the cylon death stare--- freaking creepy! i can't wait to see how that ends up in future episodes....
lunia666
Wow the opening was great can't blink.gif wait to see the rest of this season although am a little spollied after watching it on DVD ( no adds) can't wait until next week
sybarite
Just saw season opener and generally I thought it was awesome, although I too thought it was a little heavy on the religious stuff. I love that it picked up exactly where it left off last season and brought us right back in again. I increasingly think Saul actually rules and that Lee is an irritating waste of space. I am curious about how they explain Starbuck's trip though...
girltrouble
ok, yesturdays episdoe was so super fucked up...
i'm glad there was less religious bs, and the whole civil war angle is freaking fantastic. i like this episode much better than the last two-- it was what i loved about the 2nd year of battlestar-- the parallels between what is going on on the show and what is going on in our country. but the end.... that end was soooooooo fucked.

i have the biggest crush on tory/rekha sharma, but wow....
lananans
I cannot believe that they killed Cally. That was very very upsetting. Maybe she'll come back and be a cylon? I wish... the last episode was not one to watch when you were already extremely depressed... but with that said I really liked it. I'm just not sure where it's all going...
lunia666
Wow I can't believe the new ep .So sad they killed Cally
lananans
okay, so I don't know how to do that blacked out thing... i assumed it was okay to mention what happened because it already aired? If not maybe someone could explain to me how to do the black line thing? sorry..
girltrouble
you can find most info about codes here

for spoilers it's super easy, you just put the word 'spoiler' and '/spoiler' in [square brackets].

just that easy!
lananans
thanks girltrouble! i fixed my old post:P

I read an article today that says that the makers of BSG have been dropping hints all along about who the 5th cylon is... I believe it because when I was catching up on the first 3 seasons, my boyfriend who already knew about the 4 noticed all the hints while i didn't... i just want to know who it is!!!!!
kittenb

Well I have finally finished season three and now have to wait for season four to start downloading. Am outraged that Australian airing is so, so far behind the US. I keep torturing myself by reading the spoilers in this thread....have. to. stop.
