Read on for our chat with Liza Fiorentinos, creator of Luludi Living Frames...

Tell us about yourself!

I am a Greek-American who was raised primarily in Africa and New York. Then, after living in Paris for 15 years and being in the "corporate world" I left it all behind and moved back to New York. Two and a half years ago, I launched Luludi Living Frames. We create living art for spectacular gifts and home and office decor. Luludi means "flower" in Greek and is a fun and whimsical name.

Our store is located in Astoria, New York and has been open for just a few months. We offer fresh and fun terrarium classes almost weekly and encourage all ages to join in. We offer "girlfriend nights" with a glass of wine and date nights, also with wine!

How did you get started?

Having spent 15 years in Paris, I was inspired by the living walls that are created there and decided I wanted to bring nature indoors, artistically, and on a smaller scale. People spend way too many hours indoors and need a bit of green around them.

What's inspiring you right now?

Art inspires me, music inspires me. Right now I am working on a series of funky terrariums that really stand out: succulents and air plants in wreaths or in picture frames. It's a new twist on a very old concept.

Any advice for those starting out in the handmade industry?

You have to be willing to live and breathe your business seven days a week, 24 hours a day! If you have a great idea, run with it, but be open enough to switch roads if you see something that inspires you, but was not part of your original plan. Stay true to your core business, but be fluid and not rigid.

What are you most looking forward to at the BUST Magazine Craftacular and Food Fair this year?

I'm really looking forward to meeting and sharing ideas with the other crafters! While we create terrariums, even knitters inspire ideas in me!

At the BUST Magazine Holiday Craftacular this upcoming weekend, you'll have a chance to make your own funky terrarium with Liza! Grab a couple friends and come create a lovely mini living world decorated with crystals, figures, or moss. Learn how to layer a terrarium with colorful sand and soil and use air plants or succulents. Perfect for building a little green into your life--and your class fee includes a festive box and bag for gifting!

Check out Liza's work, as well as the amazing wares of over 250 handmade, vintage, and fancy-food vendors, at the BUST Magazine Holiday Craftacular & Food Fair.

It's all taking place on Saturday, December 14th and Sunday, December 15th at the Metropolitan Pavilion (125 West 18th Street, at 6th Ave.) in N.Y.C. The Craftacular will run from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM both days.
